I think these are the prettiest irises I've ever seen. When they go to seed, I'm going to grab a few pods :)

From Turkey in 1895, this iris was one of the first tetraploids used in iris hybridizing. A fine garden plant. A personal favorite.

Blue Flag Iris (Iris versicolor), Volo Bog State Natural Area, Illinois.

Very beautiful colours. Not sure what the species is.

It likely is Iris setosa. If anyone disagrees please correct me. :)

One of my favourite irises and only the second one to bloom this year out of nearly 10 plants :(

This is a really lame image, but it shows that the petals are basically gone ("obsolete"), unlike most irises. The big beautiful floppy blue things are the sepals. The bee here was very active (YES, a busy bee...) thrusting him(her?)self deep between the sepal and the inner surface of the style. Of course there is an anther down in there being ravaged.

Not sure of the correct ID of this one.
