I'm not a big jewelry person but wearing this bracelet comforts me. It's a reminder to hope for a cure for all cancers, including renal cell carcinoma (represented by the color orange).

These charms are little things but their meaning is huge.

.................like getting 100 photos on Explore. Over the years I have had a few hundred go on Explore but quite often they never stay there. I was so pleased to see that Kaiser's was my 100th shot that stayed put. People new to Flickr always ask how you get on Explore - I would say it is totally random because some of mine that have made it are certainly not brilliant photos, maybe entertaining, but not technically great. I do get a kick out of it as it means a lot more people get to see your photos. I could only fit 72 on the Scout poster, the other 28 are in the comments box below.

46/52..................means that there are only 6 weeks to the end of the year!! Yikes!

B. B. was shown to me in an email from a company I've never heard of who makes resin animals. Of course I couldn't live without this little pup who looks so much like Benni did as an 8 week old, even to the little bit of white on her chest.

B. B. is 5 inches high and sits very still for photos - will even look right at me. But then Benni did as a puppy too so who know what the future will bring?

I just adore lily of the valley as it reminds me of my mother (it was one of her favourite flowers). When we first moved to our house nearly thirty years ago there was an big old abandoned house a stone's throw from where we live. It had a garden that had gone wild through years of neglect and abandonment. The only flowers still surviving were an old rose bush, some ancient columbine and lots of lily of the valley. When signs went up to say the place was being demolished we knew we had to do something to save the little white flowers. Back then lily of the valley were rare and considered protected plants so we felt it our duty to rescue them. Phill managed to 'break into' the garden and dug up a couple of the plants. Today, 30 years on, we have a massive display of them growing at the bottom of the garden. (we also nabbed some columbine which is still going strong as well)

Apparently Lily of the Valley flower supposedly symbolises the return of happiness, sweetness and a feeling of contentment - yep that's me:-))

"Trust your feelings ...."

I decided to channel a bit of inner Whitney for Choir tonight. We sang "How Will I know?" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody". Holy hell, that was a lot of fun!

Sometimes folks get into the spirit of things depending on the songs we do and I was surprised there weren't at least a couple more big bows but nope, just me! That's okay - I got a handful of compliments and had a great time tonight. Looking forward to hearing our recordings. :)

..........like special ice cream for dogs.

We went over to Littlehampton last Saturday and walking along the promenade a sign outside a snack bar caught my eye (see below). The young guy behind the counter told me that it was £2.50 ($3.24) a tub and was extremely popular with dog owners and, of course, their dogs. Apparently it has been on Dragons Den. Benni this was just made for you!

I was walking down Queen West after dinner with my friend Michael and suddenly heard music. Goorin Hat Makers was celebrating the anniversary of the end of prohibition. How awesome is that?

I love Toronto!

I bought this little nativity set a few years ago and it sits on my mantle place. I am not religious but I thought it was sweet. This year I added my cat angels to the scene. Later on when I went to light the candles either side of it, I noticed there were now 3 wise men and a leprechaun. I think my husband has had a hand in this. I have a feeling that next year's nativity scene will grow some more.

Below is how it looks with the candles and my big angels.

For my birthday, this year, my sister bought me a string of tea light holders. I do not mean to sound ungrateful but I had said to my family not to buy me 'things' for the house anymore as we had run out of space and sure enough they haven't been so I was surprised to receive this. Where on earth was I going to put them? Then I had a brainwave: if I could find a plant that didn't need much soil or watering I could use them as little pots to hang in the garden. We eventually found a plant that fitted the bill and hey presto into the garden they went (see below in comments). Later on when I was thanking my sister for the gift, I said that I hoped that she didn't mind but I had used the gift to hold plants. Isn't that what they are? she said No they're tea light holders. I replied. She went on to say that she knew I didn't want anything for the house so she thought this would look good in the garden with trailing plants in them. She did laugh when I explained that very few plants would survive in something so tiny with hardly any soil and without drainage. A gardener my sister is not:-)

Yesterday flickr refused to upload my chosen video of the dawn chorus. You can hear it here: www.ipernity.com/doc/333375/44161580

I love this time of year when the leaves are off the trees and I can see the river and the lower meadow from my flat.

It's the little things... like seeing a perfectly formed banksia in the garden. Just amazing! Banksia in my sister's back garden at Braemar, Southern Highlands, NSW

What a fabulously wonderful gift from Joann and such a pretty card to go along with it! The book actually came yesterday and the card today. I waited in hopes that the card would come and I could shoot them together - so glad I did!

Thank you for your lovely gift my darling grrl!! oxo

ki don't know what to do when people are handing over the reigns of my mother's house and the ridiculous fuck up in me is a little bit closer to the surface than I am liking to admit.

I received a message from my grrl Michelle the evening after finding out about Benjamin's passing ... I wanted to participate as a tribute to that brave young man. I thought that he would approve of the idea. I hope you can participate too, no matter where you're from. :)

Message from Michelle's friend Clint Darden:

"Without exposing my soft alias side, I do some work with children's hospitals across The World. I have been in contact with a young man (Age 7) named Wilson who is fighting Leukemia. This little guy had a request that I can't fulfill all by myself although I can contribute. He is going to be undergoing a bone marrow transplant next month and his mom has requested for people to send a postcard or picture of where they are from for them to pin onto a giant map in his room so he can learn a little geography while he's in and for him to see where all people are supporting him from. Wilson's Mother's hope was to get something from all 50 states.

