Some of the churches in the Barossa seem to have been built in the middle of nowhere, as this one, Gruenberg Lutheran Church was. The main church building may be plain but the bell tower and steeple at the front are far from it.
Giovanni Battista Landolina, marquis de San Alfano, était un aristocrate sicilien de la fin du XVIIe siècle, un intellectuel et un grand propriétaire terrien, qui se révéla un urbaniste exceptionnel, lorsqu'il fut question de reconstruire la ville de Noto, détruite par un tremblement de terre en 1693.
L'influence de Giovanni Battista Landolina fut déterminante lors de la reconstruction de la ville de Noto sur un nouvel emplacement, après la destruction de l'ancien site du mont Alveria par le séisme de 1693. Une place de la ville porte aujourd'hui son nom.
Le pouvoir de décision quant à la reconstruction de la Sicile appartenait alors au vice-roi espagnol, le duc de Camastra. Toutefois Landolina parvint à convaincre ce dernier de reconstruire une nouvelle ville à plus de dix kilomètres de l'ancien site. On lui doit la planification de la future cité avec l'aide de trois architectes locaux.
La vision urbaniste de Landolina s'inspirait fortement du mouvement baroque, en séparant les différents quartiers selon le rang social de chacun et en reléguant les plus pauvres à la périphérie. Plus tard, les architectes Giovanni Battista Vaccarini et Rosario Gagliardi édifièrent un grand nombre de bâtiments à Noto. L'autorité de Landolina fut brisée lorsqu'en 1730, son fils Francesco Landolina, marquis de San Alfano, édifia son propre palais, le Palazzo Landolina, dans le centre-ville et à proximité de la nouvelle cathédrale.
Aujourd'hui, Noto constitue une importante destination touristique grâce à ses nombreux bâtiments typiques du Baroque sicilien, construits du temps de Landolina.
Giovanni Battista Landolina, Marquis of San Alfano, was a Sicilian aristocrat from the end of the 17th century, an intellectual and a great landowner, who turned out to be an exceptional town planner when it came to rebuilding the town of Noto, destroyed by a earthquake in 1693.
The influence of Giovanni Battista Landolina was decisive during the reconstruction of the city of Noto on a new site, after the destruction of the old site of Mount Alveria by the earthquake of 1693. A town square today bears its last name.
The power to decide on the reconstruction of Sicily then belonged to the Spanish viceroy, the Duke of Camastra. However Landolina managed to convince the latter to rebuild a new city more than ten kilometers from the old site. He is responsible for planning the future city with the help of three local architects.
Landolina's urban vision was strongly inspired by the Baroque movement, by separating the different districts according to the social rank of each and by relegating the poorest to the periphery. Later, the architects Giovanni Battista Vaccarini and Rosario Gagliardi built a large number of buildings in Noto. Landolina's authority was shattered when in 1730 his son Francesco Landolina, Marquis of San Alfano, built his own palace, Palazzo Landolina, in the city center and near the new cathedral.
Today, Noto constitutes an important tourist destination thanks to its numerous buildings typical of the Sicilian Baroque, built in the time of Landolina.

The new, but somewhat temporary lights on the Bay Bridge are almost mesmerizing to watch. The display is only up for the next two years. Although the computer generated patterns repeat over the course of a few minutes, each visit brings different conditions for which to view them. The fog layer was very low here creating a canopy of light to set off another lovely Bay Area evening.

Kiley: Mixed with our cosmetics. It's a transformation, Mom, remember?
Nicole: (lowers the bottles) It looks like cherry cough syrup. (takes out one stopper and sniffs) Smells like it, too.
Skyler: That's what I said!
Sean: (returns to the table) I told Pete what we heard, what Liz said. He said he'd check on things and get back to me. (Nicole hands him a vial.) What's this?
Nicole: You tell me.
Sean: (he examines the vial, then sniffs it) Cherry cough syrup?
Skyler: That's what we said! (pointing between herself and Nicole)
Nicole: I was worried it could be drugs. (to Sean, taking the vial, and handing both back to Kiley) But I think it's just a scam.
Kiley: Mia wouldn't sell us drugs, Mom! (seeming actually aghast at the thought)
Skyler: And she wouldn't rip us off, either! We've seen people before and after the transformation! It works!
Nicole: Can I see one of these transformations? (she watches Kiley and Skyler exchange a look)
Kiley: (shrugs) Sure.

Nicole: Liz, what's wrong? (Sean rises from the table, crossing to the couch. Nicole shakes her head at him.) Liz?
Liz: It sounds like they're, like they're tearing up the sheets or something. Tami and Trish Baxter, if you're trashing that hotel room I'm going to make your work it off as hotel maids!
Nicole: (to Sean) She says it sounds like the girls are trashing their room.
Kiley: It's okay, Mom. I think they just started their transformation. Florida's three hours ahead, right?
Nicole: (looks at her phone, where the time is changing from 6:10 to 6:11) Liz, Kiley says the transformation started at nine-ten.
Liz: If you could hear them you wouldn't be so calm. Listen.
(There's a scraping sort of noise and Nicole realizes Liz has turned her phone to the door of the room where her girls are staying. Nicole's eyes go wide and she puts the phone on speaker so that Sean can hear the sounds as well. Gasping sounds, cloth ripping, heavy thuds like fists or feet on the floor, pounding as if they were trying to break through the floor.)

