Mariendom in Velbert Neviges

Last October I had a chance to visit the Mareindom in Verlbert Neviges. I was interrested to see this piece of brutalism architecture in real. Too me it appeared smaller than I expected. There was a service going on, so I could not visit the interiour of the church.

The Cathedral of the Dormition (Успенский Собор) is the mother church of Muscovite Russia. The church stands on the Cathedral Square at the Moscow Kremlin and was built in 1475–1479 by the Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti.

In the 14th century, Metropolitan Peter persuaded Ivan I that he should build a cathedral to the Holy Virgin in Moscow like the Cathedral of the Dormition in the capital city Vladimir. Construction of the cathedral began on August 4, 1326. In the following year, Moscow became the capital of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality, and later of all Rus.

By the end of the 15th century the old cathedral had become dilapidated, and in 1472 the Pskov architects Kryvtsov and Myshkin began construction of a new cathedral. Two years later, the building was nearing completion when it suddenly collapsed because of an earthquake, an extremely rare event in Moscow.

Ivan III then invited Aristotele Fioravanti, a celebrated architect and engineer from Bologna, Italy, to come to Moscow and entrusted him with the task of building the cathedral from scratch in the traditions of Russian architecture. The cathedral in Vladimir was once again taken as a model for the building, and so Fioravanti travelled to Vladimir in order to study Russian methods of building. He designed a light and spacious masterpiece that combined the spirit of the Renaissance with Russian traditions.

The foundation for the new cathedral was laid in 1475, and in 1479 the new cathedral was consecrated by Metropolitan Geronty. The interiour was painted with frescoes and adorned with many holy images, including Theotokos of Vladimir and the Blachernitissa.

In 1547 the coronation of the first Russian Tsar, Ivan the Terrible, took place in this cathedral. From 1721 it was the scene of the coronation of the Russian emperors. The ritual installation of metropolitans and patriarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church also took place in this cathedral, and their tombs are to be found here. The patriarchate was abolished by Peter the Great and only restored after February Revolution of 1917.

On November 21, 1917 the cathedral was the setting for the installation of Tikhon (Belavin), the Moscow metropolitan, as patriarch. Subsequently he was canonized. After the transfer of the Bolshevik government to Moscow, services in the Kremlin cathedrals were prohibited. It was only with Lenin's special permission that the final Easter service was held in 1918. The final moments of this Easter service was the subject of an unfinished painting by Pavel Korin entitled Farewell to Rus.

There is a legend that in the winter of 1941, when the Nazis had already reached the threshold of Moscow, Joseph Stalin secretly ordered a service to be held in the Dormition Cathedral to pray for the country's salvation from the invading Germans. In 1990 the Dormition Cathedral was returned to the church, although a large museum still operates within it.

On the left side of The Cathedral of the Dormition stands Church of the Deposition of the Robe and to the right Church of the Twelve Apostles.

This church is not famous because it's wonderful interiour, but because of the US paratroopers, who got caught on the roof top on D-Day...

Hey lads!

I’ve returned from my vacation and will start right into a bigger project – actually a quite huge project considering the space i need for it. Since Chrismas last year i‘ve had the idea, but my builds didnt work out the way they needed to. Therefore i had to redesign A LOT and i finally got an acceptable solution since last month^^ phew!

Maybe some of you can guess what it will be (or someone even knows ;-) ), but anyhow expect something fun (or not, if it wont work haha^^).

It will take some time to get from digital to real via the „very easy“ way of doing bricklink oders (those actually keep me from building more irl! So painful and time consuming o_O). Maybe the new bricklink facelift is helping… stay tuned fellas!

Elanor

Howard Shore - "Elanor."

Lord of the Rings OST

“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.”

Created my own little "Bag End" on my private parcel. I once lived on a sim called "the Shire." and I miss it dearly. So the last few days I have been making my own little Shire.

I use pictures from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies to get the interiour as close as possible.

Loved listening to songs related to the hobbits while creating this <3

Especially the song "Elanor" which inspired me to take this picture.

The Interiour of the Truck.

