Fort Indiantown Gap PA hosted the annual WWII Battle of the Bulge Reenactment January 27 - 30, 2011. One of my brothers and I drove there on the 29th. I was interested in portraits, and managed to take a number of decent ones, This year we could actually see some of the mock battle through the trees and undergrowth - and mass of spectators – so there are many shots of reenactors in combat roles posted. The sky was overcast all day, and it snowed most of the time...
What you see here is one of many photos I'll be posting of reenactors in US and German uniforms. (Please note: You may catch an occasional glimpse of a military swastika on a German uniform or helmet - not often, but enough that if it would be something you'd rather not to have happen to you, then I recommend you look only at the GIs & Brits.)
The Battle of the Bulge was a momentous and historic event that proved decisive in the Second World War in Europe. This collection of reenactors' images reflects modern-day individuals' passion to portray soldiers and civilians from the nations involved in the actual event - the Second World War, and specifically, the Battle of the Bulge. That was a meaningful time for all the men and women who took part in it. Honoring their memory is key to those who participate in this annual reenactment, recreating the zeitgeist.

This was one of the several spots it chose to oviposit on the citrus tree. It carefully examined potential locations and then settled for suitable ones.
It laid eggs all over the tree; up, down, within and without.
All the while, I waited for it to get in a good distance for a shot. I followed slowly when it moves on, or stay still and try to blend into the environment. I imagined it would mistake me for citrus and then...
I lost it several times though, only to discover it moments later still on its business on the tree.

Hosted each year by the Grand Canyon Association, the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is an annual event that includes 6 days of art related events followed by a month long exhibition in Kolb Studio on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. .
The Celebration of Art features thirty artists from around the country who engage in a plein air competition and exhibition. Visitors have the opportunity to watch the artists paint as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of this vast landscape. .
Each artist brings a completed studio piece with them and then creates more artwork on site during the "Plein Air on the Rim" and Quick Draw events that takes place in the historic district of Grand Canyon Village. During the auction that follows the Quick Draw event, Visitors have the opportunity to bid on the work and to bring a piece of Grand Canyon home.
Proceeds from this event will support the goal of funding an art venue at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This permanent home will ensure that future generations of park visitors will be able to view the stunning art collection in the Grand Canyon National Park Museum and Grand Canyon Association Collections. Diplomats, UN Officials and Civil Society Share Experiences at Event to Mark
World Interfaith Harmony Week
Geneva, February 7, 2011
The Permanent Missions of the United States of America and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan jointly sponsored a panel discussion on Interfaith Collaboration to mark the proclamation by the United Nations of the first World Interfaith Harmony Week.
Ambassador Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe, U.S. Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council and Ambassador Shehab Madi, Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations welcomed guests from other diplomatic missions, NGOs and civil society representatives to the February 7, 2011 event at the United States Mission.
Four panelists – Rashad Hussain, President Obama’s Special Envoy to the OIC, Father Nabil Haddad, Founder and CEO of the Jordanian Interfaith Coexistence Research Center, Randa Kuziez, a young interfaith activist from the United States, and Robin Sclafani, Director of CEJI, Jewish Contribution to an Inclusive Europe – led a discussion on how to bridge interreligious divides and promote religious tolerance.
Opening the event, Ambassador Donahoe said the United States believes that governments must speak out against religious intolerance and employ tools to address it. “These tools include a combination of robust legal protections against discrimination and hate crimes, proactive government outreach, inter-religious efforts, education, and the vigorous defense of both freedom of religion and expression.”
“It is incumbent upon both governments and members of society to model respect, welcome diversity of belief, and build respectful societies based on open dialogue and debate.”
Special Envoy Hussain emphasized that tolerance is essential for religion to thrive and that freedom of religion is central to the ability of people’s to live together. The full text of Special Envoy Hussain’s remarks are available on the U.S. Mission website.

About A Better You
A Better You marks the second directorial comedy feature of Upright Citizens Brigade co-founder Matt Walsh. Within Hollywood’s unconventional healing community of Reiki therapists and acupuncturists, Dr. Ron Knight (Brian Huskey) stands out with his “Wake Up! Wake Up!” form of screaming hypnotherapy. A published author of self-help, he can cure whatever ails you, from smoking to your lack of confidence. But with great ego and success come great costs. As Dr. Ron becomes the prisoner to his own head, he loses touch with his gorgeous wife Margo (Morgan Walsh) and their two children. Margo forces Dr. Ron to go to marriage counseling, but he finds that Dr. Milner (Joe Lo Truglio) is just another quack. Thrown into a midlife crisis, Dr. Ron looks to the most unlikely of shoulders to cry upon: Hugo (Horatio Sanz), the day laborer at the Hardware Superstore. Along for the ride are a number of eclectic patients including Patrick (Matt Walsh) who has a smoking problem, Tamara who’ll do the most X-rated things for a cigarette (Natasha Leggero), a befuddled high school football coach (Rob Huebel) and a stuttering voiceover artist (Nick Kroll). Then there’s hot patient Lindsay (Erinn Hayes), a conflict of interest waiting that could further spin Dr. Ron’s head. Further complicating Dr. Ron’s life are his neighbors, led by Joel, the snarky association president (Andrew Daly) and his wife (Riki Lindhome). Tavis Smiley, talk show host and author was presented by the Sacramento area group, PAC15 “ An Evening with Tavis Smiley”. This event was held at Elks Tower Sacramento, located at 921 11th Street. I had the opportunity to work with SacCultural Hub media team to cover this fundraising event . The evening started with a VIP reception from 6:30-7:30 p.m., followed by the program from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Food and beverages provided by Chef James. PAC15’s mission is to strengthen and improve the relationships between the African American community and legislative decision makers.

A group of exciting smaller firms met with Pitney Bowes Senior Team at our latest Innovation@Work day
One of the most exciting opportunities for a small firm is to find out what a global technology giant really thinks about them. 19 firms from Connecticut and around the country had that opportunity two weeks ago at Pitney Bowes’s Stamford world HQ.
Based on an RFP created by Pitney Bowes’s innovation leadership team that was distributed to tech Councils in the U.S. and Canada who are member of TECNA, a trade association of tech councils currently run by CTC’s Matthew Nemerson, some twenty firms were selected by Pitney Bowes senior management to spend the day in Stamford, present, and talk to the PB staff.
Some of the firms will be called back for future meetings and the hope is that contracts, acquisitions and shared technology projects may all flow from the efforts.
The next Innovation@Work meeting will be planned for the Spring.

Students from the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, librarians from the school’s Health Sciences Library and the Plainview Old-Bethpage Central School District (POBCSD) joined forces recently to host a Health Education Fair at Mattlin Middle School in Plainview. Visitors were able to try their hand at laparoscopic surgery techniques using a virtual game; solve an outbreak using a special iPad app and bandage up a teddy bear at the free bear clinic.
