USAG-Humphreys hosted a taping of Shoot-Dori, a Korean variety show featuring a group of kids training and practicing their soccer skills here June 26.
During the taping of the show, a group Humphreys kids played a friendly match against the Shoot-Dori players. The day ended with some fun at Humphreys’ Splish and Splash water park.

Eight cadets hosted the first Merit Badge College at West Point for dozens of Boy Scouts from Troop 23 Oct. 18. Class of 2016 Cadet Regina Parker came up with the idea over the summer and worked with Troop 23 Scoutmaster Rod Wilson to organize the event. She asked several of her friends from the Corps—a few former scouts among them—to help out. Additional assistance was provided by the West Point Fire and Emergency Services and Military Police Detachment. The activities conducted would fulfill requirements for the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge and the Emergency Preparedness merit badge. College of DuPage hosted the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technical and Scientific Olympics March 15 in the Student Services Center on the College's main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., in Glen Ellyn. During this event, sponsored by College of DuPage, DuPage NAACP and the DuPage Regional Office of Education, community members are invited to view the entrepreneurship, filmmaking and performing arts (excluding playwriting) projects as they are being judged.
After the mass, the next event is the removal of Holy Host from the Church and place the Holy Host in the Prayer Room and the Altar of Repose.
We hosted an open studio for the Pataphysical Slot Machine in Mill Valley on Saturday, May 28th, from 1pm to 5pm. This special showing of our surreal art exhibit was for families with kids ages 6 or older. They seemed to enjoy the experience, as these photos suggest.
Visitors asked our poetic oracle for instructions from the future — and opened our many magical wonderboxes. They also learned more about ‘Pataphysics, the “science of imaginary solutions” that inspired dada and surrealism.
Many thanks to Drs. Figurine, Canard and their family for so graciously hosting this event in their home. Kudos as well to Drs. Rindbrain, Skidz, Heatshrink and Zboon for their help in preparing this event.

Austin hosted its annual Museum Day on Sunday, September 18, 2016. Mike and I took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy free admission to several museums and historic homes. Our third stop was the Neill-Cochran House Museum (2310 San Gabriel St.).
In 1855, Washington and Mary Hill commissioned master builder Abner Cook to construct a Greek-Revival-style house northwest of downtown Austin. The Hills never lived in the house; its current name refers to two families who lived here after the Hills built it. Colonel Andrew and Jennie Chapman Neill purchased the house in 1876, and it was later sold to Judge Thomas and Bessie Rose Cochran in the 1890s. It was subsequently acquired by the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of Texas in 1958 and converted into a museum.
Located behind the main house is a two-story limestone Dependency; to its left (in the shade of a pecan tree) is the Carriage House. Following are a few details on these structures according to the museum's website:
Dependency
The term ''dependency'' applies to any secondary structure on a property. Barns, workshops, privies, kitchens, and other support buildings all could be called dependencies. The origin of the term is not known, but could refer either to the fact that without a primary building, none of the secondary structures would be necessary (they are thus dependent on the primary building). In contrast, the term may reflect the fact that the primary building could not have functioned without its secondary structures, and therefore was itself dependent on them.
In the mid-19th century, the Neill-Cochran House had several dependencies, including a barn (on the site of the current Carriage House), a privy, a kitchen (where our modern gift shop is today), and this workshop and living space structure. It is thought that this building might pre-date the Neill-Cochran House itself. If so, then the team of enslaved laborers who built the main house built this structure first and likely lived in it while building the main residence.
The basic structural design of this building mirrors that of the main building, with rubble limestone walls and cedar lintels above the doors and windows. However, the degree of finish and the materials employed were more rudimentary than those used on the main house:
* The walls are somewhat narrower than on the main house (14 inches vs. 18 inches); as a result, the cedar lintels are exposed on the exterior and interior walls. On the main building, the lintels are hidden behind plaster on the interior and behind limestone lintels on the exterior.
* This structure also has a total of three windows and an exterior stairwell to take best advantage of the limited interior space. The main house originally had 32 windows.
* Finally, the bottom floor was originally dirt and the second floor wood, but of a lower-quality milling than the floors in the main house. The wooden floors in the Dependency have knots that expose the second to the first floor (there is no sub-floor), and raking light shows the circular saw marks that cut the wood (not visible on the main house's interior floorboards).
Today, the Dependency is interpreted as a late nineteenth-century work space and living quarters. You can view several photos of the Dependency's interior on the museum's website.
Carriage House
This small, one-story building is called the ''Carriage House''; it sits on the site of a garage that dated at least to the Cochran era (1895–1958), if not earlier. This modern structure sits on the footprint of the garage, which creates a difficulty due to the large pecan tree to the left of the door.
The Carriage House provides climate-controlled modern storage, but it is faced with limestone quarried in middle of the 19th century. The stone came to the museum as a gift in 1982 from an 1850 building on Congress Avenue that was being demolished. On the interior, the building also incorporates timber from other Congress Avenue buildings.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a spring celebration in Washington, D.C. commemorating the March 27, 1912 gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City Japan to the city of Washington

Origins of the cherry trees in DC:
Viscountess Chinda was the wife of the Japanese ambassador. She and Mrs. Taft planted the first two cherry trees at the Tidal Basin March 27th 1912
The ceremony of planting these trees grew into the National Cherry Blossom Festival
This special part of history is celebrated through many events and is also commemorated with a large, bronze plaque at the site of the first planting
Also of importance is Dr. David Fairchild, a prominent botanist who planted the first cherry trees in D.C.

On 9th March 2018, ESCP Europe's London School and Campus hosted its 13th Annual Gala Dinner Dance.
Staged at The Landmark London five-star hotel, the event attracted record numbers for what is a highlight of the Campus' annual programme and calendar.
With 10 different degree programmes represented and over 350 guests, focus was placed on the School's achievements over the preceding 12 months and the success of its diverse student community.
A highlight of the evening was the award for London Student Society of the Year based on a student vote linked to four core values: Student Life, Community Building, Creativity and ESCP Europe Spirit. The award was shared by the Eventures Association-Regatta and UNITED, the London arm of the diplomatic society that organises the School's participation in the Model UN conference in New York. Both teams won a case of fine wine, generously donated by Tannin & Oak in West Hampstead. In presenting the evening's awards, Prof. Mercado, Dean of the London Campus, also highlighted two other Societies for their activism and initiative throughout the year: Cheer Up, the society campaigning for patients with cancer; and the Women in Finance Society, who we celebrated on our Facebook page to coincide with International Women's Day on 8th March.
Guests unanimously agreed that the Gala was a huge success, with many already looking forward to next year's event.
