a great group full of whack jobs :)
this was a strange one for me today we went on a random jump in the car day trip today and ended up on a rainy Portmarmock beach just outside of Dublin.
when we got there the reflections of the sky was fantastic but rain chased us off the beach. so we hid in the car and waited for the rain to pass
so i jumped out of the car and ran down the beach to take my FDT shot before the rain started again just in time a catch a pretty sweet rainbow :)
and just as i was lining up my camera my phone rang and it was a girl from the Gas board calling about setting up a time for a service for my boiler. i knew the rainbow was only going to be there for a few seconds so i took my FDT shot while on the phone to the gas board, i kept it to my ear on the other side so as to hide it from the camera
and they say men cant multi-task :)
the blue and white is just everywhere you go on these islands :-) Beautiful!!

This dramatic image was captured on my visit to Iceland March 2017 during an absolutely stunning sunset. It seems that the vast majority of images that I see of this plane are taken up close but I really wanted to place the plane within the harsh natural landscape and to show you what most images do not, the majestic snow capped mountains that serve as the beautiful backdrop.
I walked for what seemed like hours to reach this black volcanic sand dune which afforded me the elevated position I was wanting. All I had to do was to endure the fierce wind and try to protect the tripod and camera while the low light slowed the shutter speed to 1/15 sec at ISO800. I was shooting on the 50mp Canon 5Ds which does not handle low light well with increased levels of noise present due to cramming so many mega pixels on a full frame sensor. So I did not want to shoot using a higher ISO than 800 so I was somewhat restricted.
Still I am very happy with how it all turned out. The 4km walk back in the dark during a snow storm that kicked in just as everybody left and the sky turned black was bloody harsh but the images captured were more than worth it.
The story surrounding the plane crash is that on Saturday, November 24, 1973, a Douglas Super DC-3 of the United States Navy is on its way to an unknown location in Iceland, when it was forced to crash land on Sólheimasandur beach near the famous town of Vik.
The official reason for the crash is still unknown. Some say the aircraft experienced severe icing over the black beach, while other sources report the pilot just switched over to the wrong fuel tank making the aircraft run out of fuel. The crew and passengers thankfully all survived the crash.

Jökulsárlón (lit. "Glacier Lagoon") is the largest glacier lagoon or lake in Iceland. Situated in south eastern Iceland, at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier branching from the Vatnajökull, between Skaftafell National Park and Höfn, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the Icelandic glaciers.
I guess every and each landscape photographer is dreaming of capturing Jökulsárlón - Glacier Lagoon at least once in his/hers life and of course we all dream about perfect conditions... and I call myself very lucky to have experienced several stunning sunsets over this amazing place !!
Timelapse movies had become my new way of capturing my travels besides regular photography.

I've been there at New Year's Eve and a few days before too and found out that the celestial pole is right above the mountains form that POV there, so I spontaneously used the first day of this year for another long exposure session. Luckily we got clear blue starry skies for a few hours in the evening.

Unedited, taken in natural light on a busy roadside while people honked their horns impatiently at each other in the background. It is hard to believe we walk past such beauty every day and - most times - fail to see it.