Kiley: Dad! (pelts down the hall to hug Sean)
Skyler: Mr. Davis! (in a joke since childhood, also pelts down the hall to hug Sean, her substitute father since her own dad passed away in a tragic car accident when Skyler was only four-years-old.)
Sean: (chuckles, one arm around each girl) I know, it's the smell of garlic bread.
(Everyone laughs, and makes varying remarks that are a little rude, but teasing. Passing out their various meals, they settle at the table for a dinner of happy conversation. It's nearly 6 PM, and dinner is essentially finished, when "Viva la Vida" summons Nicole to her phone, laying on the arm of the couch. She answers it, standing by the couch near The Cat.)
Another moment, captured fourteen years ago. To myself it just brings back good memories! I know it is a big contrast to my previous upload, but that`s life; full of contrasts. As long as we`re aware of it all and don`t forget there are things in this world that will make us sad, frustrated, touched, or angry... as well as there are things that will make us smile, laugh and see the beauty of life. Hopefully the brighter infuences can make us do something about life`s darker sides?

Thai culture, strongly influenced by Buddhism (at least in the parts of the country I've visited so far), is one of the reasons why I'm so enthusiastic about this country.
And so it's no coincidence that I visited so many temples during my trip in October.
Some, of course, because of their location ore for their beautiful architecture, but others, like Wat Pa Tha Makham in Ratchaburi, were for me to delve deeper into the spiritual aspect of these places.
And so, in the coming months and years, I hope to learn much more about Buddhism and the Buddhist perspective on the world and life.
And no, this photo isn't staged. I simply took advantage of an opportunity to capture this scene.
Die Thailändische Kultur, stark geprägt vom Buddhismus (zumindest in den Landesteilen, in denen ich bisher war), ist einer der Gründe, warum ich von diesem Land so begeistert bin.
Und so ist es auch kein Zufall, dass ich bei meiner Reise im Oktober so viele Tempel besucht habe.
Manche natürlich wegen ihrer Lage oder der wunderschönen Architektur doch andere, wie hier den Wat Pa Tha Makham in Ratchaburi um mich mehr mit dem spirituellen Aspekt dieser Ort auseinander zu setzen.
Und so hoffe ich in den nächsten Monaten und Jahren noch viel mehr über den Buddhismus und die buddhistische Sichweise auf die Welt und das Leben lernen zu können.
Und nein, dieses Foto ist nicht gestellt. Ich hab nur eine Gelegenheit genutzt, um diese Szene festzuhalten.

The bamboo, symbolizing strength and resilience, is a nod to the Huntington’s East Asian garden influences, while the pond remains a timeless haven for aquatic flora and wildlife.
This scene, blending history, nature, and art, reflects the Huntington’s enduring legacy—a place where beauty and knowledge intertwine.

Bruckner ‘was an Austrian composer of the Romantic period as well as an organist and university teacher. Skyler: I'd be surprised if everybody 21 and under wasn't following her.
Nicole: Too cool for people my age? (jokes)
Skyler: Oh, no, Mrs. Davis! It's just that the activation formula doesn't work on people over 21. (shrugs) Don't know why.
Nicole: I guess I'll have to muddle through, looking the way I do.
Kiley: Don't worry, Mom. You're still the mom all the boys I go to school with talk about.
Nicole: That's disturbing.

Faithful to the heritage of conceptual art, fascinated by land art and especially by Robert Smithson, influenced by Olafur Eliasson’s teaching at the Institut für Raumexperimente in Berlin, Julian Charrière sets in motion research processes that give rise to performances, photographic records, films and installations.
His materials, including decaying organic matter, cryogenically frozen plants, sediment and salt bricks reflect particular times and spaces, both as tangible traces of what he calls a ‘geology of history’ and as explorations of humanity’s interdependent relationship with our environment.
Pacific Fiction – Study for Monument is one of a set of works created by Charrière following his exploration of the Marshall Islands and the Bikini atoll, part of his research into former nuclear testing sites as dystopian places par excellence.
The United States test-fired nearly seventy nuclear bombs in the Marshall Islands from 1946 to 1958, including Castle Bravo, the single most powerful H-bomb, which wiped two islands from the map.
Pacific Fiction, a pyramid of coconuts encased in lead, can be read as the model for a future memorial. The coconuts refer to the etymology of the Bikini atoll, which takes its name from the local Melanesian name ‘Pikinni’, ‘pik’ meaning ‘surface’ and ‘ni’ meaning ‘coconut palm’. The lead is used for its physical property of withstanding radiation. While the pile of coconuts echoes a stock of cannon balls, the work’s pyramid shape and its subtitle, Study for Monument, also conjure up images of a tomb, Egyptian pyramids, the architecture of the bunkers on the Bikini atoll shoreline, and the angular iron monoliths that slumber in the depths of the Pacific.
