Plongeon huard | Common Loon | Gavia immer
Merci à mon généreux hôte, Guy Morneau, qui m'aura à nouveau permis de vivre cette toujours belle expérience que celle d'aller à la rencontre de ce si bel oiseau en compagnie de ses petits à peine sortie du nid.
Premier volet | À la rencontre du Prince de nos lacs
Lors de mon dernier passage en ce lieu, en juillet 2018, le lac avait été couvert de brume, cette fois-ci la brume n'y était pas mais les nuages couvraient toujours le ciel laissant passer de temps à autres quelques faibles rayons de soleil. Ce qui n'aura pas empêché la rencontre d'être encore des plus fameuses. Arrivée au petit matin nous aurons été en mesure d'observer, pendant près de deux heures, les parents nourrir continuellement leurs petits avant de les voir tour à tour se reposer de longues minutes avec leurs rejetons bien installés sur leur dos. La magie aura de nouveau opérée! Merci Sylvie, merci Guy!

This little chick was staying close to his mom. His sibling was predated the day before unfortunately. Hoping for the best for this little one. On the water yesterday I saw 8 Common Loons, 1 on the nest and 3 chicks.

I am back from my trip to Invermere, BC. This unusual looking Common Loon was a highlight.

Immer wieder ist es beeindruckend wie die Sonne die Lotusblüte zum Leuchten bringt. Ohne das Sonnenlicht sieht die Blüte nicht so transparent und farbkräftig aus. Es nicht verwunderlich das die Lotusblüten in Asien so hoch geschätzt werden. Das Foto machte ich aus der Froschperspektive heraus. Blüte und Himmel geben dem Bild tolle Farbkontraste. Dieses Fotografie entstand im Botanischen Garten in Erlangen. Viel Spaß beim betrachten.
It is always impressive as the sun does the lotus flower to shine. Without the sunlight sees the bloom is not as transparent and coloring power. هو دائما مثيرة للإعجاب كما يفعل الشمس زهرة اللوتس للتألق. دون ضوء الشمس يرى بلوم ليست شفافة كما وقوة التلوين. فإنه ليس من المستغرب أن يتم ذلك زهور اللوتس في آسيا ذات قيمة عالية. الصورة أخذت من منظور الضفدع. بلوم والسماء تعطي صورة ملونة كبيرة التناقضات. وقدم هذه الصورة في حديقة النباتات في الاحتفالات. المتعة.
I feel like the push and pull occurs mentally with kids now and more with screens than anything else. It was refreshing to visit the Pop Up Book Exhibit at the Newberry Library in Chicago and see some of these. This one is from a book called Immer Froh Tagaus, Tagein by Cornelie Lechler and is from 1893 (well before smart phones and ipads!) Here's some more information:

Took the boat out to shoot loons and their chicks today. Some were riding on the adults' back (more photos to come) but it was a nice surprise as I came upon this beautiful Loon sitting on her nest. An adult Goshawk (which was an amazing sight) was flying close over her nest hopefully it wont be predated. They are so vulnerable in this state.

Bundesweit sind sie immer öfter an Fenstern zu sehen: von Kindern gemalte Regenbogen.
Die Kinder malen ihre Regenbogen nicht nur auf Papier, manche Regenbogen erstrecken sich über das ganze Fenster. Sie sind mit Fernsterfarben angebracht. Teilweise ist auf den Bogen auch noch der Zusatz "Alles wird gut" zu lesen.
Das Foto ist zusammengesetzt aus zwei Bildern.

The children don't just paint their rainbows on paper, some rainbows extend all over the window. They are affixed with fernster colours. In some cases, the addition "Everything will be good" can also be read on the sheet.

You can't eat them, you can't drill holes with them either, they are not nibbles that are always standing somewhere in the apartment and are a dust catcher ... they are! They are the perfect ear cleaners, cotton swabs are yesterday.

Huit petits gâteaux attendent d'être servis. Vous vous demandez sûrement où et quel Éinsatzort ce sera ?
On ne peut pas les manger, on ne peut pas non plus percer des trous avec eux, ce ne sont pas des grignotages qui se trouvent toujours quelque part dans l'appartement et qui sont un collecteur de poussière ... ils le sont ! Ce sont de parfaits nettoyeurs d'oreilles, les cotons-tiges, c'est du passé.

