Finally finished! It's far from perfect, but it's the biggest sewing project I've taken on so far and I'm very happy with it. :)

Intention fraying from a pair of Luscious brand jeans preserved in a symmetric pattern. Collar is stitched down. Inside seams finished with a selection of vintage trim scraps and skull/crossbone ribbon.
Pattern: Bed Jacket from Knitting Lingerie Style
Designer: Joan McGowan-Michael
Yarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes from stash (long time in the stash, actually)
12 skeins in color Tan
Needles: Size 10 Addi Turbo and Size G crochet hook
Started: June 2007
Finished: June 12, 2008
Recipient: Me
Mods: I left off the chain stitch embroidery because (1) I was lazy and (2) didn't think it really needed it. I knit the rest to the book. Overall, I like it, but alas, into storage it goes until the Fall b/c it is too dang hot for wool right now in Jersey. As I also said before, read the directions first, especially if you hate finishing. There is a lot of finishing work on this one, but I think it is elegant and well-worth the effort.

I thought it would be nice to get this jacket pictured against the backdrop of Dripsey Castle and lake. The O'Shaughnessy family, who still own the castle, ran a busy woollen mill downstream from here for generations, using the Dripsey river for power. Sadly the mill has closed now, but it's still fondly remembered.
I have been looking for a picture taken on different occasions while wandering the forest but they are lost on some CDs scattered around my house. Anyway I took the camera and took myself some pictures with me and my leather jacket. Hope you like them!

I have worked on this jacket in the spring of 2008, and it took me a little while to finish it. There's is also a cable that goes onto the color, but I think I like it also without it. As of the yarn, it was not the best choice, since the jacket is rather heavy now and it stretched more than I anticipated. Still need to add buttons.

bring on the cold weather!!
For those of you who've never heard of Kenora,
it's a small city on the Ontario/Manitoba border.
This is a camping jacket, and to me this just
screams autumn, and cooler weather. These are kind
of popular and in shops now. This is a vintage coat.
It's lined with quilted padding, and so will be quite warm.
The newer ones are made of fleece. This one's the more
traditional melton wool, and it's also lined. Much,
much warmer.
The funny thing is that in the last 20 or so years,
people wouldn't be caught dead in one of these,
as they're seen as louche, and more than a little 'hoser'.
This was a lucky score at Exile, in Kensington Market, Toronto.
My friend Lynn owns the shop. So, not only did I get a great coat,
but I got a great price, too.
Take off, eh!
