Each time I see an iris, I am immediatly standing in the midst of my grandmother's iris' admiring how beautiful they were, almost as beautiful as she. We had great conversations as she weeded her beds of multi-colored iris', teaching me about life and her "secrets" to be successful. I have mixed emotions as I view this photograph knowing although she may not be with me physically, like the iris, her memories will be with me forever. I will always love you.

Through its intricate history, the meanings of the iris has come to include faith, hope, and wisdom. Depending on factors such as color and region, irises may bear additional meanings as well. In some parts of the world, the dark blue or purple iris can denote royalty, whereas the yellow iris can be a symbol of passion. Irises may also express courage and admiration. The many meanings of the iris makes the flower a great choice for an array of gift giving occasions.
From my garden.
This is the native wild Iris that grows from Manitoba south to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio and Virginia. (from Peterson's Field Guide to Wildflowers.) I was really happy to find one growing in the meadow near me...I don't think I've ever seen one before. Photography opens your eyes to worlds previously unnoticed, I love it!
Trees, plants, flowers all grow towards the sun-a positive energy that helps one thrive...Find that person or place, and allow yourself to grow!
Happy Valentine's Day to each of you
Iris is a genus of 260–300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris. Some authors state that the name refers to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. As well as being the scientific name, iris is also widely used as a common name for all Iris species, as well as some belonging to other closely related genera.Irises are perennial plants, growing from creeping rhizomes (rhizomatous irises) or, in drier climates, from bulbs (bulbous irises). They have long, erect flowering stems which may be simple or branched, solid or hollow, and flattened or have a circular cross-section. The inflorescences are in the shape of a fan and contain one or more symmetrical six-lobed flowers. 4726

Just a common iris growing near our garden pond, but until I started processing this photo I had no idea just how intricate and beautiful these flowers are. I could see some kind of pattern on the camera LCD and focused in on it and now I realise how beautifully structured they are.