From Left to right:

1. Two Armor stands. A bit inspired by the ultra Agents wave 2 armor pieces

2. A tabel with a cookie. sometimes, secret Agents just have to sit down ^.^

3. Drawer. Not much more to say here

4. Desk, Lamp and a map. I chose this instead of the computer that is in the original set.

5. A tool rack. most of those tools are meant to me used in the case that the engine breaks

6. Boxes full of stuff; Weapons, gasmasks, Srews.. who knows what secrets could lie in those tiny little boxes?

7. Engine controll unit. Mostly used to prevent the engine from overheating.

8. Engine. used to power the truck (duh...). Has a refueling Valve on this side, and a vent on the other side. (Idiotic pun: Sadly you can not insert fuel, becourse you would have to turn the VALVE THREE times. :3)

The rest of the Details will be on the Detail Montage that I will post when I am done building all the contest MOCs

Hildegard Knef: Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen

Time to talk a little bit about the new camera setup I'm using for this project. As you probably already know, I have a superb Zeiss & Sony based camera system in my use for this project and one goal of this project is to share my experiences with you regarding this setup (read more about it here). Now, I'll be the first one to say that I'm sincerely grateful to have this opportunity because it's much more that I could really afford 'in real life'. Actually it might be even a bit more, since in the back of my mind I like to think that this is really a once-in-a-lifetime setup and something I will surely remember even at the older days – one of those rare cherries that life has decided to toss me with all the other junk it throws at me, hah! So, I'm naturally very happy about it.

But it wasn't always like this. Like anyone who is starting with photography, I too had to put up with a very modest kit at the start. Years ago I only had a Sony Nex-5N with a kit lens, the original SEL1855 (3.5-5.6/18-55). As the kit lens was way too slow for indoor photography and I also wanted to have that shallow depth of field in my photographs, I counted my pennies very seriously and got myself the SEL50F18 (50/1.8). And that was it – I had two lenses for everything. From the image quality's point of view the SEL50F18 was a great lens that I used a lot. Equipped with the optical image stabilizer it was perfect for low light photography and I loved taking it out on streets at night. However, in small spaces and indoors it was a bit bulky and I had to resort for the kit lens which had convenient focal range, but was kind of 'meh' when it came to optical quality. In short, I was living within compromises, and of course, dreamed about a better setup like anyone who is just starting out with photography.

About year ago I was lucky and had an opportunity to switch my Sony Nex-5N to Sony Alpha 7, which had a full frame sensor and was much more 'a serious camera' than the Nex-5N. At the start I thought I could afford to upgrade my APS-C lenses to native FE-lenses pretty soon, but unfortunately I was wrong and had to make it with the Touit 2.8/12 and the Touit 2.8/50M. While these were very fine lenses, they had quite a gap between them in terms of focal length and they didn't utilize the whole image circle of the full frame sensor. Even if I absolutely preferred the ergonomics of the Sony A7, I was left with the camera setup that wasn't so much better than what I had with the Sony Nex-5N. To be truthful, it was actually worse, since the focal lengths that I had didn't mix so well with many of the real life situations that I encountered. So even if I had a better camera, I was still dreaming to be unchained from the limitations of my setup.

Then fast forward to year 2016 and the rest of the story you already know. This project has enabled me, with the kind help of my supporters, to use the camera setup that will finally set me free from the earlier limitations. I have access to full frame camera system that offers fast lenses in many essential focal ranges (18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm plus 75mm macro). So how does it suddenly feel to be freed from the compromises and to have that setup that I could only dream about some years ago? To be truthful, it feels kind of overwhelming. While I used years to explore the Sony Nex-5N with the SEL50F18 almost permanently attached to it and learned my system from the inside-out, I'm now facing several different kind of lenses which are still strangers to me – I don't know them in the context of my own photography and I haven't yet learn put their own unique characteristics in practice. In other words, there's a lot to learn before I can truly say that this is my setup.

For what it matters, the Nex-5N, even with inferior technical abilities and some irritating details, has been the most successful camera for me to this day. As anyone knows, it takes many successful photography experiences to really start loving your setup – and these successful experiences are really 'the thing' I'm looking for in the year 2016. I look forward to overthrown the Nex-5N.

The best Drophead I've seen so far, no doubt about it. I really think it's the ultimate pimp-mobile in this colour. The red roof and interiour just look amazing on it and a golden Spirit of Ecstasy finishes it all off. Very impressive car!
