I had the chance to visit Lunga in the Treshnish Isles recently to see the large Puffin colony. An amazing experience with loads of photo opportunities

---
In 1527, Lachlan Maclean of Duart decided to murder his wife, Lady Catherine Campbell, a sister of Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll. He rowed out to the rock one night at low tide and left his wife stranded on the rock to die. (Wikipedia)
Broadford is situated along the southern edge of the Inner Sound, forming the largest settlement in South Skye. The main pier in Broadford is still used commercially for fishing and other purposes; a small motor boat, the Family's Pride II, also operates trips from here.
In the past Broadford pier was used to ship out Skye marble from the Kilchrist quarries.
This image was captured at sunrise after a heavy storm the night before. The weather was still crazy, lots of rain and wind, but we also had stunning light.

It was a fantastic evening at Elgol where conditions were constantly changing as Storm Dennis barreled across the Isle of Skye. We were treated to ever changing conditions, including a rising tide, gale force winds, driving rain, hail pellets, snow, grey skies, broken clouds, flat light which was often quickly followed with moments of gorgeous golden hour light.
There were 7 of us dashing about capturing as many images as we could, in conditions we had only dreamed of before. A majority of us ended up at the JCB (Joe Cornish Boulder) to capture the incoming tide as the sun set. In the distance can be seen the snowcapped Cuillins.
It was a challenge, as the waves broke on the rocks, to keep the sea spray off the front of the lens. As I was walking back to the car in darkness, I thought to myself how fortunate I was!

The Isles of Canna, Muck, Rùm and Eigg from Sanna on Ardnamurchan. There's even a hint of the isle of Skye behind them.
A magical moment on Skye, as the sun set and low cloud rolled in from the north. The cloud flowed like slow water over the Bealach Na Beiste between the wonderful mountans Garbh Bheinn (mostly hidden behind Sgurr nan Each on the left if the shot) and Belig (on the right). This was taken from close to the shore of Loch Slappin. Although I didn't know it at the time, it was the beginning of one of the most memorable days I have had in the hills.
Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural sea arch near Portknockie on the north-eastern coast of Scotland. It is so called because it resembles the tip of a fiddle bow. It is composed of Quartzite, a metamorphic rock which was originally quartz sandstone.
This rock is part of the Cullen Quartzite formation which is seen along the coast between Buckie and Cullen. The formation is some 2,400m thick and dates from the Neoproterozoic Era, 1,000 to 541 million years ago.
Rogie Falls are a series of waterfalls on the Black Water, a river in Ross-shire in the Highlands of Scotland. The falls are about 2 km north-west of the village of Contin, next to the A835 road. They are a popular tourist attraction, with several forest walks.
The Hebrides
Can’t believe it was 5 years (2012) when we went here. Have five lots of items to post. This is the second. A very beautiful place to visit with the weather on your side, could imagine it to be very bleak.
Clouds reflected in the sea at Greenacre Bay near Oban on a calm, bright and sunny day; looking towards the Isle of Lismore, Mull, and, in the distance, the southern end of Northwest Highlands.
Whilst exploring compositions along the beach at Elgol on the Isle of Skye, a lovely fellow photographer stopped to say hello and mentioned that a well-photographed rounded rock was located nearby, but quite tricky to find. Apparently well known UK photographer Joe Cornish had made some great shots of this rock some time ago and many have photographed it since. My newfound photography friend described to me where I could find the canon-ball shaped rock so after thanking him very much, I managed to track it down and took several shots, of which this was my pick of the bunch. To the friendly chap who was shooting on a Nikon mirrorless full frame camera - on the rather remote off-chance that you spot this on Flickr - thanks again for your generosity to a fellow photographer :)
A hefty wind stirs the surface of freshwater Loch Leathan, beneath the dominating cliffs of The Storr and its 'Old Man' monolith on the skyline. The A855 highland road makes its northward way along the eastern side of the Trotternish Peninsula on the Isle of Skye.
Another shot from the Isle of Lunga, home to a good sized colony of Puffins. This bird was coming in at high speed but I managed to focus just in time as it was about to land

Salen away - The abandoned fishing trawlers with remnants of the old pier at Salen on the Isle of Mull resting under a moody, dark and brooding sky.
A Hebridean tradition, boats are often left to decay on the shoreline where they come to rest at the end of their working lives.
There is a melancholy beauty to these wrecks as they mark the passage of time, snuggled together and slowly rotting, crumbling to an ever perilous state of decay; hinting at an existence and former island life that once was.

View of Blà Bheinn from Torrin on the far side of Loch Slapin from the distant mountain. Blà Bheinn is part of the spectacular Black Cuillin range of mountains on the Isle of Skye, the largest of Scotland's Inner Hebrides. The Black Cuillin are composed of gabbro rock and are sharp and spiky in comparison to the rounded summits of the nearby pink-ish granite Red Cuillin range.
It stopped raining long enough to take in the fabulous view to the Old Man of Storr and down to Loch Leathan and the Sound of Raasay.
Ulva is a small island to the west of Mull (flic.kr/p/2q15CU5). I guess that being so small they have no choice but to let their old, unseaworthy, boats rot in peace.
The Isle of Skye, or simply Skye, is the largest and northernmost of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The island's peninsulas radiate from a mountainous hub dominated by the Cuillin, the rocky slopes of which provide some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the country
Catching the light - Looking across from the Quiraing to the unique and remarkable landscape of the Trotternish Ridge, with the summer greens on Cnòc a Mhèrlich, Cleat and Bioda Buidhe catching the light on an otherwise gloomy scene.

So after a frantic couple of weeks I had a free afternoon and it was pouring down so perfect for some hard drive clearing. Problem was, as usual, I found some shots I liked and did a bit of editing and so end up with even more on the computer.
I love watching otters eat - the embodiment of gusto. You can see a nosey seal in the very top left. In fact a day tracking these along the shoreline and getting down in the seaweed to watch and photograph them is just about perfect for me.
Press L - may even hold up to a Z'd-ing.
Keep on rolling - The iconic view across Loch Scavaig from Elgol towards the dramatic Black Cuillin.
Some superb late light catching the rocks on the shoreline as the incoming high tide rolls in, just in front of the now legendary 'beachball'.

Taken on my last trip to Mull, but not previously uploaded. Looking forward to returning to the island in 2017 :-)
The big attraction on the Isle of Lunga are the Puffins but it's also a great opportunity to photograph other sea birds up close like this Razorbill

Reportage photography from Rothesay, Bute, Scotland.
On a visit to the Isle of Bute in 2019 I stumbled upon the first ever pride march on the island. I imagine it takes a rural island community to use a tractor as transport for a couple of drag queens.
June was chosen as Pride Month because the first pride marches were held in June 1970 to commemorate one year after the Stonewall riots in New York City, USA.
A celebration of LGBTQ pride is needed because people that are LGBTQ have been abused, attacked and persecuted simply for being LGBTQ. Nobody should be persecuted simply for existing as their true selves.
Trans people are at serious risk right now as their rights and existence is under threat from culture war politics and manufactured hate. Much of that hate just recycled from terms and phrases used during the 80s to attack gays and lesbians.
Same sex attractive behaviour has been studied and identified in over 1500 species. Homophobia exists in only one species.
Love is Love.
Trans women are women.
Trans men are men.
Non-binary people are non-binary.

I hate that this needs to be said but:
