ODC - It's the little things...

My daily walks with the dogs are most important to me, my time. Though muddy wet paths seem to be everywhere at the moment, this one got so bad I had to turnaround and go back, in places too deep for me to pass.

This miniature Shetland pony was one of small herd that we saw when out in the New Forest. They had been grazing at Newbridge but something made them take off at a gallop along the road. They would trot for short while and then set off at a gallop again. We drove ahead of them so we could stop and get some shots of them running. Eventually, they came to a holt at Penn Common, where they started grazing again.

"Mother Goose and Grimm" is one of my favorite comic strips and this one made me laugh at Attila the Cat's problem. Grimm is the dog and he and Attila are partners in crime, both belonging to Mother Goose.

Reading just a few of the daily comics is one of the Little Things; it starts my day with a laugh.

17/52 This is just a very brief segment of the ice cream truck's tune. It gets extremely old extremely quickly but the first time you hear it means the windows are open, kids and dogs are outside and it's warm enough outside that eating something cold like ice cream sounds appealing.

You might notice those flowers I was buying last week are now in pots.

Week 4 The joy of a bright flower in winter.

This is a little thing that I love, colour and flowers for as long as possible. I took these photos today (we had sunshine!) in the garden, mostly in pots on the patio. We've had a mild autumn and they are still hanging on and flowering while they can.

Off to France tomorrow and where would I be without this my little phrase book? German was the language I learnt at school up to A level. I was then allowed to take up French a couple of years into senior school but never quite got to grips with it. We have been to France many times over the years so have muddle through fairly well with the little we know, but I have not been on holiday there for 10 years and as they say 'use it or lose it' and also these days I can hardly remember the words I am looking for in English let alone a foreign language:-)

I just realised that our tablecloth is quite French looking with all those geese.

It's the little things, like standing under the cars going up in the ferris wheel at Irvine Spectrum. Someday I'll get on it but not when Benni is with me.

..........Sorry, my French Flickr friends but the only time we buy French wine these days is the one bottle of Sancerre every year to have with our Christmas dinner so we rarely see a cork. In France we weren't too far away from St Emilion and being a World Heritage Site, of course, we had to visit. We went really early in the morning when it was quiet by the time we left at 11.00am it was absolutely heaving with other tourists. Whilst looking around the town we overheard a tour guide speaking to couple of Americans on a wine tour telling them that there are 800 different producers of wine in St. Emilion and, in total, close to 2.4 million cases of wine produced there each year. So lots of little corks required.

We didn't buy any wine whilst in St Emilion (too expensive) however, we did buy the tablecloth in the photo which was actually from Provence?!?. Later back in Chantre we decided buy a small bottle just to see what it was like............delicious!

As you celebrate this special weekend remember the simple things.

It's the simple gesture of a smile, a hug, a loving word and a kind heart that God wants us to share.

The jelly beans and Peeps were our idea.

Enjoy this day and remember the Reason.

Happy Easter to all my Peeps.

like this cheeky monkey which sits on top of my husband's work camera.

I came across camera buddies on Etsy and thought what a great idea they would be for Phill when he takes photos of the younger children. He always has an array of puppets to get their attention, especially when the mothers are shouting at their children "look at the man with the camera" instead of which they look at their mothers *sigh*. The ones on Etsy were all small and crocheted and not at all appropriate. Phill loved the concept thogh so we asked Charlotte to come up with something (she's a dressmaker) and this is it. It is made to measure so fits perfectly around his huge lens hood. It has proved a real winner: the children love it and as it sits upright on his camera, there is no need to wave any toys or puppets around like he used to so he can just concentrate on taking the photo. He just says "look at the cheeky monkey" and they do.

DDC-It's the Little Things

There's nothing better than running around like a nut then plunking yourself down in the cold snow and licking it. Makes life wonderful!

Well here are the finished articles from my pottery day with Phill. I must say I am impressed by how good they turned out considering how hopeless I was. And before anyone says anything, I am truly not fishing for compliments - I found the whole day a real struggle and certainly will not be doing it again - lol. Respect to all potters out there.

