Mount Royal (French: mont Royal, IPA: [mɔ̃ ʁwajal]) is a hill in the city of Montreal, immediately west of downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the city to which it gave its name.
The hill is part of the Monteregian Hills situated between the Laurentians and the Appalachians. It gave its Latin name, Mons Regius, to the Monteregian chain.
The hill consists of three peaks: Colline de la Croix (or Mont Royal proper) at 233 m (764 ft), Colline d'Outremont (or Mount Murray, in the borough of Outremont) at 211 m (692 ft), and Westmount Summit at 201 m (659 ft) elevation above mean sea level.
The park contains two belvederes, the more prominent of which is the Kondiaronk Belvedere, a semicircular plaza with a chalet, overlooking downtown Montreal. Built in 1906, it is named for the Petun chief Kondiaronk, whose influence led to a major peace accord between the French, Iroquois and other First Nations in 1701. As of 2009, the Kondiaronk chalet's snack bar is being shuttered, with plans to replace it with healthier fare.
Other features of the park are Beaver Lake, a small artificial lake; a short ski slope; cross-country skiing trails; a sculpture garden; and Smith House, an interpretive centre. At the foot of the hill, overlooking Park Avenue, the park features George-Étienne Cartier Monument, home to the Tam Tams, and a gazebo which has been recently named in honour of Mordecai Richler.
The lush forest was badly damaged both by mayor Drapeau’s morality cuts (to remove any opportunity for people to have sex in the bushes) of the mid-1950s and by the Ice Storm of 1998, but has since largely recovered. The forest is a green jewel rising above downtown Montreal, and is known for its beautiful autumn foliage as well as extensive hiking and cross-country ski trails. A market town in the medieval period, Birmingham grew in the 18th century Midlands Enlightenment and subsequent Industrial Revolution, which saw advances in science, technology, and economic development, producing a series of innovations that laid many of the foundations of modern industrial society. Charles Dodgson, a mathematician at Christ Church, Oxford, first told his surreal story to the daughters of dean Henry Liddell as they rowed down the Thames.
After the boating trip, 10-year-old Alice Liddell badgered Dodgson to write it down and Alice in Wonderland - under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll - was born. The heroine follows a talking white rabbit, meets the Queen of Hearts and plays croquet using flamingos as mallets.
Since the 1960's there has been a trend for readers to identify an underlying drug theme in the book.

It's fascinating to me how our perception can be influenced by visual elements within a scene. In this case, the presence of a faint mountain on the right side of the image creates the illusion of a tilted horizon, even though it's perfectly level. This phenomenon occurs because our brains rely on visual cues to interpret spatial relationships. When a prominent feature like a mountain introduces asymmetry, it can lead to a misinterpretation of the horizon's alignment. You can think of such an element as a kind of weight, pushing that part of the image down.
This is actually a problem I find difficult to solve – at least in some cases. I wanted to include the mountain, but I was aware of the resulting illusion of a tilted horizon. When I rotated the image a few degrees counterclockwise, the horizon didn’t appear straightened but – to my big surprise – it "became" curved. Both the left and right outer edges of the horizon seemed to bend downward.
A new series starts today with an early morning road trip to Limon in eastern Colorado. The winter chill on the plains and some of the small rural towns that are slowly dying off made for some interesting moments.

Female Newscaster: The food bank is open until 6 PM for donations
Male Newscaster: In news abroad, 5 more disappearances were reported in the UK. Local authorities believe a common link is the time of the disappearances, around 9 PM. This seems to coincide with other vanishings in several European countries.
(Feeling nostalgic, Nicole chooses a rerun of a sitcom that was popular when she was in high school, getting comfortable on the couch. A large golden tabby with black stripes leaps up, beside her, purring loudly.)
Nicole: Okay, you can sit up here, but you have to be a good boy. (the cat lightly bites her finger, settling atop her legs) I love you, too. (smiles, scratching under his chin)
(Time passes, and Nicole's phone plays the opening notes of "Viva la Vida." She answers.)
Nicole: Hi. (teases) Not still at the office, are you?
Sean: No way. I am about to head for the front door. Just need you to open it, please. Got an armload of Italian.
Nicole: That sounds like something I should be jealous of. (laughs) Be right there. As soon as I get The Cat off my legs.
Sean: See you in a minute. (disconnects)
(Nicole slides The Cat off her legs, and he looks mildly insulted, then she stretches and crosses to the front door, calling down the hall.)
Nicole: Kiley! Dad's home! (she hears a cheer from the girls and smiles, opening the front door and quickly moving to help her husband with the bags of food) How much extra food did you get for Skyler? (jokes, bring the bags to the kitchen table)

Influenced and shaped by changing climates and human activity, Abergwesyn Commons in Powys is anything but a static landscape. Today you can walk in this vast and wild place, but for thousands of years people lived all over the uplands and Abergwesyn has been home to farms, churches and ritual sites throughout the ages.
Aruba, a small island in the Dutch Caribbean off the coast of Venezuela, has a dry climate, sunny beaches and gentle waves. Constant winds produce a cool breeze and tilt trees (like the famous divi-divi) to the southwest. The European influence appears in the architecture, characterized by the Dutch gables painted in tropical pastel tones. This is also evident in the coexistence of the local language, Papiamento, with English, Dutch and Spanish. The country does not have fresh water but it has desalinated water of excellent quality and you can safely drink tap water. The small country is a major producer and exporter of aloe vera (aloe vera) and is strong in the financial and fishing sectors, in addition to logistical services in the oil sector. It is a small island with a lot of sun and wind all the time, which favors the country's main economic activity, tourism. Its area is 179 km2 (69.1 mi2) and is densely populated by approximately 110,000 inhabitants (2020 Census) and has a per capita income of just over US$25,000 p.a. The country's capital is Oranjestad.
