Slept in a bit on Friday after getting up and checking the weather at 5:30. It was pretty much the same as Thursday so we decided there was no point going out and taking practically identical photos.
We went kayaking on Okarito Lagoon which was pretty cool except I managed to get myself completely soaked and Dad laughed at me. We saw Godwits, Pipers, Spoonbills, a blue heron and a couple of white herons. Dad and I were sharing a kayak and right as we were nearly back to shore managed to get stuck! It wasn't that bad though because a white heron was standing in the water maybe three or four metres away from us so that was awesome. We got unstuck after a little bit and returned to shore. I was so glad of a shower then!
After lunch Bee and I packed up our stuff and packed it into her car and set off. We had a break in Hokitika for a while and then drove as far as Kumara Junction before Bee remembered that we forgot to get petrol and the needle was on E. Luckily we weren't too far away from Hokitika so were able to drive back and fill up the tank.
We didn't stop again until Arthur's Pass for a quick toilet break and also made friends with four Keas who were hanging out by the carpark.
From there we drove on until we reached Castle Hill which has totally amazing limestone rock formations. It's near Flock Hill Station which was used in The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe. Both Bee and I got a bit carried away with our cameras and when we got back to the car realised just how long we'd been there.
She dropped me home about ten and I was very glad of being able to go to my own bed and have a nice long sleep. Speaking of bed, that's where I'm headed right now because I have yet another early start tomorrow because I have a plane to catch and a course to go to (and my Viking Essay to finish off).

As Sare and myself went for a drive out to the Central Tablelands, we were struggling to find a spot to set up for this rainbow once we saw it. As we drove through the small town of Hampton, on the way out towards Oberon, we came across this area near the township itself.
A quick rush around for some compositions and a few fences scaled, and this is what I came up with. Very happy with the result on this after post process.

The second highest point on Hilbre Island(the highest being that antenna on the right of the shot). You can also see a boats searchlight on the right, i'm pretty sure it was some sort of rescue boat because they were looking in the water for a while with a searchlight they then came over to the island looking around the cliffs. one point they shone it up towards were i was so i got out of sight as i didt want them thinking i wanted rescuing :p
i've done a couple more Hilbre Island panoramas before............

Sunset looked promising last night, so I decided to get out and take only my second sunset shot of the year! I am glad it worked out as the color show lasted for a little while. I was surprised that there were not many other photographers on the 12th Street bridge. I almost had this scene just to myself!
This is a combination of three exposures, -2,0,+2 merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I cleaned up some dust spots on the lens and did a little "Dodging" in Photoshop. Final adjustments such as noise removal, sharpening and pulling back the saturation were done in Lightroom.
Thank you for all of your support, views, comments and faves. I appreciate them.

Hobe Mountain, at 86 feet, is the highest point in South Florida south of Lake Okeechobee. It is located at the Jonathan Dickinson State Park. It only takes 10 minutes to climb up the wooden stairs to the top. At the summit there is a platform in which you have a panoramic view of the sparkling Altantic ocean, the Intracoastal waterway and miles of slash-pine forest.
The highest mountain in Germany...The Zugspitze/2962m,the lake called Eibsee...Beautiful Nature..!!!!

Although it may not look much, but this shot probably means the most to me from my recent prolonged trip to India. The office where I was located had this somewhat dilapidated but fully functional tea shop right downstairs and I would spend countless hours there after work chatting with colleagues.
Luckily enough the gentleman who owns the tea shop spoke a little Bengali, so I was able to communicate with him.
As I spent more time in the shop, I noticed a man working, but always in the back, with a rather odd expression on his face. Questions about him were met with sudden walls of silence.
As I became friends with the shop keeper, he finally told me one day that it was his brother and he was mentally handicapped. In places such as India, mental handicaps are often considered a source of shame to the family, especially in less educated families. So the owner of the shop, the big brother, took care of his sibling in exchange for his labor.
I spent many a days to photograph this dynamic between the brothers. One particular evening, under the glow of the 40 watt light bulb, I saw my moment. The light fell perfectly on his face as he stood meekly in the corner.
This shot is meant to be symbolic, the big brother in the forefront taking care of everything, while the less capable one quietly stirs about in the background for a roof over his head when he goes to bed at night.
Not sure if I managed to pull it off of what I was trying to get at, and by no means is this shot a head turner. But I kind of like it as a personal favorite. Sorry for the long description!

“Unconditional Surrender,” a 25-foot, 6,000 pound statue by world-renowned artist J.Seward Johnson commemorating a famous World War II photo was unveiled Feb. 10 at Mole Park in San Diego. Unconditional Surrender is a three-dimensional interpretation of a photo taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt of a Sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square, New York City on Aug. 14, 1945, following the announcement of V-J Day, world war II.
The speech of Alfred Eisenstaedt, Father of Photojournalism is the following:
"In Times Square on V.J. Day, I saw a sailor running along the street grabbing every girl in sight. I was running ahead of him with my Leica looking back over my shoulder. Then suddenly, in a flash, I saw something white being grabbed. I turned around and clicked the moment the sailor kissed the nurse...I took exactly four pictures. It was done within a few seconds."
- ,Alfred Eisenstaedt (Dec 6, 1898 – Aug 24, 1995)

The photo was taken last summer. An ordinary lad living in a remote barrio in the town of Pantoc, Zaroga, Nueva Ecija. The future seems uncertain from his look, which I believe he can’t choose but can do something about it... What future is set for him?