Remember my red suede shoes ? At the time, I wanted to put a texture on it, because I found my doctor's ubiquitous white tile floor somewhat lacking. But it was, as they say in twitter hashtag, a major #fail. I was so frustrated that I could not get it. I cannot stand being unable to do something, it is one of my (many) personal flaws.

But, that was before I had discovered the simple secret of "free transform" to size the texture to the photo.

Now, it seems ridiculously easy, really. Isn't that always the way?

So anyways, there you have it.

I think the hardest part is in choosing the right texture for the photo.

Thanks to rubyblossom. for the use of the free (and awesome!) texture.

Me and a bit of my weaponry .... holy cow, I've posted 15,000 shots on Flickr at this point!!

Thank you all for your comments, support and fabulous friendships along the way! ox

Woodpecker Sitting on the sofa worn out by my hydrotherapy, I saw the woodpecker, so took my camera and this picture made my day.

...like Irish Soda bread. When I was a child my mother (who was Irish) would make homemade soda bread. Whilst most English families might have ham or salmon sandwiches and cakes for Sunday tea, we would have a variety of east European cooked meats with rollmop, homemade potato salad with gherkins and spring onions (which I still make today). My father would enjoy his with dark rye bread which you couldn't put your knife through, but my mother, sister and I would always have my mum's homemade soda bread with ours. The closet I have come to the taste is this one by the chef Paul Rankin.

................like when Santa and the German Christmas market comes to town. Every Friday morning I go into Southampton to visit the bank. As soon as I see the wooden huts with there decorations and Santa's sleigh appearing above the city centre I know that Christmas is nearly here.

Still really busy at work and also this weekend we are away. We are visiting Newcastle which is far up in the North East of England. I went there 5 years ago with my sister and had a wonderful time. This time it is Phill and I who are visiting. I will catch up on my return

I got up bright and early and rode out to Humber Bay Bridge to catch the sunrise. Had trouble getting my butt out of bed just after 5am but this was so worth it to start my day with a view like this.

Have a fabulous day everyone!

Oopsie! Busy day yesterday and I missed my Little Thing of the day so it was catch up on the way home.

Lovely light and sky on the way home tonight.

Hawaii is my happy place and we've celebrated many milestones there; this chain and pendant were gifts from Paul on a birthday more than 20 years ago----I don't wear much jewelry but I'm rarely seen without these (a couple of pendants have been added over the years - a palm tree and plumeria flower--in the background--that I change out from time to time but my heart is generally with the turtle)

24/52 This weekly-challenge group was started by Bennilover with the help of Chickpea and it's truly one of those little things that makes me happy. It's a completely low pressure, just-have-fun group that's motivating, sparks the imagination and keeps you looking for, and appreciating, small pleasures. Sorry for the low quality of this blurry, tilting picture - it's the idea that counts in this case.

Whoo hooo!! I picked up the negatives and CD for my first rolls through these two cameras and I'm pretty excited about it!

I definitely need more practice with the Graflex but I still like the results. I'm really pleased about the Zeiss Ikon shots. And yes, I'll be posting a few from each tonight. *happy dance!*

Some of you may remember Georgia's "spinner winner" with Phill last year when we visited Moor's Valley Park. This year Uncle Phill was absent due to other commitments but we still had fun. The park offer a Highway Rat Trail (?!?) where for a very small price you can by a bag containing a highway man's mask, a piece of string and instructions and clues of what to do along the trail. The first thing you have to do is find a stick 'as long as your arm', tie your string on it and then proceed to find treasures along the way to tie on. We gathered cones, heather and even managed a feather. There were special points along the way where we had to spot items on the map we were given. Here is Georgia racing along with her stick and string - as you will imagine most of her collection of treasures came flying off!

This little girl is the cutest dog I think I have ever met. Her name is Bear and she is 11 years old. Her owner is one of the delivery drivers who visit our industrial estate. She said Bear travels with her all the time and thoroughly enjoys it. Bear lost her eye through illness several years ago but as you can see it doesn't stop her enjoying life. She was standing in our car park last week just as I was leaving. You should feel her fur: :so soft and thick and just take a look at that one sparkling eye. She is one of my favourite little things that I have seen this year

I really do hope autotags says bear this time:-)

But their love will keep them warm.

