One spring day many moons ago, I decided to walk down Michigan Avenue in Chicago and visited the Cultural Center and heard a flutist playing and it echoed like heaven through the stairs in marble corridors. Picture the Taj Mahal. I then purchased a bunch of blue irises and walked on down the Avenue. I went to the Art Institute and saw the Joseph Cornell collection of shadow boxes and was impressed by his shadow boxes of the Swan Lake and the one that depicted the snowy evening in Russia when the ballerina Maria Taglioni was commanded to perform in the snow on top of a panther skin under stars. Afterwards, I took High Tea at Marshall Fields. The loveliest day ever!

Iris aphylla 'Balascuta' is a small iris, almost an MDB with me, but has a long blooming period and later than the MDBs. It always comes out rumpled.
