ENG: You can see the people empty Greifswalder Street in the Berlin district Prenzlauer Berg with a view towards Alexanderplatz.

Hi, you love out there. You know, it's funny how the landmarks of a city are so referenced. Very few people crossed our path on Friday during my little photo tour with my child.

Our Daily Challenge: Beneficial Moments

I had a mishap at the Botanic Gradens today, and as a result, I shot most of my images with the cell phone. You always need a Plan "B".

“Dutch Angle” perspective was created in the 1920’s by Germany. Its use in documentary video and portraiture was meant to enhance the mood/tension/importance of the subject. Its use has, not surprisingly, been “highjacked” over time from being documentary in nature to being frequently used in landscapes, still lifes and architecture with the inevitable reduction of its emotional impact on viewers. The original human (portrait) element is frequently no longer present. A pleasing perspective regardless if not employed to excess. The photo was originally taken for the Dutch Angle theme but held back a week as better suited for “Dogmania”. This image taken at 45 degree tilt from the sofa on which Pooka was laying.

ENG: You can see a part of the emergency exit stairs in the shopping center Gesundbrunnen in Berlin-Wedding. This black & white fineART interpretation with the unusual glass block masonry is also at the same time my last shot with the iPhone 11proMAX that I post here most likely. Why? Because my iPhone display did not survive a fall. ☻

Using an iPhone, I created a vertical panorama in order to better show the terrain just 40 feet elevation gain from my house. As one approaches the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, the High Western Plains becomes more hilly.

The thunderstorm at center was about 14 miles away in this scene.

When standing, it was maybe 4 inches tall. I just love the details that my iPhone picked up.— June 24, 2021

ENG: Summer holiday impressions. ☻

Here I am at the top of the large hill HS 137 with a tower height of 43.5 meters. A wonderful view over Oberstdorf. The approach length is 106.5 meters and it has a slope of 37.5 degrees. The large hill HS 137 from 2003 is especially known for the opening jump of the Four Hills Tournament. In addition, this ski jump is also used for training in summer and winter.

Oberstdorf is located in the Bavarian Oberallgäu at the southernmost tip of Germany. The curative-climatic health resort and Kneipp spa with its alpine skiing areas on the Nebelhorn, the Söllereck and the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand, the cross-country ski runs, the ice stadium and also the ski jumps and the ski flying hill serve as a winter sports field and are also a popular destination for mountaineers.

This shot was taken from Tartinery, a cafe on the third floor balcony overlooking the entrance to 10 Columbus Circle, also known as the Time-Warner Building, although I see "Deutsche Bank Center" on the window.

Years ago, probably more than I would estimate, I was in the tv studio audience for a taping of the Anderson Cooper Show, and the backdrop for the set was this exact view, a stunning view of Columbus Circle and Central Park South, leading to East 57th Street. There were strict rules, posted, announced, and on the tickets, against taking photos on set. This was enforced by an army of production assistants scanning the audience, shaming those who disobeyed, and forcing them to delete their shots. After the tapping was over, we could see the exact view, one floor down, open to public viewing. Columbus Circle, NYC -- February 15, 2023

A well-loved plastic toy, no more than 3 inches in length, that a child left us at the busy reference desk at the public library where I work, We keep expecting him to come back and claim his rhino friend, but it's been about a year now., and quite frankly we could use some mojo protection, so we keep him on the desk. The significance of this photo is just that I needed something to photograph today. One photo a day. (11/366) - January 11, 2020

An afternoon of challenging conditions, I got the briefest of gifts for my efforts climbing Cairn Gorm the interesting way via the Fiacaill Buttress. It's moments like these that are the cherry on top for me, The ridge in the distance is the route I took up. An enjoyable and exposed scramble in the Cairngorm National Park, Scotland.

ENG: Right next to the Zeughaus, which today houses the German Historical Museum, is the rather small Neue Wache. It was built between 1816 and 1818 according to the designs of Karl Friedrich Schinkel and has been the central memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany for the victims of wars and tyranny since 1993.

Neue Wache as a memorial!

The Neue Wache served until 1918 as the "Haupt- und Königswache" (Main and King's Guard) and, despite its active use, was understood as a memorial to the "wars of liberation". In 1931, Reich President Paul von Hindenburg determined that the building should become a memorial to the fallen of the First World War. The remodeling was done by the architect Heinrich Tessenow, who placed a black granite block with an oak leaf wreath of silver and gold inside.

Käthe Kollwitz sculpture in the Neue Wache!

After the guardhouse was almost completely destroyed in World War II, the GDR leadership had the building reconstructed and turned into a memorial to the victims of fascism and militarism in 1960. Inside, an "Eternal Flame" burned over the urns of an unknown concentration camp prisoner and an unknown soldier. Since 1993, the sculpture "Mother with Dead Son" by Käthe Kollwitz has been inside, commemorating the victims of war and tyranny.

Cheyenne, WY during the golden hour.

As the skies to my east flamed out, the western skies took on its own colors. As an added bonus, anti-crepuscular rays converged on the horizon.

After sunset, and as the cell moved further east, the base of the storm was showering large hail and frequent lightning. In the excitement, I should have used my 11-16mm lens with my Fujifilm camera at the ready to eliminate the distortion. Still, the iphone delivered when it was needed.

ENG: The island in Lake Schwerin with its marshy surroundings was already inhabited in Slavic times. Traces of a first castle complex point back to the 9th century. The Obotrite tribe settled here. In the Slavic language the place is called "zuarin", which means "place of animals" and probably indicates an area rich in game.

Schwerin Castle, built between 1843 and 1857, is located on the still existing island in Schwerin Lake and is today one of the most important buildings of historicism in Europe.

On an island, charmingly embedded in a picturesque lake and castle garden and park landscape that can be walked through free of charge, Schwerin Castle is one of the most important creations of romantic historicism in Europe. And with an entrance fee of just 8 or 9 euros, visitors to the palace can immerse themselves in a princely, feudal world.

ENG: Fort Hahneberg, located on the western edge of Berlin (Spandau-Staaken), is considered one of the last Prussian-style fortifications in Germany. It was completed in 1888 after six years of construction and since the late 1990s can now be visited again partially restored. The visit is only possible with a guided tour, as the site is maintained and restored by an association. The price for the historical guided tour is relatively low per adult, however, for 7.50€ you get a lot offered in the approximately 90 minutes.

After its completion, the facility served until 1945, among other things, as barracks and central archive for military medicine, so it was mainly used for military purposes. During the Buchrucker Putsch on October 1, 1923, the fort, together with the Spandau Citadel, was briefly occupied by putschists who had to surrender to regular Reichswehr units. After the end of World War II, parts of the walls and structures built of bricks were broken out and taken away as building material for the reconstruction of Berlin. Until the fall of the Wall in 1989, the fort was located unused in the area of the barrier installations in the former East Berlin of the border crossing point Heerstrasse and has only been accessible to the public again since 1990 and was handed over to the association Arbeits- und Schutzgemeinschaft Fort Hahneberg e. V. in 1993.

ENG: This gorgeous view over the Möckernbrücke to the German Museum of Technology and the Gleisdreieck I was able to take on a photo safari through Berlin's Kreuzberg district.

On this tour I was keen on a completely different motif, but more about that in a moment. ☻ A big thanks again to Jutta for this tip. Coming soon is my interpretation of the 14-floor high-rise building not far from the Willy Brandt SPD headquarters on Stresemannstreet.
