Iris morphology is the product of evolution acting to attract and compete for pollinators- a landing pad, guides to help find nectar and pollen, and even shelter from inclement weather. The function of fthe beard is uncertain though. The showiest outer parts are bracts, modified leaves, which surround the petals.
The irises are peaking just in time for a major winter storm sweeping through Colorado- 8 inches (20 cm) for the plains, 24 inches (60 cm) for the mountains.
I bought Jim an Olympus Pen for his birthday, I managed to get my hands on it today, what a fantastic camera I love it!
