The Kumano Kodo UNESCO Heritage Trail passes through innumerable stands of beautifully tall arrow-straight cedars with a delightful range of under-storey foliage.
While the forests are managed, they still evoke a primal sense of awe to be among such beautiful trees. We passed through in autumn but the colours were unseasonably late - a common story in the modern age.
This small section of path is between Takahara and the Gyubadoji-guchi bus stop and passes close by the former home of legendary strongman, Jujo Akushiro.
An inexplicable fact is that this is the best shot of this bit of forest - and it's with the phone! I did shoot some video on the phone as well but it doesn't translate to flickr at all well.

About 6 cloud to ground strikes occurred between 3:30PM and 4PM. I managed to capture 2 decent ones using my iPhone 11 Pro Max, handheld in slow motion mode. Each event occurred in about 1/20th of a second (or 1 or 2 frames with a convention movie frame rate of 24 or 30 fps).
The 1st strike looks to be negative, the 2nd positive. Any thought?

Taken 23 minutes after sunrise. Even with the sun several degrees above the horizon, thick smoke was blocking the intense sunlight. White bright cirrus and alto-cumulus were obviously above the filtering smoke.

What a magnificent vision to experience, especially when it is captured as an HDR (high dynamic range) image from 5 or six individual photos taken with the iPhone 11 Pro Max and then combined in Lightroom. Grateful, and blessed, for all the blessings and loves I have been showered with, and all that await coming. Soon. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

A windy day may have kicked up some red dust reflected in this lenticular cloud. What is unusual is that this red color occurred 75 to 45 minutes before sunset. This image was taken about an hour before sunset on 20 Jan.

The partial phase of this solar eclipse can be seen by the internal reflection next to the street lamp post. These cirri-form clouds just added another dimension to a perfect sky. Click to enlarge.
Lions Park, surrounding Sloan’s Lake, is Cheyenne’s largest developed open space. Canoeing, kayaking and fishing are all popular activities and with several miles of Greenway trail connected to the larger network, it is a popular place to run, walk and bike. The park which is dotted with picnic shelters, tables and playgrounds is also home to the Cheyenne Aquatics Center, softball fields, mini golf and the Kiwanis Community House.

In remembrance the local village hall has been flood lit in glorious red colour floodlighting. The rain gave me an excellent opportunity to find a puddle and get an unusual shot to the others that have already been taken.
The pouring rain was welcome except the traffic at the rush hour which limited my shot chances, particularly when motorists stop to let me across - but I did not want to cross just get down low without being run over !!

Week No. 41
ICM - "intentional camera movement"

Today I Look back at the Loma Prieta Earthquake which took place 32 years ago on this date. I lived in Redwood City at the time, a place that felt the quake rather strongly. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Earthquakes were quite common. On October 17th, 1989, I realized the potential of an earthquake and yes, I learned to respect their power. Today on the anniversary of that date, I created this image with the intention to simulate that feeling using intentional camera movement to simulate the experience of one’s world shaking out of control, the feeling that I experienced during the quake of ’89. Many might remember it as the quake that delayed the playing of the World Series. I remember it as the day I realized the an earthquake was potentially a devastation. I hope that on that date, I experienced the worst quake of my life, but realizing, that may not be true. Only time will tell.

Playground tires photographed through a chain link fence using iPhone 11 Pro Max. Art abounds in this university town. Candidate for “Repeating object” theme.
Just a little stream in the channel at Morston Quay in mid September. When tide is in, the place is buzzing with folks going on boats trips to view the seals at Blakeney Point.
