The Temple of Medinat Habu is one of the largest memorial Temples in Egypt. It measures 320m in length (east to west) and about 200m in width (north to south). It was built to commemorate Ramses III, after his death, by orders of the King himself. A huge mud brick enclosure wall surrounds the Temple. Medinet Habu is the name commonly given to the Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III, an important New Kingdom period structure in the location of the same name on the West Bank of Luxor in Egypt. Aside from its intrinsic size and architectural and artistic importance, the temple is probably best known as the source of inscribed reliefs depicting the advent and defeat of the Sea Peoples during the reign of Ramesses III. The main temple is the great memorial temple of Ramesses III, the best preserved of all mortuary temples of Thebes. It is called the Mansion of Millions of Years of User-Maat-Re Meriamun, the throne name of Ramesses III, "United with Eternity in the Possession of Amun in Western Thebes." It contains more than 75,350 sq ft of decorated surfaces across its walls. Although this was my third visit to Luxor through the years, I have somehow missed this temple before. Greater the surprise to find such an impressive site.

As said before - Those of you that think that such a timeless photo opportunity will occur on each step in a place like a Valley of Kings in Egypt ( I thought so) might be surprised as Egypt is a land of "baksheesh" and money is asked for everything. When I took photos of bakery in Oman or Yemen I left the shop with piece of free warm bread in my hand, when I tried to do same in Luxor, I was very shortly asked for "baksheesh" in very ordinary old bakery in the city. When I surprisingly just said "shokran" - thank you, I was not allowed to take more photos. The same story goes with this shot and many more. On a second thought, I should have asked for "baksheesh" too when those Egyptian guys have been taking photos with me to show off that they have new blond, European girlfriend.

Jeddah (also spelled Jiddah, Jidda, or Jedda; Arabic: جدّة Ǧiddah) is a Saudi Arabian city located on the coast of the Red Sea and is the major urban center of western Saudi Arabia. It is the largest city in Makkah Province, and the second largest city in Saudi Arabia after the capital city, Riyadh. The population of the city currently stands at over 3.4 million. It is considered the commercial capital of Saudi Arabia and the wealthiest city in the Middle East and western Asia. Jeddah is the principal gateway to Mecca, Islam's holiest city, which able-bodied Muslims are required to visit at least once in a lifetime.

Floating Mosque in Jeddah is one of the most loved and visited sightseeing spots in the city of Jeddah. Jeddah is a classic mix of ancient with modern which is finely evident in its majestic architectures and buildings. The location of Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea and the beaches subsequently formed makes it a favored travel destination of the tourists.

Floating Mosque in Jeddah is one of the sacred sites in the city. The mosque is placed just next to the Red Sea which gives the impression that the mosque is floating in water. It is henceforth named the Floating Mosque. Due to the shimmering white color of the mosque it is also referred as the White Mosque. The mosque is located close to the center of Jeddah. The interior of the mosque is beautifully decorated. The mosque has all the modern facilities like the latest technology based sound systems. For the winter season the mosque also has the provision of hot shower. The Floating Mosque at Jeddah is a landmark of the city and is frequented by numerous tourists round the year from across the world. Floating Mosque in Jeddah bears testimony of the religion of Islam in Saudi Arabia. It is one of the marvelous sacred destinations in Jeddah. The dunes of Erg Chebbi are a magical destination, full of magnetism and mystery with easy access for all travelers. If you want to visit Morocco, this jewel of the Sahara is a place not to be missed. The Dunes of Erg Chebbi are a unique natural spectacle, where giant sand dunes stand up in the middle of the dark volcanic cobalt plateaus of Sahara Desert.

The legend of Erg Chebbi / Merzouga tells that the largest sand dunes in Morocco appeared as a punishment from God to wealthy families who refused to accept a poor woman with her son at a party while they were washing hands with milk and playing with balls of couscous. These people were then buried by sand storms and strong winds that formed large dunes with the highest measure of around 160 meters above sea level.

Morocco and especially Sahara desert with its very dark skies is perfect for seeing and also capturing the night sky with the glorious Milky Way. The sky in the desert is wonderfully dark with minimum light pollution, which gives a great sight, which you can also see in the :

Happy Face Down Tuesday everyone :)

come join the fun www.flickr.com/groups/fdt/

a great group full of whack jobs :)

this was a strange one for me today we went on a random jump in the car day trip today and ended up on a rainy Portmarmock beach just outside of Dublin.

when we got there the reflections of the sky was fantastic but rain chased us off the beach. so we hid in the car and waited for the rain to pass

so i jumped out of the car and ran down the beach to take my FDT shot before the rain started again just in time a catch a pretty sweet rainbow :)

and just as i was lining up my camera my phone rang and it was a girl from the Gas board calling about setting up a time for a service for my boiler. i knew the rainbow was only going to be there for a few seconds so i took my FDT shot while on the phone to the gas board, i kept it to my ear on the other side so as to hide it from the camera

and they say men cant multi-task :)

Last week I was visiting a few medieval towns in the Girona province. Initially Monells was not part of my route but I’m glad to take the time to visit it. I took this photo in the narrow “Carrer dels Arcs” (Arches Street) which is one of the most beautiful places that I found in village. However, you most see the rest of the small town by yourself; it will not disappoint you.

The streets and squares of Monells are an example of the architectonic evolution throw different ages. You can find some parts of the roman walls and ancient defense towers; The “Plaça de l’Oli” (Olive Square) and in the “Carrer dels Arcs” are part of the gothic architecture. And finally, during the XVII and XVIII centuries a lot of houses were built on the top of the city walls remains defining the current streets layout. In many houses you will find date inscription stones referring to that period.

I love voyaging forth into nature to contemplate poetry, physics, the golden ratio, and the Tao te Ching! What's your favorite epic poetry reflecting epic landscapes? I recently finished a book titled Epic Poetry for Epic Landscape Photographers:

www.facebook.com/Epic-Poetry-for-Epic-Landscape-Photograp...

Did you know that John Muir, Thoreau, and Emerson all loved epic poetry and poets including Shakespeare, Milton, Homer, and Robert Burns?

I recently finished my fourth book on Light Time Dimension Theory, much of which was inspired by an autumn trip to Zion!

www.facebook.com/lightimedimensiontheory/

Via its simple principle of a fourth expanding dimension, LTD Theory provides a unifying, foundational *physical* model underlying relativity, quantum mechanics, time and all its arrows and asymmetries, and the second law of thermodynamics. The detailed diagrams demonstrate that the great mysteries of quantum mechanical nonlocality, entanglement, and probability naturally arise from the very same principle that fosters relativity alongside light's constant velocity, the equivalence of mass and energy, and time dilation.

I recently visited this beautiful lake, named after the nearby town of Banyoles. It’s located in the Province of Girona, and it’s the largest natural lake in Catalonia. I must say that I have a great time there. I started walking early in the morning with a thin blanket of storm clouds in the sky but at some point the sun started to shine.
