Plates from Solothurn are not that rare, but I rarely see high plates from this canton! This S 63 AMG has the highest plate from Solothurn I have!

So there's these Meeroos... and I'm kind of in love with them.

The highest mountain monastery in Russia. Surprisingly, it is essentially a new building.

The Iversky Cathedral is an exact copy of the ancient Alanian temples, built of stone in the traditions of Byzantine architecture.

The Alanian monastery was built on the site of a former medieval Ossetian settlement.

I walked up to the top of Skinnarviksberget yesterday. It has the highest natural point in central Stockholm, and is a popular place for picnics. Here it looks like someone enjoyed a chilled bottle of Barone MontaltoNero d'Avola Passivento.

Hinton Ampner House

The current house was built in 1793 but remodelled extensively in 1867.

It was remodelled again for Ralph Dutton, 8th Baron Sherborne, between 1936 and 1939 to his vision of what it would have been like had it been built on its current scale in 1790 – a Georgian country house.

On Sunday, April 3rd 1960, Ralph Dutton went out for a walk leaving the fire burning in the library of his house. Whilst he was out, a cinder from the fire jumped the fireguard and started a blaze. The house was gutted.

It was restored much as it had appeared in 1936. The restoration took 3 years

Ralph Dutton, had no heirs when he died in 1985 so the house was passed to the National Trust.

The house contains Dutton’s priceless collection of ceramics.

The highest waterfall on Mauritius plunges more than 85 meters down against a scenic backdrop of forests and mountains. Many consider this the most beautiful waterfall of Mauritius. There are three distinct streams of water plunging down from the St. Denis River into the gorge. The sight of this impressive waterfall against the scenic forest and mountains is truly breath-taking.

Over 4 years ago and I am still discovering overlooked images from my bicycle-powered trip across the United States. This image was shot from 8,751 feet up on the highest peak in Texas.

About

A second Vertorama from the lake ( De put ) where I went last saturday.

I told I was going to write you a little vertorama tutorial when I had more of these under my belt, but now I think that the method will proof itself much faster if you all give it a try.

The little vertorama tutorial is down below.

The shot

2 x Standard 3 exposures HDR [-2,0,+2EV] in RAW/ISO100 at f/8 using the Sigma 10-20mm lens, on a tripod.

Photomatix

Tonemapped using the detail enhancer.

Vertorama stitching : the lazy bastard way.

As input you need two shots taken horizontally, one above the other with about 30% overlap, I've used 2 horizontal HDR shots taken at 11mm here but that ain't important, just rest assured that there ain't no problem with the widest shots.

So here is the photoshop part :

1) Load both shots into photoshop.

2) If there is too much difference in the colour or brightness of the shot you can alter

one of them to match the most pleasing of the two using the normal tools you

should know by now. This sure doesn't need to be an exact match.

3) Copy paste one of them into the other.

4) Rotate the canvas 90°

5) Select both layers

6) Select 'Edit>Auto-Align layers...' and be sure to select 'Cylindrical stitching'

7) Select 'Edit>Auto-Blend layers'

8) Rotate the canvas 90° in the opposite direction of the previous rotate.

9) Flatten the image.

Now all you have to do is a crop and do all other photoshop work you wish.

Hope it will work out for you too: quick and easy !

In fact this is so dead easy that you can poor this into a photoshop action (step 3 until 9 ) :

I sure did!

You might be wondering what that 90° rotating comes from, but it's plain stupid: the photoshop 'Cylindrical Stitching' algorithm was written to stitch shots taken horizontally, as a cylinder around the photographer, since we're producing Vertorama's here we just fool the algorithm by rotating our images 90°.

You

Chartwell was the principal adult home of Sir Winston Churchill. Churchill and his wife Clementine bought the property, located two miles south of Westerham, Kent, England, in 1922. Extensive renovations simplifying and modernising the home were undertaken directly, completely transforming it when complete. When it became clear to the Churchills in 1946 that they could not afford to run the property, a consortium of wealthy businessmen organised by Lord Camrose purchased the estate. The arrangement was that for payment of nominal rent both Sir Winston and Lady Churchill would have the right to live there until they both died, at which point the property would be presented to the National Trust. When Sir Winston died in 1965, Clementine decided to present Chartwell to the National Trust immediately. The site had been built upon at least as early as the 16th century, when the estate had been called 'Well Street'. Henry VIII is reputed to have stayed in the house during his courtship of Anne Boleyn at nearby Hever Castle. The original farmhouse was significantly enlarged and modified during the 19th century. It became, according to the National Trust, an example of 'Victorian architecture at its least attractive, a ponderous red-brick country mansion of tile-hung gables and poky oriel windows'. The estate derives its name from the well to the north of the house called 'Chart Well'. 'Chart' is an Old English word for rough ground. The highest point of the estate is approximately 650 feet above sea level, and the house commands a spectacular view across the Weald of Kent. This view 'possessed Churchill' and was certainly an important factor in persuading him to buy a house of 'no great architectural merit'. Churchill employed architect Philip Tilden to modernise and extend the house. Tilden worked between 1922 and 1924, simplifying and modernising, as well as allowing more light into the house through large casement windows. He worked in the gently vernacular architecture tradition that is familiar in the early houses of Edwin Lutyens, a style stripped of literal Tudor Revival historicising details but retaining multiple gables with stepped gable ends, and windows in strips set in expanses of warm pink brick hung with climbers. Tilden's work completely transformed the house. Similarly to many early 20th century refurbishments of old estates, the immediate grounds, which fall away behind the house, were shaped into overlapping rectilinear terraces and garden plats, in lawn and mixed herbaceous gardens in the Lutyens-Jekyll manner, linked by steps descending to lakes that Churchill created by a series of small dams, the water garden where he fed his fish, Lady Churchill's Rose garden and the Golden Rose Walk, a Golden Wedding anniversary gift from their children. The garden areas provided inspiration for Churchill's paintings, many of which are on display in the house's garden studio. In 1938, Churchill was pressed to offer Chartwell for sale for financial reasons, at which time the house was advertised as containing 5 reception rooms, 19 bed and dressing rooms, 8 bathrooms, set in 80 acres with three cottages on the estate and a heated and floodlit swimming pool. He withdrew after industrialist Sir Henry Strakosch agreed to take over his share portfolio (which had suffered heavily from losses on Wall Street) for three years and pay off heavy debts. During the Second World War, the house was mostly unused. Its relatively exposed position, in a county so near across the English Channel to German occupied France, meant it was potentially vulnerable to a German airstrike or commando raid. The Churchills instead spent their weekends at Ditchley, Oxfordshire until security improvements were completed at the prime minister's official country residence, Chequers, in Buckinghamshire. The house has been preserved as it would have looked when Churchill owned it. Rooms are carefully decorated with memorabilia and gifts, the original furniture and books, as well as honours and medals that Churchill received. The house is Grade I listed for historical reasons. The gardens are listed Grade II.

