Waterfowl, which includes ducks, geese, and swans, crossbreed more often than any other family of birds. Scientists have recorded more than 400 hybrid combinations among waterfowl species. Mallards and wood ducks in particular have demonstrated the capability of hybridizing with a surprisingly wide range of other species. In North America, one of the most common wild hybrids results from the mallard/pintail breeding. Mallards also commonly crossbreed with black ducks, wigeon, shovelers, cinnamon teal, green-winged teal, and gadwalls. (ducks.org) I saw this beauty in Lexington, Kentucky. I am not sure what type of Mallard hybrid cross this is and am open to suggestions...

Santa María la Blanca, Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha, España.
Santa María la Blanca es un templo ubicado en la ciudad española de Toledo. Construida en el 1180 como sinagoga y, habiendo funcionado como tal durante 211 años, fue expropiada y transformada en iglesia como consecuencia del pogromo de 1391. En la actualidad el edificio pertenece a la Iglesia católica, pero no se realiza culto en él. Se encuentra abierto al público y funciona como museo o centro en el que se desarrollan actividades tanto culturales como educativas.
Construido en 1180 (según testimonia la inscripción visible en una de sus vigas), este edificio mudéjar posee cinco naves separadas por pilares sobre los que descansan arcos de herradura. Si bien existe cierto contraste entre la sobriedad del exterior de la sinagoga y su elaborado interior, el edificio presenta no poca austeridad. Conforme a la tradición oriental, el mismo 'vive' hacia el interior. Esta sinagoga tuvo considerable influencia sobre otras sinagogas españolas; tal es el caso, por ejemplo, de la sinagoga de Segovia.
Se trata de una construcción mudéjar, creada por canteros musulmanes. Sus elementos de arquitectura incluyen paredes blancas y lisas, hechas de ladrillo, arcos de herradura y pilares octogonales, decoración geométrica en los frisos y vegetal en los capiteles de los pilares. Todas estas características y la distribución de los espacios, con sus naves formadas por la sucesión de arcos de herradura soportados por pilares, tienden a recordar la tipología propia de una mezquita. La articulación interior y estilo morisco de Santa María la Blanca han servido de modelo para importantes sinagogas europeas y americanas del siglo XIX.
Los 32 pilares de este templo son de ladrillo recubierto por cemento y cal. Ornados de piñas y volutas, sus capiteles denotan influencia del arte románico. Por encima de los arcos de herradura prevalece la ornamentación abstracta en frisos horizontales que incluye molduras con delicados motivos basados en la interacción de líneas y medallones. Los entrelazados geométricos formados por las líneas son de origen almohade.
Santa María la Blanca is a temple located in the Spanish city of Toledo. Built in 1180 as a synagogue, and having functioned as such for 211 years, it was expropriated and transformed into a church as a result of the pogrom of 1391. Although there is a certain contrast between the sobriety of the synagogue's exterior and its elaborate interior, the building is not without austerity. In accordance with Eastern tradition, it 'lives' towards the interior. This synagogue had considerable influence on other Spanish synagogues; such is the case, for example, of the synagogue of Segovia.
This is a Mudejar construction, created by Muslim stonemasons. Its architectural elements include smooth white brick walls, horseshoe arches and octagonal pillars, geometric decoration on the friezes and plant decoration on the capitals of the pillars. All these characteristics and the distribution of the spaces, with its naves formed by the succession of horseshoe arches supported by pillars, tend to recall the typology of a mosque. The interior articulation and Moorish style of Santa María la Blanca have served as a model for important European and American synagogues of the 19th century.
The 32 pillars of this temple are made of brick covered with cement and lime. Decorated with pine cones and volutes, their capitals denote the influence of Romanesque art. Above the horseshoe arches, abstract ornamentation prevails in horizontal friezes that include moldings with delicate motifs based on the interaction of lines and medallions. The geometric interlacing formed by the lines is of Almohad origin.

