Iris is a genus of 210 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many specie.

Iris es un género de plantas bulbosas de la familia Iridaceae con vistosas flores, cuyo nombre deriva del latín arco iris, refiriéndose a la extensa variedad de colores florales que poseen sus muchas especies y cultivares de jardín.

L’Iris (nom masculin) est un genre de plante vivace à rhizomes ou à bulbes de la famille des Iridacées (dont fait également partie le crocus). Le genre Iris contient 210 espèces et d'innombrables variétés horticoles. On trouve souvent dans les jardins des Iris germaniques.

The irises near Bishop were already making a good show on April 28, and are probably peaking now. See all those buds? Like fireworks rockets ready to burst into explosions of color.

Montreux - a small clump of irises at the foot of a palm tree. I think it is Iris unguicularis - Algerian winter iris.
