Purple Iris in my garden.

One of four images of Irises--both cultivated & wild--seen at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, New York, USA on May 28, 2025.

This iris comes from Grandma's farm, we transplanted them about 14 years ago.

Iris, the flower symbol of Florence

Ozark Rebounder bloomed on March 31, 2010 in my yard. It looked like black velvet yesterday. It looks just a bit lighter in the picture than it really does.

From Superstition Iris Garden in Cathey's Valley.

The hard rains we had through April & May have caused many of the taller plants to lean on their neighbors for support.

While the larger, showier iris were decimated by desperate deer before they had a chance to bloom, most of the Siberian Iris remained intact. Maybe because the squirrels have long since moved them from their original grouping, and re-burried them elsewhere. This is one of a few scattered amongst the Pachysandra on the opposite side of the yard.

The light passes through the delicate pale wisp of a petal revealing its impeccably fine details.

Purple Iris have been my favorite flower for a long time. I can't enough of the cool delicate petals and the intense scent. These ruffly petals and the two-tones had me enchanted and dawdling when I was supposed to be talking a brisk walk.

From rooting around on Flickr, it seems to be Iris japonica thunb.

I thought this iris's bright, light color fit perfectly for a Sunday morning post . . .