Bloomington architect George Miller designed this beautiful Queen Anne style house for Edward & Ora Gridley in 1885. Edward Gridley was the son of Asahel Gridley, a local land developer and attorney. The house was preserved by Alice Light McTurnan, whose family lived here from 1904 to 1996.
The Edward & Ora Gridley House is a contributing property in Bloomington's East Grove Street District. This residential historic district includes 43 houses and apartment buildings, 25 of which are considered contributing buildings. The houses in the district were built between 1855 and 1915 for many of Bloomington's upper middle class residents. Due to a building boom between 1880 and 1900, the then-popular Queen Anne style is the most prevalent in the district. Other popular architectural styles in the district include Greek Revival homes from the 1850s, Italianate homes built between 1860 and 1880, and Arts and Crafts homes built in the 1900s. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1987.
Bloomington is the seat of McLean County. It is adjacent to Normal, and is the more populous of the two principal municipalities of the Bloomington-Normal metropolitan area. Bloomington is 135 miles (217 km) southwest of Chicago, and 162 miles (261 km) northeast of St. Louis. The estimated population of Bloomington in 2019 was 77,330, with a metro population of 191,067.

This piece is a part of my Vanity project which shows and/or includes my hand/s as my rendition of a self portrait because I choose to show who I really am through every lines of my hands.
Morning light shines on the upper reaches of the South St Vrain drainage. The peaks include (l to r) the knob of Navajo Peak, Apache Peak, and Shoshoni Peak. A steady wind blowing off these peaks which make up the Continental Divide rolls across Lake Isabel in the lower left.
Recently I was on a city break in Madrid. This is the Temple of Debod or Egyptian Monument. From here you have great views (be sure to pack your long lens). The include Royal palace and Cathedral.

Villoslada de Cameros es un municipio y localidad española de la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja. El término municipal, ubicado en la comarca de Cameros, tiene una población de 348 habitantes (INE 2023).
Está integrado en la comarca de Cameros, concretamente en la subcomarca de Camero Nuevo, situándose a 50 km de Logroño por la carretera N-111, que atraviesa el término municipal en el kilómetro 286.
El extenso término municipal ocupa buena parte de la cara norte de la Sierra Cebollera, que incluye el parque natural del mismo nombre. El río Iregua, que nace en el territorio, forma un profundo valle en su descenso de sur a norte, recibiendo el aporte de los numerosos arroyos de la zona y del río Mayor. Por el oeste, las sierras de Frihuela y Castejón, integradas en el Sistema Ibérico, hacen de límite, junto con la Sierra Cebollera al sur, con la provincia de Soria. En Villoslada hay un centro de interpretación del parque natural de la Sierra de Cebollera.
El techo del municipio es una enorme planicie llamada La Mesa (2168 m) que comparte con Lumbreras de Cameros. El segundo punto más elevado, que da nombre a la sierra, es el pico Cebollera (2141 m), compartido con los municipios de El Royo y Sotillo del Rincón. El núcleo urbano se alza a 1072 m sobre el nivel del mar.
Villoslada de Cameros is a municipality and town in the autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain. The municipality, located in the region of Cameros, has a population of 348 inhabitants (INE 2023).
It is part of the region of Cameros, specifically in the sub-region of Camero Nuevo, located 50 km from Logroño on the N-111 road, which crosses the municipal area at kilometre 286.

Normally I don't include people in 99% of my photos as i do a lot of long exposure or wait till they are gone, but in this sceen I decided to keep them in the image in order to show a little perspective on how tall this waterfall really is. Can you find all 18 tourists? Seljalandsfoss is one of the best known waterfalls in Iceland and is located in the South Region in Iceland along Route 1. The waterfall drops 60 m (197 ft) and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull. One of the interesting things that I liked about this waterfall is you can walk behind it. I just wish the weather would have been a little better as it rained the whole time we were there and it was a challenge to keep the lens clean.

It was such a wild morning when we went round the corner from Vestrahorn. It was one of those days where you had to park pointing into the wind otherwise you would lose your doors if the wind caught them. But having that forethought, unfortunately, that just meant you had to fight to open the door against the force of nature's fury.
We did manage to get out and stagger about on the headland next to the orange Hvalnes lighthouse that stands like the headstrong bridge structure of an oceangoing tug.
But seeking an image of black and white stripy beach we headed down to the strand that stretches as far as the eye can see, and is a feature of about half of Iceland's southern coast.
I did take a brief phone pano, and it looks good, but I also tried a four frame pano with the Nikon which is better in some respects, but less so in others. I should have made it five frames wide to include a bit more of the sea to the left. But, hey ho, you live and learn!
I see Gary had a wander on the black sand, but seems to have gone and hidden behind a rock again.
It was only a few hundred yards back to the car, but it was one of the most exhausting walks I can remember fighting uphill into that wind on deep loose black gravel. Rarely have I been more grateful to get back in a car!

