Wind storm of Feb 2010. Like the old days. Sleeping in front of the fire. He was the warmest of us all.
I am very behind. Will try to catch up with all you during the next week. Hope you and yours are safely tucked in tonight. Big hugs to all.
Since yesterday's unicorn didn't *quite* make the cut for my Little Thing post, I thought I'd show my unicorn love and my pride with this shot for today. Awesome indeed! :)

I got my shots from yesterday's Zombie Walk edited and decided this was actually a nice little thing photo to post up. Obviously everyone is happy to be able to share the fun of the day together.
I always find it wonderful to see families out and dressed up for this event. :)

Nothing like being cooped up sick for a few days to get my creative, artsy side going. I *finally* finished this kimono bathrobe that I started about a year ago. I was sort of using my old robe as a pattern but changed up the sleeves and made them longer and it threw off the body of the robe. I put it aside for months.
Then yesterday I took it out, removed the sleeves, readjusted the shoulders and then reattached the sleeves. Today I cut the rest of the pieces, did the trim along the front and hem then made the belt tie. Hooray - fini! (about danged time!)

like crazy street performers. I am not talking about buskers or street artists. No, these are people who have an entire repertoire going on with costumes and props. I wonder how they ended up doing this. Do they make a living from it? What do they do when they are not doing this? Are they unemployed actors? All these and many other questions are going through my head as I watch them perform.

So I'm out running a couple of errands and looking for birthday socks (aren't these great??), when I get a call from the Security desk of my building telling me to come pick up cake. What??
I get home to find a special delivery of these fabulous goodies from my friend Michael! He's unfortunately away on business (in Brazil so don't feel too bad for him) so he sent some sweetness my way for my day. Hooray!
Thank you my dear friend! ox

I had the most awesome "it's a small world" moment today on the TOPW walk. I haven't been out on a walk since September and made sure to get my booty out today.
As I was walking about with my friends, we passed a woman sitting on the grass with two daughters. My friend Alan said as we passed "They're having a picnic." I looked at the woman again and did a double take and stopped in my tracks. Alan looked at me and I said, "I think I know her." I looked back again and hesitated to approach her until she spoke and I recognized her voice.
I walked back a few steps and said "Wendy??" She looked at me and replied "Yes?" "It's Georgette."
We shared an "oh wow!" moment. This was a close friend of mine in high school. We lost track of each other after our first or second year of university. Then in my early 30's, I sent a letter to her parents' address in hopes of touching base. I got a call a few weeks later from her. We reconnected again for a few years and then somehow lost track of each other again.
It's been over 10 years since we last saw each other. The last time I saw her, her first daughter was only one or two years old.
And then as we chatted, I found out that she's now working at the same campus as I am!! We're hoping to meet up for lunch/coffee soon and catch up. Hopefully we manage to keep in touch.
The only reason they were there was because the one daughter was feeling car sick and they had to pull over for a breather before heading out for a long trip to visit with relatives. They actually were just getting ready to take a deep breath, pack up and be on their way again. If I walked down that side street 10 minutes later, they would have probably already been gone.
I told my grrl Laurie the story and said I had to find a good shot to go with this fabulous chance meeting. She pointed out this sign to me. How perfect!

And back in Toronto and off to Chinatown for some dinner after a 4+ hour train ride home. I had some yummy BBQ duck wonton noodle soup - Mmmm!
I also had a brief chat with the one of the two older Chinese men at my table. He and the other gentleman were speaking back and forth in Cantonese. I was listening but of course not understanding. I guess the one man realized I was curious about what they were saying. He started to tell me how they were talking about how easy it can to get a bit lazy and not practice your own mother tongue and forget things that should be important to your background. He also said they were talking about how important it is to keep learning, right to the very end, even just little things.
Very wise men indeed.

I went to the Photographic Fair with my friend Michael and met up there with another vintage camera friend too who helped me pick out this beauty. The bellows are in good shape and it takes 120 film.
It's all loaded up now - hoping for a nice sunny day soon to take it out for a test run!
Thanks for the fun day guys! :)

I was in Kensington Market picking up groceries and sat down to take a phone call. The young woman here waas playing her guitar wonderfully and singing with much emotion and enthusiasm. She was really good! And obviously good enough to get someone's feet a-moving!
Wonderful entertainment and people right in my neighbourhood! :)

What better way to start the new year than to hang out with fellow photographers and watching crazy enthusiastic people jumping in the lake for a good cause! :)

I met up with my friend Jan for a birthday coffee and a walk about the neighbourhood. Boy, was it chilly with the wind but the company was great! :)
Thank you for coming out to play today! :)
Hugs!

