Maiden Island is a small uninhabited island to north of the mouth of Oban Bay. The red and white body of Kerrera Lighthouse, which marks the end of Oban Bay, can just be seen on the waterline of the Isle of Kerrera (left hand side of the image).

This panorama was created from photographs taken at the Oban end of Greenacre Bay.

A fairy fantasy - The magical fairy pools descending Coire na Creiche with the Black Cuillin living up to its name and looking dark and ominous as ever. The distinctive pyramidal pinnacle of Sgurr an Fheadain presides centre stage over this enchanted, almost fantasy, landscape.

Have a great weekend everyone; certainly looks like a good one here in the UK.

Many thanks to my Flickr Friends for all your recent kind comments - always appreciated, thank you.

Beached - Long forgotten and abandoned fishing boats beached on Mull. A Hebridean tradition, boats are often left to decay on the shoreline where they come to rest at the end of their working lives.

With catch, taken on board Mull Charters, Lady Jane, on a dull day.

Not as sharp as I would have liked, taken wide open at F4, with Nikon 300mm F2.8 + 1.4 TC.

The Old Man of Storr rock-stack, located toward the north of the Isle of Skye, with Loch Leathan seen just beneath. We had wanted to get some closer shots too, but the rather forbidding cloud cover seen here, did as might be expected and shed enough torrential rain so as to completely obscure the Old Man when we got to the start of the trail that may have provided a closer view. A good excuse to revisit in the next year or two with luck.

Staffa is an island in the Inner Hebrides which lies about 10 km west of Mull and is cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. It is an important breeding ground for fulmars, common shags and puffins, and has been designated as a national nature reserve and a site of special scientific interest.

The island is entirely volcanic and consists largely of hexagonal basalt columns similar to those found at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. The island is best known for these columns, and the sea cave known as 'Fingal's Cave', made famous by Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture.

This photograph shows some of these famous basalt columns; it was taken close to the island's only safe landing place and the entrance to Fingal's Cave.

Marking time - The abandoned fishing trawlers at Salen on the Isle of Mull under a moody, dark and brooding sky.

There is a melancholy beauty to these wrecks as they mark the passage of time, slowly rotting, crumbling to an ever perilous state of decay; hinting at an existence and former island life that once was.

Fairy pools - The incredible fairy pools descending Coire na Creiche from the heart of the Black Cuillin with a shaft of sunlight catching the distinctive pyramidal pinnacle of Sgurr an Fheadain. A truly wonderful and inspirational location.

Ardbeg - Sitting on the coast just north of Port Ellen, Ardbeg, one of the three famous Kildalton distilleries stands out whitewashed in the bright summer sunshine.

Ancient landscape - Looking across from the Quiraing to the unique and ancient landscape that is the Trotternish Ridge, with the summer greens of Cnòc a Mhèrlich, Cleat and Bioda Buidhe catching the shifting light on an otherwise gloomy afternoon.

Plenty more closeups to come, but a wider view for a change and a bit more context. Thanks again to Martin and Alex for another phenomenal adventure aboard The Lady Jayne (Mull Charters).

Isle of Mull, Scotland.

I felt immeasurable, unrivalled joy as I caught sight of this from further down the road to the North of the Isle of Iona, Scotland. The flowery bush, the deep blue sky and the wispy clouds invited me to the cross where I considered how lucky I am I to be alive.

Skyeline - Looking down the Trotternish Ridge as the weather closes in; distinctive Cleat is framed by Beinn Edra with The Storr in the far distance, just beyond Sugrr a Mhadaith Ruaidh.

Trotternish Peninsula, Isle of Skye..

Designed by Robert Stevenson and first lit in 1833, the lighthouse stands on an islet off the tip of Lismore island. A familiar sight to any ferry passengers heading out to the islands from Oban.

Talisker gold - The boulders on the shoreline of Talisker Bay illuminated gold at sunset. A spectacular and colourful end to the day as the sun sets across the Minch.

Eilean Donan (Eilean Donnain) is a small tidal island where three sea lochs meet, Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh, in the western Highlands of Scotland. A picturesque castle that frequently appears in photographs, film and television dominates the island, which lies about 1 kilometre from the village of Dornie. Since the castle's restoration in the early 20th century, a footbridge has connected the island to the mainland.

Sgurr na Stri.

I woke early last Sunday morning, stuck my head out of the van and could see it was going to be a dull overcast sunrise so a long lie was the order of the day. I was more than happy with the results from the previous days efforts on Loch Coruisk, the conditions had been kind to me so it was no real issue not getting a sunrise. I dosed for a couple of hours before rising to pack the van ready to go home. Before leaving I drove down to the shore front to take in that view just one more time.

Claire suggested a bowl of porridge and a strong brew of tea while we enjoyed the view, and just maybe some nice light might come by our way. I set up the camera waiting for the clouds to break. It would have been rude not to refuse this shot as the light rolled in from Camasunary and over the lower slopes of Sgurr na Stri, the mountain I'd been on the previous day.