Hi girlies, here is my new Hairbase "Jennifer", this product is part of a TRES BEAU collaboration between NONNATIVE and GOREGLAM. I'm using Lelutka's Avalon Head in this photo.
I made this product in Baked On Mesh (BOM) and it has 10 colors to choose from. It also includes two Tintable versions for you to tint in any color you desire. The point of creating this product was to reduce the forehead and use it with different hairs, I hope you like it.

What is there to discuss for a long time? Let it into the group :-)) It doesn't matter that one has a dark fur. This is the "cute" version of the topic that I later implemented with the goggle eyes. Sheep as really very small magnets, which look a lot like the gang around Shaun – on a mighty green meadow specially created for them, the floor of which is made of metal (nobody can run away like this) ... And of course the black sheep couldn't be missing ;-) I didn't mean to withhold them, aren't they lovable?

Was gibt es da lange zu diskutieren? Lasst es hinein in die Runde :-)) Da tut es nichts zur Sache, dass das eine ein dunkles Fell sein eigen nennt. Dies ist die "niedliche" Version zum Thema, dass ich dann später noch mit den Glotzaugen umgesetzt hatte. Schafe als wirklich sehr kleine Magnete, die der Bande um Shaun ziemlich ähnlich sehen – auf einer eigens für sie geschaffenen mächtig grünen Wiese, deren Boden aus Metall besteht (so kann niemand weglaufen) ... Und natürlich durfte das schwarze Schaf nicht fehlen ;-) Ich wollte sie nicht vorenthalten, sind sie nicht herzallerliebst?

Cuckoo - Cuculus Canorus

The common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, Cuculiformes, which includes the roadrunners, the anis and the coucals.
This species is a widespread summer migrant to Europe and Asia, and winters in Africa. It is a brood parasite, which means it lays eggs in the nests of other bird species, particularly of dunnocks, meadow pipits, and reed warblers. Although its eggs are larger than those of its hosts, the eggs in each type of host nest resemble the host's eggs. The adult too is a mimic, e that species is a predator, the mimicry gives the female time to lay her eggs without being seen to do so.
The English word "cuckoo" comes from the Old French cucu and it first appears about 1240 in the poem Sumer Is Icumen In - "Summer has come in / Loudly sing, Cuckoo!" in modern English.
The scientific name is from Latin. Cuculus is "cuckoo" and canorus, "melodious ".
A study using stuffed bird models found that small birds are less likely to approach common cuckoos that have barred underparts similar to the Eurasian sparrowhawk, a predatory bird. Eurasian reed warblers were found more aggressive to cuckoos that looked less hawk-like, meaning that the resemblance to the hawk helps the cuckoo to access the nests of potential hosts. Other small birds, great tits and blue tits, showed alarm and avoided attending feeders on seeing either (mounted) sparrowhawks or cuckoos; this implies that the cuckoo's hawklike appearance functions as protective mimicry, whether to reduce attacks by hawks or to make brood parasitism easier.
The common cuckoo is an obligate brood parasite; it lays its eggs in the nests of other birds. At the appropriate moment, the hen cuckoo flies down to the host's nest, pushes one egg out of the nest, lays an egg and flies off. The whole process takes about 10 seconds. A female may visit up to 50 nests during a breeding season. Common cuckoos first breed at the age of two years.
More than 100 host species have been recorded: meadow pipit, dunnock and Eurasian reed warbler are the most common hosts in northern Europe; garden warbler, meadow pipit, pied wagtail and European robin in central Europe; brambling and common redstart in Finland; and great reed warbler in Hungary.
Studies were made of 90 great reed warbler nests in central Hungary. There was an "unusually high" frequency of common cuckoo parasitism, with 64% of the nests parasitised. Of the nests targeted by cuckoos, 64% contained one cuckoo egg, 23% had two, 10% had three and 3% had four common cuckoo eggs. In total, 58% of the common cuckoo eggs were laid in nests that were multiply parasitised. When laying eggs in nests already parasitised, the female cuckoos removed one egg at random, showing no discrimination between the great reed warbler eggs and those of other cuckoos.
It was found that nests close to cuckoo perches were most vulnerable: multiple parasitised nests were closest to the vantage points, and unparasitised nests were farthest away. Nearly all the nests "in close vicinity" to the vantage points were parasitised. More visible nests were more likely to be selected by the common cuckoos. Female cuckoos use their vantage points to watch for potential hosts and find it easier to locate the more visible nests while they are egg-laying.
