Buff Breasted Sandpiper - Calidris subruficollis
A delicate dove-headed shorebird, the Buff-breasted Sandpiper is found primarily in migration in areas of short grass. It migrates primarily through the middle of the American continent from its arctic breeding grounds to southern South America.
The Buff-breasted Sandpiper is unique among North American shorebirds in having a lek mating system. Males defend relatively small territories that provide no resources for females and are simply display sites to which females can be attracted. Females select a mate and then leave to nest and raise their chicks elsewhere.
It migrates mainly through central North America, and is uncommon on the coasts. It occurs as a regular wanderer to western Europe, and is not classed as rare in Great Britain or Ireland, where small flocks have occurred. Only the pectoral sandpiper is a more common American shorebird visitor to Europe.
This species nests as far north as Canada including Alaska on the ground, laying four eggs. The male has a display which includes raising the wings to display the white undersides, which is also given on migration, sometimes when no other buff-breasted sandpipers are present. Outside the breeding season, this bird is normally found on short-grass habitats such as airfields or golf-courses, rather than near water.

The Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing, also called the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge and Second Narrows Bridge, is the second bridge constructed at the Second (east) Narrows of Burrard Inlet in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Originally named the Second Narrows Bridge, it connects Vancouver to the North Shore of Burrard Inlet, which includes the District of North Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver, and West Vancouver. It was constructed adjacent to the older Second Narrows Bridge, which is now exclusively a rail bridge. Its construction, from 1956 to 1960, was marred by a multi-death collapse on June 17, 1958. The First Narrows Bridge, better known as Lions Gate Bridge, crosses Burrard Inlet about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of the Second Narrows.

Marina City, affectionately known as "the corn cob", is a mixed-use residential-commercial building complex in Chicago, Illinois, United States, North America, designed by architect Bertrand Goldberg. The multi-building complex opened between 1963 and 1967 and occupies almost an entire city block on State Street on the north bank of the Chicago River on the Near North Side, directly across from the Loop. Portions of the complex were designated a Chicago Landmark in 2016.
The complex consists of two 587-foot (179 m), 65-story apartment towers, opened in 1963, which include physical plant penthouses. It also includes a 10-story office building (now a hotel) opened in 1964, and a saddle-shaped auditorium building originally used as a cinema. The four buildings, access driveways, and a small plaza that originally included an ice rink are built on a raised platform next to the Chicago River. Beneath the platform, at river level, is a small marina for pleasure craft, giving the structures their name.

Sensō-ji, is an ancient Buddhist temple in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. It is Tokyo's oldest-established temple, and one of its most significant. It is dedicated to Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion. Structures in the temple complex include the main hall, a five-story pagoda and large gates. It is the most widely visited religious site in the world with over 30 million visitors annually. The temple is the 13th stop on the Bandō Sanjūsankasho pilgrimage route.
The temple was destroyed during a 10 March 1945 firebombing air raid on Tokyo during World War II. The main hall was rebuilt in the 1950s. Formerly associated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism, the temple became independent in 1950 after the war. Leading to it is Nakamise-dōri street, containing many shops with traditional goods. Adjacent to the east of Sensō-ji is the Asakusa Shrine of the Shinto religion.
The origins of Sensō-ji are uncertain. According to legends found in sources such as the "Sensō Engi", the temple began in the Asuka period when the brothers Hinokuma Hamanari and Takenari discovered a statue of Kannon while fishing in the Sumida River in 628. The headman of their village, Haji no Nakatomo became a monk and converted his home into a temple. In 645, a monk named Katsumi renovated the temple and, following a revelation in a dream, designated the statue as a hibutsu image. The statue is said to be made of gold and measuring approximately 5.5 centimeters in height, but its true details is unknown as it is never displayed to the public. If this account is true, it would make Sensō-ji the oldest-established temple in Tokyo. In 857, during the early Heian period and in 828, Ennin visited the temple and carved a maedachi Kannon statue (a statue for people to worship in place of the secret image). In 942, when Taira no Kinmasa was appointed Musashi-no-kami, he renovated the shichidō garan, and the Kaminarimon Gate and Niōmon Gate were constructed at this time.
However, the first documented reference to Sensō-ji is in the Kamakura-period "Azuma Kagami." According to this chronicle, in 1181, carpenters were called in by Minamoto no Yoritomo from Asakusa to build Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū in Kamakura. Additionally, in 1192, monks from Sensō-ji participated in the 49th day memorial service for Emperor Goshirakawa held at Shōchōjū-in in Kamakura. Lady Nijō described her visit to Sensō-ji in her Towazugatari in 1290. In 1590, Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was in Edo, designated Senso-ji as an official place of prayer for the shogunate and granted the temple 500 koku of land.. Sensō-ji's buildings had burned down many times before theEdo period, and after the start of the Tokugawa shogunate, they were destroyed by fire twice, in 1631 and 1642. However, with the assistance of the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, the five-story pagoda was rebuilt in 1648 and the main hall in 1649. In 1685, shops that would become "Nakamise" were established on the main approach to the temple. The temple granted these businesses permission in exchange for charging local residents for cleaning the grounds. By the mid-Edo period, street performances and other events began to take place in the area at the back west of the temple grounds, commonly known as "Okuyama," and the temple grounds became a place of entertainment for the common people. Between 1843 and the following year, the three Edo theaters moved to Asakusa, further strengthening this trend.
Asakusa continued to thrive as a popular entertainment and entertainment district into the Meiji period. In 1873, much of the temple grounds were designated as Asakusa Park. In 1890, the 12-story Ryōunkaku (commonly known as the "Asakusa Twelve-Story Tower"), a commercial facility and observation tower, was completed. While much of the Asakusa district was destroyed in the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake, a local construction master led the evacuees within the temple grounds in a bucket brigade firefighting operation, limiting damage to only a few buildings at Sensō-ji. However, the main hall (Kannon Hall), a former national treasure, and the five-story pagoda were destroyed in the 10 March 1945 firebombing air raid on Tokyo. The main hall was rebuilt in 1951–58 The temple now has a titanium tiled roof that maintains a historic image but is stronger and lighter. The Kaminarimon gate was rebuilt in 1960, the Hōzōmon gate in 1964, and the pagoda in 1973. After World War II, Asakusa temporarily declined due to the diversification of entertainment options and the development of other entertainment districts in Tokyo. However, thanks to efforts by the local shopping district, it gradually regained its former vitality and has become a representative tourist destination in Tokyo as a town that retains its old-fashioned atmosphere, with annual events such as the Hagoita Market and Hozuki Market attracting large crowds.