The property is currently under the administration of the National Trust. Chartwell was bought by a group of Churchill's friends in 1946, with the Churchills paying a nominal rent, but was not open to the public until it was presented to the nation in 1966, one year after Churchill's death.

Wow.... this was a LOT more difficult than I expected it to be!! I'm not uber-happy with this shot, but.... after more than an hour of futzing with the composition/PoV and shooting 30 frames, I was getting pretty tired of the smell of asparagus and strawberries in my studio, and was getting pretty frustrated... so here it is, such as it is!! I guess we can stroke 'food photographer' off my list of possible career choices, lol.....

Really, my Flickr friends, there is a very fine line between the old year and the new, between 2010 and 2011. In fact it is an arbitrary imaginary artifact that is ultimately the result of our having ten fingers and ten toes and creating a decimal system. The earth rotates and revolves around our sun seamlessly. Where is the fine line? :D

What do you see in this abstract? I see an arrow pointing forward and upward! I hope, my dear friends, that the way forward is upbeat and joyous for you! I so appreciate your friendship! I cherish your enthusiasm and inspiration! You have made my

2010 full of beauty and wonder. I thank you from the depths of my heart!

And Happy Abstract Saturday! And Happy Sliders Sunday! :D

Here is a morsel that serves two purposes. The first purpose is that the owner of Quirkz of Art in Fall City, Washington asked why I had not yet posted a shot of Snoqualmie Falls when it was almost frozen a few years ago. Well, here it is. I do have a shot earlier in my photostream from this same day, however my processing skills have advanced since then. Here is my earlier attempt: www.flickr.com/photos/fresnatic/4185769401/ He also wanted to make sure that I get some cards and prints made up to put in the store!

The second purpose is that we have returned to the feel of Winter here in the Pacific Northwest. I know many of the people that live here in the northwest are complaining of the cold and rainy weather, but the alternative would be sweltering heat that many in the country typically have to endure this time of year. So I hope that this icy picture can maybe provide a brief reprieve from the heat!

The show last weekend went well at the Fall City days. I finally met one of my fellow Flickr contacts Wendy www.flickr.com/photos/snapsfromtheheart/ and her husband. If you have time, please visit her beautiful photo stream. I sold a few pieces and really was able to get my name out there! Fortunately the rain held off till the end of the day!

Anyways, this shot is from almost three years ago when we had almost an entire week of sub-freezing temperatures here in the Seattle area. Sub-freezing for an extended period of time is rare here in Seattle. Snoqualmie Falls throws up a lot of spray, which then freezes on the walls and creates a magical scene.

This is a combination of three exposures (-2,0, 2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then cropped in Photoshop. I also used the "Clone Stamp" extensively to remove the power station across the river. If you look closely at the old picture and this one, you will see that difference! I also ran through Topaz Adjust to regain some details. I "Dodged" and Burned" some of the highlights and shadows as well. I then moved to Lightroom and pulled back the saturation a bit, but was okay with a slight over the top color and a painterly look here. I wanted a piece of art and not just a photograph.

I hope you all like. Thank you for your views, comments and faves. I appreciate them. I have had a little more time to peruse my fellow Flickr Friends photo streams. Great work by you all! I am glad to be back a little more often now. Thank you for your patience if I have not yet visited your streams.

The second formation from the right in this photo is known as Finger Rock. At an elevation of 6,465 feet, the 100 foot high pinnacle is one of the most distinctive landmarks on the Pusch Ridge skyline as seen from Tucson. It resembles a closed hand with the index finger extended to make a # 1 sign. The official elevation of Tucson is 2,389 feet. The highest point in the Catalinas is Mount Lemmon at an elevation of 9,157 feet.