If you think that you can send him a post card, or just a note, here is the mailing addy that they have provided me with:

Greenford Cupboard

ATTN Wilson

PO Box 105

Greenford OH 44422"

Thank you in advance everyone!

like still be able to see the K (just) which is etched on the tree where we scattered my mother's ashes. I visited the place whilst I was there over the weekend. It would have been her birthday today hence the post. We chose the place as it is a woodland where people walk their dogs - she was a dog owner herself. It is also right next to a bluebell field which were one of her favourite flowers. My mother's name was Kathleen (family called her Kit) and my sister and I thought it was really weird when we chose the place and saw this carved on the tree. We definitely took it as a sign we had chosen well. The K is slowly disappearing but my mother's spirit will always be there looking at the bluebells blooming in the spring and watching all the dogs walking in the woods.

.................like private jokes which no-one else will understand but you and the person you share it with (usually your family). As soon as we both saw this van we laughed our heads off and Phill insisted we get a shot of him and the van. Now to anyone else this means nothing but when Phill was a very young child, one of his school reports said that he was a playboy. As he was only about 8 at the time this was quite a sweeping statement for someone to make. However, after 40 years, I think the teacher had the measure of Phill quite right - lol

Soooo ... very interesting. I get to Image Makeover tonight for a cut and wash. My stylist, Hanah tells me it's her LAST DAY!!! Aaaaaaaaack! So I was her last client of the day too.

And I was her second client when she first started working there about 4 years ago as a junior stylist! She's actually doing a couple classes at U of T in order to go back to school and do a teaching certificate so she can teach French! Hooray for her but I'll be sad to see her go!

I gave her free rein but she still did the faux hawkesque style since she thinks it looks great on me .... just a bit more pompadour-ish since she left it longer and straightened it a bit too.

You go grrl!! oxoxo

It's the little things .... when your grandson will at long last willingly stand for a photograph! Bernie has always been shy of the camera and it has been very difficult to get some 'nice' photos of him. Finally he's come around and has even started asking for his photo to be taken!

Picnic with our daughter and family at Mt Keira summit, Wollongong NSW

Pink! :D

What a fabulous way to start the day! Thank you to my friend Michael for getting us out to Port Credit bright and early this morning. And thanks to me for the suggestion! ;p

Have a beautiful weekend folks!

I went to my first yoga class in a very long time. I really need to start going again regularly - it was really good to go through all the moves and remember a few muscles that I hadn't used in quite those ways in awhile.

At the end, we took this pose and the instructor spoke about it being about 'no fear' and about giving and receiving. Things have been feeling unbalanced lately and I'm hoping to regain a bit of balance and to be a bit more receptive to receiving as well as giving to those around me.

Thank you to everyone that has been so supportive along the way.

Namaste.

A cut hospital armband means I've been released. Yes, I was back in the hospital this week with toxic high blood pressure of 234/106. This has been an ongoing problem for me - I'll be fine for months or even years, then have an episode like this one.

All the doctors are perplexed about it and each time is more frightening for me than the last. My dad had a stroke after dealing with high blood pressure most of his life. Now I'm on three different medications and feeling the side effects...but I'm alive and relatively well...it's the little things that are sometimes the big things.

I had a bit of trouble deciding on the finale shot of my "Little Things" series. After careful consideration, I decided to go with this photo.

On the walk home after work, I looked down a side street and saw the little park there. Wandered down to see if there were swings and there were! Sat myself down and had a little bit of a simple pleasure.

I hope you all get a chance to enjoy some simple pleasures over the Easter weekend.

Thank you all so very much for your encouragement in this 365(366) project. I really do appreciate all your wonderful, fun, sweet and great comments along the way. I have a feeling I will do another 365 ... just need a new theme to work with! oxo

TAAAAAAAAA-DAAAAAAA!

So as I said yesterday, I went by the store today and saw the blue Super G shirt was no longer in the window. I went in and found out that this is where Bang On moved their t-shirt shop to. Apparently the vintage store here was owned by the same folks, so they just amalgamated the two stores.

Sooooo - it does come in pink!! Whoo hoo! :D

I'm not really into the big retail part of the holidays but I do adore the creativity that Fashion Crimes puts into their window displays. And I'm definitely not ready for Christmas with all the carols and such quite yet either.

But I do like doing the little things for friends and family over the holidays ... which is more important than the bling. Even though bling can be fun too sometimes. And being crafty is handy at this time of the year too. :)

It's the Little Things #237

It was calling for about 40mm of rain today - I think we must have got at least this much today! I decided to wear a cheery combination of colours to battle the grey and as a bit of tribute to Pride Week.

I had two fun incidents on the way home. Walking along Bloor West, not far from St. George Station, a tour bus drove by and a young girl of about 11 or 12, leaned out the window and yelled to me "I looooove your umbrella!" I called out "Thank you!" and gave it a twirl. Thank you again to Sally, my faboo grrl that gave this to me as a b-day prezzie two years ago.

Then as I got to Bloor and Brunswick, a woman sporting a lovely umbrella with a blue sky and fluffy white cloud print on the underside spied me and gave me a big smile. She complimented me on my ensemble and how great I looked. Then she mentioned she does painting and asked if she could take a photo - I laughed and said yes - did the pose and she took two photos. I told her that I do photography and she asked for my Flickr link. :)

I had already been thinking of a selfie for today but these encounters definitely told me it was a *must*!

Yesterday I met up with Natalie and her hubby for a belated birthday dinner and I got a cool pink and grey tool set - really, they're proper tools to go along with the tool belt they gave me a year ago. So it only made sense to do a proper photo shoot.

Always fabulous to have such fun friends! Thank you both! ox