Large and trumpet-shaped, the Hibiscus flower comes in a kaleidoscope of bright colors from white to pink, red, blue, orange, peach, yellow, and purple. It's in the Malvaceae family, which includes hollyhocks and okra. The several hundred species of hibiscus are native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical climatic regions. This tropical hibiscus (or Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis, Chinese hibiscus or Hawaiian hibiscus) produces showy blooms from spring through autumn, provided they get plenty of sunlight.

McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, CA
The paradise known as Burney Falls includes two main cataracts that thunderously pour over a cliff, and springs that ooze out porous canyon walls. Shown here is the right side of the falls, the left side is like a mirror image of the right. The water comes from underground springs at and above the falls, and provides a nearly constant flow rate of 195 cu ft/sec. The falls are 114 ft high and 250 ft wide. Impressed by their beauty, former US President Theodore Roosevelt called them “the Eighth Wonder of the World.”
Bob Sorrell was an automotive designer and builder of the 1950s. His work includes building land speed racers, show cars, drag racers, hot rods, customs, and tether cars. His fiberglass creations were outrageous and memorable, the earliest being the SR-100 roadster. It was a Sorrell original design that was unique and creative with its unified fender-to-body expression and envelope-design.
The Sorrell-Larkin SR-200 began life as a Lister-Chevrolet. In 1960 it was involved in a tragic accident at the Los Angeles Times Grand Prix at Riverside. The wreckage was acquired by Bob Sorrell and had it brought back to his shop, where he and Jim Larkin shared space. The car required extensive modifications to the frame and many other mechanical components. A fiberglass body finished in patriotic colors was carefully and expertly crafted, and based on past Sorrell designs (the SR-100).
It was involved in another crash at Riverside in 1962, close to where the Lister had come to a rest in 1960. This time, an extensive fire transformed the wreckage into ash. The car was totally destroyed. The blaze was so intense that track workers had to use a skid loader to cover the flaming wreckage in dirt. This SR-200 was reincarnated by the original builders, Mike and Jim Larkin, who used the original models and technology they developed back in the late 1950s. After the original designer, Bob Sorrell, passed in 2003, they replicated a car that no longer existed. The original SR-200 raced twice at the Riverside Raceway, once in 1961, then again at a Cal Club race in 1962, where it was destroyed by fire in a crash. Unable to extinguish the fire, which has spread to the magnesium wheels, a skip-loader was brought in and the car was buried where it sat, at Turn 1. Everyone, including the Larkin brothers, believed to this day that the car still lie buried under what is now condos.
Since it took almost ten years for the Larkin brothers to finish this project, advancing age and health issues evolved which prevented the brothers from going racing with their SR-200. In late 2013, Mike Larkin sold the project to Wes Abendroth. Wes has been racing and restoring specials for over twenty years and, after working on the Sorrell for three months, he was able to put it in the proper livery for vintage racing.

