The church warden came out and lent me a book about the church. It used to be a swimming pool for army cadets!
Incredible experience sat underneath this pier in a gale with 3 m waves thundering onto beach and the swish of shingle. Salt spray slowly fogged up my glasses. A passing metal detectorist said to be carefull, the tide was coming in. I had to move up the beach and the perspective changed. I was surrounded by sheltering seabirds.
As I was sketching this, an orthodox procession walked past.
After I drew this, I noticed on the map print out I took with me, this was marked as something to draw.
Now that the fine weather is here, I've started my regime of cycling-and-sketching once again. It gives me a chance to do some good cardio exercising as well as finding some time to do a little sketching pleine air. On this first day I managed to cycle around 30 km and spend about a half hour sketching this scene on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. My sketching routine is to first outline the scene in pencil and then to start inking. Given my time restraints, I also take some photos of the scene and finish the inking later at my convenience at home. This system works for me - it gives me a chance to catch my breath when cycling, and it also puts something on my artistic to-do list. This scene, of course, is of Patterson Creek which I have sketched and painted several times in the past but mostly with winter scenes.

Cats in SOCKS! ...because fuzzy sock weather has arrived!
Diamine Steel Blue, Ancient Copper, Eau de Nil & Meadow, R&K Alt-Goldgrun & Noodler's Apache Sunset with , Iroshizuku tsutsuji & Platinum Carbon Black on Stillman & Birn, Zeta paper.
These were fenced in domesticated geese. The wild ones would have flown off as soon as I’d sit down to sketch.
Good that I had to stop at this point as my train was coming, the sketch may have been overworked if I had more time.
On Sunday 12th August I’ll be showing and selling my work along with other designers at Hirchhof Fest in Karlsruhe.

On a couple of occasions lately, I had some extra time on my hands while I was waiting to pickup my wife at one of her appointments. Both times, I took walks along the Rideau River in the Ottawa neighbourhood of Vanier and began sketching. The sketches focused on an island in the river known as Cummings Island but they were made from two different perspectives: the top one was from the Riveraine Park in Vanier and the bottom one was from Strathcona Park in Sandy Hill. The island has been abandoned for nearly 100 years but has an interesting history. Given the opportunity, maybe I can find other perspectives to sketch the island.
Ink drawings in a Leuchttrum 1917 sketchbook, about 20 x 13 cm (8 x 5 inches). The top one done with Micron pens and the bottom one done with a Jinhao fude pen with Platinum carbon black ink.
INKTOBER day 26: camera
James Bond with all his nifty tricks and electronics… wait… this is not Sean Connery! It’s George Lazenby in his one time role of James Bond! Look that up!
I tried to draw the gardeners and mini 3-wheeler van at a discrete distance but close enough to see enough detail. Just about managed it but the angle isn’t ideal. I wanted to show that the men were bigger than the van. They also wore the same colours in the same places as the van!
Just finished an excellent tour of the castle with a beefeater. While I was drawing this the next beefeater was doing his tour but it was a shouty version.
I filled in the black in a restaurant later. I asked the barman why they were playing the same sad jazz track in a loop. He said the state has said only sad music can be played as part of the mourning after the massacres.