Je remercie sincèrement Michel Paquin qui a participé à la réalisation de mon rêve. Il y a longtemps que je désirais voir une nichée de ces oiseaux majestueux. Merci aussi à ma bonne amie Anne Bertrand qui nous a mené à bon port, sur terre comme sur l'eau!

Immer wieder zieht es mich ans Wasser, auch in meiner Heimat in der Schweiz. Auch hier findet man viele kleine Bäche die wunderbare Details hergeben!
Das rauschende Wasser wirkt auf mich sehr beruhigend, genau richtig um abzuschalten und die Batterien neu aufzuladen.

Wasser wird immer knapper , Seen und auch Flüsse trocknen immer mehr aus .Ich stehe hier im Flußbett der Elbe in Magedeburg . Normal hätte ich jetzt mehr als nasse Füße.
Water is becoming increasingly scarce, lakes and rivers are drying up more and more. I am standing here in the river bed of the Elbe in Magedeburg. Normally I would now have more than wet feet.
Buntspecht - Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
The little great spotted woodpecker, which doesn't look so small here in the picture, is the smallest of our native woodpeckers. He is about 20 to 25 cm high and is a very shy bird.
I've tried sneaking up on one before. So far, however, they have always flown away before I got close enough to take a picture. Now I've finally succeeded. As you can see from the red spot on the neck, this is a male specimen.
Here, too, the quality of the image is unfortunately not optimal, because this picture is also from the cloudy morning when I photographed some other birds that you have already seen. Nevertheless, I am very happy to finally have the great spotted woodpecker in my collection.
Der kleine Buntspecht, der hier auf dem Bild garnicht so klein wirkt, ist der kleinste unserer heimischen Spechte. Er wird ca. 20 bis 25 cm hoch und ist ein sehr scheuer Vogel.
Ich habe mich schon oft versucht an einen heran zu schleichen. Bisher sind sie jedoch immer davon geflogen noch bevor ich nah genug heran gekommen bin um ein Foto zu machen. Jetzt ist es mir endlich mal gelungen. Wie man an dem roten Fleck im Nacken sehen kann, handelt es sich hier um ein männliches Exemplar.
Auch hier ist die Qualität der Aufnahme leider nicht optimal, denn auch dieses Bild stammt vom dem trüben morgen an dem ich noch einige andere Vögel fotografiert habe, die Ihr schon gesehen habt. Trotzdem bin ich sehr froh darüber den Buntspecht endlich in meiner Sammlung zu haben.

...fuhr der Starzug 49411 von Baalberge nach Polen. 232 189 ist am 21.2.2015 bei Mückenhain auf dem Weg nach Görlitz. Die H-Masten sind letzten Herbst leider gefallen, somit geht der typische Reichsbahnflair dieser Strecke nun endgültig verloren.

Troisième volet | Nourrir, grandir...
Impressionnant de voir le nombre de larves qui furent apportées aux petits durant les deux heures où nous les avons accompagné. Il est même arrivé à quelques reprises que les petits refusaient la petite proie proposée. Amusantes scènes. Même lorsque les petits se sont retrouvés sur le dos d'un des parents l'autre continuait, de temps à autres, de proposer de la nourriture qui souvent se ramassait sur le plumage de l'adulte tout près du petit, alors le dit adulte relayait le pourvoyeur en tentant à son tour de redonner la becquée. Parfois cela fonctionnait. Assurément les parents sont obsédés par leur désir de voir grandir rapidement leurs petits. L'appel de la nature fait encore admirablement son oeuvre!

Man denkt immer es gibt keine Eisvögel. Denn wenn es sie gäbe, dann müsste man sie doch dauernd und überall sehen - sie sind sooo bunt und schillernd. Doch das ist ein Irrtum. Sobald ein Eisvogel als Stoßtaucher still auf seinem Ast sitzt, ist er erstaunlich gut getarnt. Auch dieser junge Freund sitzt regungslos auf seinem Ansitzast, die Sonne im Rücken sucht er im Wasser seine nächste Mahlzeit. Dabei dreht er nur den Kopf hin und her, so wie wir das auch tun wenn wir durch die Spiegelung der Oberfläche sehen wollen.
Um diesen hübschen Kerl besonders detailreich sehen zu können, drückt die Tasten l (kleines L) und F11. Beim vergrößern nur durch Anklicken gehen viele Details verloren.
One always thinks there are no kingfishers. Because if they existed, you would have to see them all the time and everywhere - they are sooo colourful and dazzling. But that is a misconception. Once a kingfisher sits still on its branch as a thrust diver, it is surprisingly well camouflaged. This young friend is also sitting motionless on his branch, with the sun behind him, he is looking for his next meal in the water. He just turns and tilts his head left and right, like we do when we want to see through the reflection of the surface.