I had found this half shot roll of film at the last camera show I went to with a friend. The container had a piece of tape on it indicating that only the first 18 shots had been taken ... in Mexico. Who knows how long ago and by who but I can't wait to find out! I shot the other half at yesterday's photo walk ... now we wait a week to get it back!

Finally did a wee bit of holiday decorating today .... just having a bit of trouble getting into the spirit of it. It's weird, I'm having fun making gifts for friends and family but this is the latest I've decorated in years.
I wish all my wonderful Flickr friends a joyous holiday season! Thank you for all your support.

On my way back from the Leslieville Farmer's Market, I stopped at the Value Village at Queen and Carlaw and lookie what I found!
Funny enough, I was saying to a friend not too long ago that I wanted to find some of these. :)
Giddy up! :)

It's the little things week 13.
I bought a footstool to help Dilly get into my bed. So far she's ignored it.
This coming Friday, myself and my friend Michael are heading to Awenda Provincial Park to join Andrew, Phil and Geoff for a camping trip. Sean, Tony and Mary will be coming up on Saturday to join us. I haven't been camping in ages - looking forward to a fun weekend with my fellow photographers!

Spotted this from the King streetcar this morning on the commute to work and made sure I went back for a shot after I finished for the day!

It's 9 days until my follow up with my doctor about my sky high thyroid levels. I have been trying not to let it get me down and did more changes in my diet and more exercise since I got the news in early April.
Cross your fingers for me please!

A pair of ladies chat on a park bench in the Beaches. We found a handful of these leather hearts tied to trees and light posts in the park here on the photo walk today.
Someone must have been trying to spread some love. :)

Every year, for the past 6 or 7 years, we have a pair of oystercatchers who nest on our warehouse roof. The chicks very seldom survive as we are on an industrial estate and once fledged either get taken by gulls or run over by passing lorries. Every year when I hear their loud 'peeps' I despair as the whole process will start again. There are two chicks this year and on Tuesday, a workman alerted us to the fact that one of them was injured. We think it happened when it came off the roof (it is 22 feet high and concrete below). I went over to check it out and sure enough it couldn't stand up properly so I got someone to grab a box whilst I put on some gloves to pick it up. Mum and dad were none to happy with our intervention but it would never have survived otherwise. As luck would have it we are two minutes drive from the local PDSA hospital (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals). So I drove around with it in the box. Again another lucky break, one of the vets is an expert in bird wildlife and her face lit up when she saw our little fledgling. After giving it a quick check she was very confident of it surviving and also has a friend with a farm who could keep it when it is well enough to go there. Mum and dad and the other fledgling are running around our large car park and we are all keeping our fingers cross that the other fledgling will survive.
The photo was obviously taken without flash so the quality isn't all that. You can't really see how small it is - it was small enough to fit in one hand - it was so tiny.

I know I've photographed the Hug Tree many times but every time I go by it, it just makes me smile.

Fun evening at Choir last night and oh so glad I packed an umbrella in the morning since it wasn't all that nice when we left the Monarch Tavern. It was nice to see the streetcar and get out of the rain and home!

After shooting over 500 bike bell shots, it's always nice to come across one that I don't have like this cheery number. And hooray for good timing of cyclists! :) *ding ding!*

I was lucky enough today to meet up with my friend Frank for a city walk led by TBN (Toronto Bicycle Walk). The group went to Koreatown for lunch and then Frank and I went for a wander about and ended up in Honest Ed's. Love this place and all it's oddities and signs.

Okay ... I know I'm not twirling but there was nowhere to properly place the camera. But the skirt I wore today to work has swirls and that rhymes with twirl, right?? ;)
Felt more like summer today here in Toronto - whoo hoo!

But it tastes soooo good today! Mmmm comfort food! :)

When I was a child I actually thought cuckoos went around spitting in bushes. And heavens, if I rubbed against it I would freak out at the thought on having spit on me. Now of course, I know better:-)
"Cuckoo spit is a white frothy liquid secreted by the nymphs of a sap-sucking insect known as a froghopper"
