Princess earring is a hybrid species obtained from South American fuchsia species, mainly Fuchsia corymbiflora Ruiz. & Pav., Fuchsia fulgens Moc. & Ses. and Fuchsia magellanica Lam.

Scientific Name: Fuchsia sp

Family: Onagracee.

In South America alone there are over 200 different species of princess earring, also known as fuchsia, tickle and tear.

Flower symbol of Rio Grande do Sul, is a plant that is a huge international success. It has many varieties, and both petals and sepals can be of different colors and shapes. The most common colors are red, pink, blue, violet and white, with various combinations, without blending. They rise practically all year round and attract hummingbirds as pollinators.

The branch is pending, but there may be variations, with upright and other pending plants. Should be grown preferably under half shade, some species enjoy full sun.

Its propagation occurs through seeds or by cutting the tips of its branches.

Although it has a great variety, there is a common trait among them all: they greatly appreciate the cold. Therefore, they are more common in places with mild climate. Easily found in the highest regions of Rio Grande do Sul, amid the Atlantic Forest.

Propagation can be either by seed or by cuttings. A curiosity about the origin of its scientific name. Fuchsia derives from the surname of the German physician and botanist Leonhart Fuchs, born in Wemding (1501/1566).

This faded female is likely laying her last eggs here on this thistle leaf, the host plant for their caterpillars. Painted lady caterpillars can't survive the cold winters here but these eggs will likely hatch and make more pretty painted ladies before the snow flies.

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

BY WILLIAM WORDSWORTH

The ruins of Whitby Abbey crown a clifftop over the historic fishing port of Whitby. The headland has hosted St Hild’s Anglo-Saxon monastery, the great medieval abbey and a Stuart mansion, and it’s long been the focus of myths and legends.

Whitby Abbey was a 7th-century Christian monastery that later became a Benedictine abbey. The abbey church was situated overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England, a centre of the medieval Northumbrian kingdom. The abbey and its possessions were confiscated by the crown under Henry VIII during the dissolution of the monasteries between 1536 and 1545.

Since that time, the ruins of the abbey have continued to be used by sailors as a landmark at the headland. Since the 20th century, the substantial ruins of the church have been declared a Grade I Listed building and are in the care of English Heritage. The site museum is housed in Cholmley House, a 17th-century banqueting hall repurposed by design studio Stanton Williams in 2002.

Streoneshalh

The monastery was first founded in AD 657 by Oswy, King of Northumbria, as Streoneshalh, the older name for Whitby. He appointed Lady Hilda, abbess of Hartlepool Abbey and grand-niece of Edwin, the first Christian king of Northumbria, as founding abbess.

The double monastery of monks and nuns was home (614–680) to the great Northumbrian poet Cædmon.

A lidar view of Whitby Abbey and surrounding archaeological residues.

In 664, the Synod of Whitby took place at the monastery to resolve the question of whether the Northumbrian church would adopt and follow the Easter dating of Iona, the 84-year cycle which had been previously used in Rome and on the continent, or the new 19-year cycle which had recently been adopted at Rome. There was also discussion of what kind of tonsure clergy and monks should use. The decision, with the support of King Oswy, was for adopting the newer Roman Easter calculation, as was used in other English kingdoms to the south.

Streoneshalch monastery was laid to waste by Danes in successive raids between 867 and 870 under Ingwar and Ubba, and remained desolate for more than 200 years. A locality named 'Prestebi' was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, which may be a sign that religious life was revived in some form after the Danish raids. 'Witebi' (Whitby) is also mentioned. Prestebi, from Old Norse, means a habitation of priests. The old monastery given to Reinfrid comprised about 40 ruined monasteria vel oratoria, similar to Irish monastic ruins with numerous chapels and cells.

Whitby.

Reinfrid, a soldier of William the Conqueror, became a monk and travelled to Streoneshalh, which was then known as Prestebi or Hwitebi, from Old Norse, meaning "White settlement". He approached William de Percy for a grant of land, who gave him the ruined monastery of St. Peter with two carucates of land, to found a new monastery. Serlo de Percy, the founder's brother, joined Reinfrid at the new monastery, which followed the Benedictine rule. The greater part of de Percy's building was pulled down and the monastery was rebuilt on a larger scale in the 1220s.

The Benedictine abbey thrived for centuries as a centre of learning. This second monastery was destroyed by Henry VIII in 1540 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The abbey was bought by Sir Richard Cholmley. It remained in the Cholmley family and their descendants, the Strickland family. The Strickland family passed it to the UK government in 1920. The ruins are now owned and maintained by English Heritage.

In December 1914, Whitby Abbey was shelled by the German battlecruisers Von der Tann and Derfflinger, whose crew "were aiming for the Coastguard Station on the end of the headland. Scarborough and Hartlepool were also attacked. The abbey buildings sustained considerable damage during the ten-minute attack.

I like this poem, and the row of daffodils guarding the holly hedge in my garden reminded me ot 'the host of golden daffodils'.

A host of motorcycles, mostly Harley Davidsons gathered at the Brookdale Tavern Bloomfield NJ across the street from me on March 6th, 2021. Earlier in the day members of the Bloomfield NJ police department and many others from police departments as far as Massachusetts said final good-byes to retired Bloomfield 53 year old police officer Benedetto “Benny” Christiano, who lost his battle to COVID-19 on March 2, 2021. He retired in December 2020 and then was diagnosed with COVID-19.

Valle de la Luna is a part of the Reserva Nacional los Flamencos and was declared a Nature Sanctuary in 1982 for its natural environment and strange lunar landscape, from which its name is derived.

The Atacama desert is also considered one of the driest places on earth, as some areas have not received a single drop of rain in hundreds of years, but last week. A prototype for a Mars rover was tested there by scientists because of the valley's dry and forbidding terrains.

It wasn't the best of sunsets, but it was the best beach to be at for sunset, so I had fun trying to catch the beautiful colours. I failed miserably but this came close. There wasn't much flat wet sand to get reflections, so I took off my shoes, attached them to my camera bag and paddled at low tide . Much later I discovered my shoes weren't attached, and the thought of a half mile walk back to the cottage in bare feet , with resultant thistle punctures necessitated a mad dash to find them. Fortunately they hadn't drifted out to sea, so Lost and found , by Alabama 3 is perfect.

Bureau d'architecture ELD.

With Corda I, its steep green roof and its volumetric glazed facade, the city of Hasselt hosted its first incubator. The project, intended to accommodate young companies and start-ups focused on technology, high technology, ICT and new media, includes 14,000 m² of office space and offers common facilities such as meeting rooms, a café lounge, a restaurant and a central reception. . The building has seven floors, multi-tenant and flexible office space and, at its highest point, rises thirty meters above the surrounding land.

The design of the service center stems from a master plan and a Corda campus developed for the former Philips production site, transforming this industrial wasteland into a new freely accessible park

Corda Campus now functions as the ultimate eye-catcher, with architecture and landscape merging into one. This project is a success on many levels and has attracted many companies, in turn accelerating the need to complete the master plan with Corda II and Corda III.
