People often ask me why I keep going back to the Isle of Skye..
Perhaps this helps to answer some of their questions...
Iona cloisters - The cloisters at Iona Abbey.
The abbey is located on the holy Isle of Iona, just off the Isle of Mull on the west coast of Scotland. Iona is considered the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland; St Columba founded the Benedictine monastery on the island in AD 563 and is thus regarded as the most holy place in Scotland.

I was lucky enough to catch this handsome chap just as he was coming into contact with the water when returning to sea to hunt.
Situated near Glenbrittle on the Isle of Skye is this spectacular natural phenomenon of multiple waterfalls, seemingly vibrant blue & green in color, with cold swimmable pools. These magical pools are overlooked by some spectacular scenery including the Black Cuillin mountains.
Tobermory reflections - The iconic and colourful waterfront at Tobermory reflected in the still waters of the harbour on what was a rather gloomy November afternoon with the light already failing.
Isle of Mull, Scottish Inner Hebrides
Ahead of another trip to the Isle of Mull later this summer, here's one of the shots I got from my last trip out with Mull Charters of this beautiful bird swooping down for a fish.

Number 221 of my 365 photo challenge - A panoramic stitch, landscape image of the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides.
The weather was awful so this was the best I could manage before all hell broke loose. 49mph gusts and very heavy, soaking rain that I could just do nothing to stop from getting in the way. Will have to revisit another time in better conditions.

This is the first time that I have seen an otter in the wild and I got to photograph it too. What a treat! Gary and I were on the Isle of Mull and had seen an otter fishing and making its way along the shore of the loch. We got ahead of it and waited - Gary had to go and move the car and I stayed put. I was fortunate that the otter came ashore right in front of me. I was very excited and just kept pressing the shutter. Gary missed it but he did get another otter opportunity so don't feel too sorry for him.
Thank you for stopping by to look at my photos. I appreciate any comments to encourage me with my new hobby 😊
Pushing things a little with this title but it is also taken from the pretty inlet at Portuairk, the British Mainland's most westerly settlement. I watched this sunset for some while the other evening, observing such a change in the colour range as it continued to develop. This was taken after the sun had set just out of picture on the left. The colour was even more intense there but I was keen to keep my focus on the island of Rum in the distance which had turned a deep purple in an otherwise pastel pink palette.
Mag-Crow (sometimes called Hooded or Scotch Crow) is a species that attracts an enormous amount of attention on the rare occasions they appear in eastern England and yet are seemingly unnoticed north of the border into Scotland
Mag-Crows belong to the genus Cravendaw - which includes other corvids such as Crow, Raven and Jackdaw. Like other cravendaws the Mag-Crow is an omnivorous and an opportunistic forager and feeder. This one agreed to be photographed in exchange for a small quantity of pork-pie while we waited to board a ferry on The Isle of Mull 😉
A wild few hours spend in the Inner Hebrides. Dark Clouds, Strong Winds and Sea Spray which didn’t let up one bit! I found a cave and watched the horizontal rain drive past the opening for 20 minutes and then,
just for a moment,
Before the sun set,
the rain stopped…

Happy Tuesday! Thanks for stopping by and for all of your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

Sheep living near Dunvegan Head have just that. They can wander on the clifftops and contemplate to their hearts' content, in any direction they choose. This view just happens to be towards the Duirinish Peninsula, eastwards across the loch - but oh, what a choice they have!
I wish this shot had been sharper but I am still fairly pleased with it. It was taken handheld on a boat that was really rocking on the waters below the cliffs of Raasay . We had to cross the Raasay sound to find the birds and what a joy it was to see these magnificent raptors for the first time . Good that they are back in British skies after been extinct for almost a century . It was a good job I was using digital took over 120 shots and only three were usable not a good ratio
The UK’s largest bird of prey, the white-tailed eagle is sometimes known as the 'sea eagle', and preys on fish, mammals and small birds. It was persecuted to extinction in the UK, but reintroduced from Norway during the 1970s. Today, around 150 pairs now nest in Scotland. Both parents tend to the one or two chicks that hatch each year.
A massive and impressive bird of prey, the white-tailed eagle has broader wings than the golden eagle, with which it shares its home. Its wingspan is about eight feet. Adults have a white, wedge-shaped tail and a pale head with a yellow bill. They are more likely to be found near the coast than the golden eagle.

Coming out of Elgoy on the Isle of Skye one morning we came across a herd of Highland Cows grazing amongst the landscape. Quite happy for us to take photo's of them as we tried to not upset them. Wonderful animals with a very vibrant coloured coat.
Taken from the cliffs of Neist Point, looking across The Little Minch towards the Western Isles. I have it on good authority ( many thanks, Geraint!) that the land seen through the mist is the island of South Uist and the prominent hill is Hecla.
I'd love to visit the Outer Hebrides - one day....
Photos from a weekend in Scotland, 08-11 April 2022. On Mull, between Salen and Tobermory looking towards Tobermory, around five miles away.
Eas Mor - A dramatic waterfall on Allt Coire na Bannachdich, Eas Mor is dominated by the impressive backdrop of the Black Cuillin deep in scenic Glen Brittle. A lesser known location to its more famous Fairy Pools neighbour higher up the glen.
