Kilmarie | Isle of Skye | Highland | SCOTLAND

Loch Slapin, viewed from Kilmarie, is a sea loch renowned for its dramatic landscape and ecological richness on the Isle of Skye’s Strathaird Peninsula. Fringed by the imposing slopes of the Red and Black Cuillins, notably Bla Bheinn to the east, the loch offers panoramic vistas that shift with the light and weather. Its tidal shores near Kilmarie are frequented by wading birds and otters, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

The area’s geological features including ancient rock formations and coastal inlets, provide insight into Skye’s volcanic past, while nearby trails such as the route to Dun Ringill invite visitors to explore both natural and cultural heritage. This tranquil setting exemplifies the island’s blend of rugged beauty and historical depth, making Loch Slapin a compelling stop for reflective travel and outdoor exploration.

'Tis sunset: to the firmament serene,

The Atlantic wave reflects a gorgeous scene;

Broad in the cloudless west a belt of gold

Girds the blue hemisphere; above, unroll'd.

The keen clear air grows palpable to sight,

Imbodied in a flush of crimson light.

There is nothing to compare with watching the sun go down in a wild spot like this.

A last view over the little bay - this area still remains no. 1 spot for us. There are other albums on my flickr which are set in the same area.

The Oa is a wonderful place with precipitous cliffs and dramatic coastline. This is one of my favourite views.
