This faded female is likely laying her last eggs here on this thistle leaf, the host plant for their caterpillars. Painted lady caterpillars can't survive the cold winters here but these eggs will likely hatch and make more pretty painted ladies before the snow flies.

Lake Placid in upstate New York is known for hosting the Winter Olympics twice (1932 and 1980) and "The Miracle on Ice" when the US Men's Hockey team overcame great obstacles and won the gold metal. However, to New Yorkers it is also a summer retreat with magnificent lakes and fabulous lake homes. Among all the mansions on the water I spotted this exceptional smaller cabin and beautiful boat house where I could mentally see tranquil days and relaxing on the dock. It is a beautiful site. "Crete hosts an extremely rare and endemic variety of plane trees (Platanus orientalis var. Cretica) with about 50 trees being reported throughout the island. The characteristic feature of this variety is that it is evergreen, unlike the common deciduous plane trees.
One of these trees is of great historical and mythological value and has survived the centuries, since the Minoan era. This is the plane of Gortyna, which still stands proudly in the back side of the current archaeological site of ancient Gortys.
The plane was dedicated to Zeus and according to mythology, under this tree, Zeus mated with Europa after transferring her to Crete from [the Levant]*. This is where she conceived her children; Minos, Sarpedon and Radamanthys. Since then, the plane did not lose its foliage again. The importance given to this tree is very clear by the depiction of Europa under the tree in the ancient coins of Gortys."

Au XIIième siècle, une hostie miraculeuse était vénérée dans l'église. Dans la seconde moitié du XIIIième siècle, un cajarcois, Aymeric d'Hébrard de la famille de Saint-Sulpice, évêque de Coïmbre, fit restaurer entièrement l'église. Pendant les guerres de religion on s'acharna sur les édifices religieux et au cours des siècles l’église devait subir de nombreuses mutilations et transformations. Les derniers gros travaux sont datés d'entre 1875 (avec la création d’un chœur semi-circulaire, d’une sacristie, d’un portail monumental au sud et une ouverture des rues autour de l’édifice) et 1881 avec l'installation de l'orgue. C'est en 1928 qu'on vit l'aménagement de la chapelle dédiée à la bienheureuse Annette Pelras, cette cajarcoise née le 16 juin 1760 et montée sur l’échafaud à Paris le 17 juillet 1794 pour avoir, comme quinze de ses sœurs de congrégation, refusé de renier sa foi. Dès le parvis, on peut apercevoir une statue de Saint Roch invitant les pèlerins et cheminants sur le chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle à prendre un peu de repos sous ses voûtes.
L'édifice est référencé dans la base Mérimée et à l'Inventaire général Région Occitanie. Plusieurs objets (tableaux, croix procession, calice, ciboire, etc.) sont référencés dans la base Palissy
We have been hosting one of Miss Lily's friends she met at Uni in the UK. The timing hasn't been great as Miss had a thesis due and exams. On Sunday, he had to put up with the old farts while she studied and we took him to the place close to my heart to show him our Victorian Coast line- Phillip Island. It was safe to say he was impressed.
This was taken at Kilcunda, just upon sunset and I leached the last bit of light by sitting the camera on the steps railing to get a longer exposure. It was a stormy day but we were lucky with the weather.
There is alot of talk on social media about the role of the vagus nerve and it's use in helping with mood and anxiety. The vagus nerve acts as a communication pathway between the brain and the body, influencing mood, stress responses, and even the immune system.
I think if I could go for a walk along the beach everyday, I would be able to resent my vegus nerve to something more approaching calm.