Cinquième et dernier volet | Le Prince...
Pour conclure cette série sur ma rencontre avec la petite famille de Plongeon huard voici, dans toute sa grâce, ce beau Prince des lacs. Ici il prenait une petite pause entre deux nettoyages et lissages de son tout particulier plumage, ce qui explique la présentation toute ébouriffée des plumes de sa queue.
Ce même Huard, devenu bien malgré lui en 1987 en quelques sorte un emblème de la monnaie canadienne, détrônant la feuille d'érable des défuntes cennes canadiennes (2013) qui jouait en quelques sortes jusqu'alors ce rôle. Le Plongeon huard est utilisé depuis comme figure sur le revers des pièces de un dollar de la monnaie canadienne (remplaçant le dollar en papier), ce qui l'amena à devenir, à force d'usage, la dénomination commune pour désigner le dollar canadien sur le marché des changes comme en fait foi notamment une manchette du journal La Presse du 18 mai dernier qui titrait alors «Le huard s’envole au-delà de 83 cents US».

Ich bin immer wieder fasziniert, wie schön die Sonne eine Landschaft in ein wunderbares Licht tauchen kann. Wenn dann noch Schnee, Berge und Nebel hinzukommen, dann geht einem das Herz ganz weit auf...deshalb liebe ich die Berge und den Winter...

Ringschnabelenten erreichen als Irrgäste immer wieder Europa. Sie sind kleine nordamerikanische Tauchenten aus der Familie der Entenvögel.
Diesen habe ich Freitag auf einem kleinen Teich in Niedersachsen gesehen.
RING-NECKED DUCK a very rare vagrant in Germany
Ring-necked ducks reach Europe again and again as vagranst. They are small North American divers from the family of duck-birds.
I saw this one Friday on a small pond in Lower Saxony.
Like I said before... there is nothing "common" about a Common Loon.
When he flapped his wings after preening, I was lucky enough to catch this series of this extraordinary bird.
He was busy catching crabs and at times fighting with another bird in breeding plumage who repeatedly tried to drag him under and drive him across the water. Soon that relented and they began to tolerate each other. I think their hormones levels are high at this time.
I felt at peace as I lay down and watched these two birds go about their business. They couldn't care less about our presence as they swam closer and closer and directly to us. It was a magical moment as our faces met. Even in the moment I couldn't stop from saying "Wow". They cried out their wailing calls several times to each other. I never tire of that sound. I felt blessed to be in their presence.
Whenever life gets tough, getting out in nature and with the birds just lifts me back up again. This is especially true when I get to spend time in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my favourite person and one of my favourite birds, the Common Loon.
Es zieht mich immer wieder zu dieser kleinen Kapelle Santa Clara hin. Die Kapelle steht auf einem Hügle inmitten von Heinersgrün und sie ist schon aus der Ferne zu sehen. Es hatte hier viel Schnee gelegen, aber bei meinem Besuch war bereits die Tauphase eingetreten und Teile der Wiese schauten durch. Heinersgrün wurde erstmalig im Jahr 1296 urkundlich erwähnt und befindet sich im Vogtlanddreieck in Sachsen, Nähe der bayerischen Grenze.
Wer die Kapelle innen besichtigen möchte, kann sich dazu einen Schlüssel ausleihen.
I keep coming back to this little chapel of Santa Clara. The chapel stands on a hill in the middle of Heinersgrün and can be seen from afar. There had been a lot of snow here, but when I visited the dew phase had already set in and parts of the meadow looked through. Heinersgrün was mentioned for the first time in 1296 and is located in the Vogtland triangle in Saxony, near the Bavarian border.