The tower includes elements of traditional Islamic architecture and southwestern Asian design. Elizabeth Lambourn's Islam Beyond Empires: Mosques and Islamic Landscapes in India and the Indian Ocean studies the introduction of Islam in South Asia and how the region influenced the Islamic religious architecture. These newly arrived Muslims from the Islamic West escaped the Mongol Empire and emigrated to India, where they constructed religious centers. The Qutb Minar serves as a central marker to these new Muslim communities as well as being a reminder of Islam's presence in the area. The architecture of the minaret varies greatly from that of the typical style and design of the mosques constructed in the Middle East. The style of these structures is influenced by the local architecture such as the Indic temples. This affected the different materials, techniques, and decoration that were used in the construction of the Qutb Minar.
Historically, tower minarets were uncommon in South Asian-Islamic design until the 17th century, due to the slow adoption of the typical Middle Eastern style in India. It is also detached from the main mosque, showcasing how the native culture affected the design of a Middle Eastern structure. The Qutb Minar is seen as the "earliest and best example of a fusion or synthesis of Hindu-Muslim traditions" according to Ved Parkash in his essay The Qutb Minar from Contemporary and Near Contemporary Sources. Like many mosques built in South Asia during this time period, the minaret was constructed by Hindu laborers and craftsmen but overseen by Muslim architects. This led to a construction that synthesized both Hindu and Islamic religious architecture. Since some of the craftsmen were Hindu and unfamiliar with the Quran, the inscriptions are a compilation of disarranged Quranic texts and other Arabic expressions.

Between 8 1/2 to 11 3/4 inches in length. Reddish brown above with a white belly. 1 white stripe bordered by 2 black stripes on sides ending at the rump. 2 white stripes on back nuch thinner than side stripes. Dark center stripe down the back. Pale facial stripes above and below the eyes. Tail brown on tip and edged with black. Prominent ears.
The Eastern Chipmunk's habitat includes open deciduous woodlands, forest edges, brushy areas, bushes and stone walls in cemeteries and around houses.
They range from southeastern Canada and the north-eastern U.S. east from North Dakota and eastern Oklahoma and south to Missisippi, northwest Carolina and Virginia.

The Cumberland Gap includes this gem, the Gap Cave. Many may know it by its older name Cudjo's Caverns. It was once Gap cave but was chanced to Cudjo's Caverns after a popular book came out that features a cave called Cudjos. The owners tried to capitalize on the popularity by changing the name. When the NPS took over the site they changed it back. It hard to believe the cave looks as good as it does inside when you learn the past. Loads of tourists through here at a time when preservation was not understood, and they held parties and even plays down there!
This is one of the larger features in the cave. It was a pain to shoot because you were on a tour, so you can't stop, there is no lighting, only these massive bright flashlights that EVERYONE has, and the tour guide is always in the way. Oh, and no tripods allowed. So this is the result of several images to exclude beams of light and hot spots, and people. Oh, and thank goodness for the new lightroom denoise feature. This was 10,000 ISO for goodness sake. Came out pretty good considering all that nonsense.

Very calm pony allowed me to get close enough to take an image from interesting perspective. Really wanted to include the dark foreboding skies to add to the drama. This image was always going to be black and white, though the pony had amazing blue eyes.
Tufted Titmouse.
Sparrow-sized at 6 inches. Gray above and whitish below, with rust colored sides and a conspicuous gray crest. The "Black-crested Titmouse", a species found in southwestern Oklahoma and Texas is similar but has a black crest.
Their habitat includes swampy or moist woodlands, and shade trees in villages and city parks. In winter, at feeders.
They range from eastern Nebraska, southern Michigan, and Maine south to Texas, the Gulf Coast and central Florida.

This bird is parked on one of the photo props placed near our fountain, and is showing off its full breeding plumage colors. It is one of the easier of the many Spizella sparrows to ID. The several Spizella sparrows can be more difficult to ID when in non-breeding plumage. It is especially challenging when there are mixed flocks that include juveniles. During such periods I find that photography is the surest method of later IDing individual sparrows in this family.

The peafowl include two Asiatic bird species (the blue or Indian peafowl originally of India and Sri Lanka and the green peafowl of Myanmar, Indochina, and Java) and one African species (the Congo peafowl native only to the Congo Basin) of birds in the genera Pavo and Afropavo of the Phasianidae family, the pheasants and their allies, known for the male's piercing call and, among the Asiatic species, his extravagant eye-spotted tail covert feathers which he displays as part of a courtship ritual. The term peacock is properly reserved for the male; the female is known as a peahen, and the immature offspring are sometimes called peachicks
Occasionally, peafowl appear with white plumage. Although albino peafowl do exist, this is quite rare and almost all white peafowl are not, in fact, albinos; they have a different condition called leucism which causes an overall reduction in different types of pigment. This can result in the complete lack of coloration of their plumage, while preserving normal eye colour. By contrast, true albino peafowl have a complete lack of melanin, resulting in the albino's characteristic red or pink eyes. These beautiful and rugged mountains include the Ventana Wilderness Area along the central California coast. The Ventana Wilderness is characterized by steep-sided, sharp-crested ridges separating V-shaped youthful valleys. Most streams fall rapidly through narrow, vertical-walled canyons over bedrock or a veneer of boulders. Waterfalls, deep pools and thermal springs are found along major streams.
Elevations range from 600 feet (180 m), where the Big Sur River leaves the Wilderness, to about 5,750 feet (1,750 m); this photo was taken at about 1,500 feet (460 m).