......like this mini reindeer muffin which I had with my mid morning coffee last week. For those in the UK it's an M&S product and to be highly recommended:-)

This is my penultimate 'little thing" for 2018. I shall do my final one tomorrow as I will be doing lots of Christmassy things next week and probably won't have time. Do you like my mousketeer mug? It has 'all for one' written on the other side

We have Blue bells...only a few, but the real ones (with white stamen) and we are proud! just a little thing :-)

like our two new shubunkin. A couple of years ago two of our fish became too large for the pond and we took them to a new home at a water garden. So we were left with two large goldfish. Recently, sadly, one of the goldfish died so we decided to get a couple of small fish to keep the other one company. Shubunkin are hardy fancy goldfish with calico patterns. Here they are being 'introduced' to the pond. It takes about an hour to acclimatise them by ensuring the get used to the temperature and water in their new environment. Our big goldfish was very curious. Two more in comments below

26/52 (look at that we are half way through the year!)

I got one of the two right: happiness and courage (versus peace) were the missing pieces.

Sorry for those that guessed otherwise - please play again! ;)

It's the Little Things 2.0 #301

I thought it apt to post this photo today even thought it was taken 3 years ago as it is our 40th wedding anniversary today. As I am nearly 6 feet tall and Phill is 5ft 7ins (he'll say 5ft 8ins) there is a good difference in height, so like Sonny and Cher, he is my 'Little Man' and, as you are all aware, I am his BigBird! When we got married platform shoes were in so the height difference was negligible - lol. I did look for a pile of rubies this morning, but, alas there were none. Not my style at all, however, I was expecting a medal of some sorts for valour in the face of adversity *wink*.

Just looking at the photo it must have been cold that July as Phill has a jumper and long trousers on.

My library has started doing e-books :)

These tiny little shells are very sentimental to me as I picked them up off a beach in Roundstone, Country Galway when we took my mother to Ireland for her 80th birthday back in 2005. Her health wasn't particularly good even then and she knew she wouldn't make the journey 'back home' to Galway again. So this was her last visit to the place she was born. We rented a sweet cottage in Connemarra which gave us an opportunity to tour the county as well as visit family. The day we went to Roundstone was memorable as whilst Phill and I were walking on the beach a 4x4, with German plates, pulled up next to our car. There were two middle aged couples in the car. The men, got out of the car, stripped off completely naked and ran into the sea had a quick swim and then got back into the car. My mother couldn't get over it - lol. Now back to the shells - we had never seen any this small before and the beach was full of them. We collected several as a memento of the day for my mother - not that she needed it as she was always on about the naked Germans when the holiday was mentioned.. When she died they came back to me. I keep them in a glass bottle on our bathroom window (see photo below)

Auto tag - food?!? - yum yum

Have a great weekend everyone butt make sure you come out of it in one piece. ;p

It's the little things................ like feeling a soft, cool breeze against your skin when the weather is too warm or the wild wind when you are walking along the beach in winter and you need the cobwebs blowing out.

We are off to see Bob Dylan tonight in Bournemouth - so what else could I possibly post

Well you can take your pick here: the small coffee? the madeleine? or the little touch of the café providing Union Jack spoons for the English couple who stopped off for a coffee. I am going with the spoons. Chez Francois was situated on along a roadside near Chadurie which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere but attracted travellers and people who were working in a nearby large agricultural co-operative, lorry drivers and just people like us who happened by. Their produce was fresh and homemade and looked really tasty. The staff were nice and friendly and that is why we went back a second time, for a light lunch. Those little touches really do make a difference

My last one of this year and what a thing it is. I spotted these daffodils growing on the grass verge whilst looking out of the car window. Could not believe it but here they are being blasted by the winter's sun on 28th December

It's the little things .. we played with them at school. The horse chestnut tree outside my window is full of conkers. It will be several weeks before they fall to the ground. I picked some last October.
