Mont Blanc, in the Mont-Blanc massif, is the highest point of the Alps. With an altitude of 4,810 metres, it is the highest peak in Western Europe and the sixth highest on a continental level taking into account the Caucasus mountains, of which Elbrus is the highest peak.
The highest point in the community is the summit of the 988-meter-high Hohe Peißenberg. Because of its overwhelming panoramic view, it is also called the “Bavarian Rigi” or, much less often, “mons parnanssus”. It is considered the most beautiful panoramic mountain in Bavaria and is a popular destination. The mountain's early nicknames were "mons doctus" because of its scholarship and meteorological research. The majority of the inhabitants live on the south side of the mountain, another smaller part is on the west side (districts: Hetten and Buchschorn), a small proportion of the inhabitants is on the north and east sides.
The main town is on the left bank of the Ammer River. The Ammer flows through the Ammer Gorge below the south side of the village.
The first morning sunlight strikes the upper slopes of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), the seventh highest mountain in the world. The name Dhaulagiri means dazzling mountain in Nepali.

Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia at 6,961 meters (22,841 feet) above sea level and by extension the highest point in both the Western Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. It is located in the Andes, in the province of Mendoza, Argentina, and It is situated 112 kilometers northwest of its capital city, Mendoza. The summit is also located about 5 km from San Juan Province and 15 km from the international border with Chile;
It is one of the Seven Summits.
***
The origin of the name is contested; it is either from the Mapudungun Aconca-Hue, which refers to the Aconcagua River and means "comes from the other side", the Quechua Ackon Cahuak, meaning "'Sentinel of Stone", the Quechua Anco Cahuac, meaning "White Sentinel", or the Aymara Janq'u Q'awa, meaning "White Ravine".
The highest point is the 4,450 m high Cerro Arquitectos (Architects Hill), and the elevation of roads reaches higher than 4,310 meters (13,550 feet). About 270 lakes and lagoons can be found in the páramo of Cajas. Luspa is the largest of these lake and extends over 78 hectares with a maximum depth of 68 m at a perimeter of 5,161 m. Like the other lakes it is of glacial origin, and glaciation shaped the landscape of Cajas leaving U-shaped valleys and ravines. Cajas provides about 60% of the drinking water for the Cuenca area. Two of the four rivers of Cuenca originate from Cajas, the Tomebamba and Yanuncay rivers which eventually drain into the Amazon river.
One of the many names for the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies: Mt. Robson. Easy to see how it got this nickname. Like Denali and other high peaks Mt. Robson generates it's own weather, covering it most of the time.
Mount Robson (12,972 feet, 3,954 m) is the most prominent mountain in North America's Rocky Mountain range.
Mount Robson is the source of the longest river in British Columbia, the Fraser River. One of the great rivers on the continent.
This was by far the best shot I got of a mountain goat on my Alaska trip...:-))

A mushroom with two common names, it is also known as the Poached Egg fungus. Very common, edible after washing to remove gluten. I've tried these and they're not worth the effort.
This photo has been uploaded for enjoyment of the image not to aid in identification. Picking wild mushrooms to eat without expert knowledge will probably result in you dying.

info by Roger Phillips:
"The grandeur of the scene was but softened by the haze that hung over the valley-light as gossamer -and by the clouds that partially dimmed the highest lifts and mountains. This obscurity of vision but increased the awe with which I beheld it, and as I looked, a peculiar exalted sensation seemed to fill my whole being, and I found my eyes in tears with emotion"
Words of Lafayette Houghton Bunnell, after he discovered the beauty of Yosemite Park in March 1851.
I always wanted to capture the beauty and grandeur of this magnificent place covered by a white blanket of snow. For two consecutive years I traveled in the wintertime trying to capture this scene and unfortunately was never able to find snow in the park. With the flurry of crazy weather over the holidays I thought "this is my chance!" I decided to venture yet again in hopes of this picture and welcomed in the New Year at the Park.
I thank God for allowing me to be there to admire and capture the beauty of this amazing place. The 31st was a long day of travel flying from Miami, and then driving multiple hours to Yosemite, but I think this enchanted corner made the sacrifice worth it. I hope this panorama can make justice of this wonderful place by the Merced River.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead, and all the best for this 2016! Thanks for your friendship and support though the years.

I spotted a cutting when out on a work related journey and decided to scramble down to investigate. I found a wee railway!!!!!!!! Info below. :)
Leadhills is the home for Britain's highest narrow gauge adhesion railway, reaching 1,498 feet above sea level. Operated and managed by a team of dedicated enthusiasts, all of whom are volunteers, the railway welcomes visitors every weekend during the summer months.
The journey takes you from the station at Leadhills to the terminus at Glengonnar halt before returning back to the station. The train runs past the disused Glengonnar Mine, where minerals were first excavated in the 1450's. The narrow gauge track has been built on the original track bed of the Caledonian Railway and today runs a variety of historic industrial diesel locomotives.
The original railway closed in the late 1930s shortly after the mines in Wanlockhead had closed.
The railway currently stops at the border of South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

The highest point in Idaho at 12,662’/ 3859 m, Borah Peak (left) is unique in being primarily composed of limestone (most of the gray rock seen here) that was deposited at the bottom of an ocean 420 million years ago. The slightly younger reddish siltstones on the right side form some wonderful banded strata below the summit of Sacajawea Peak.
Also notable is the light colored band at the base of the mountain seen at the bottom of the picture. I initially assumed this was a road or a trail, but it’s a remnant of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that hit the area in 1983, the largest quake ever recorded in Idaho. The valley side of the fault dropped as much as 9’/ 2.7 m and the mountain side rose by as much as 3’ / 1 m, leaving a notable fault scarp 21 miles/ 34 km long.

“The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark and the second most visited monument in Paris, the basilica stands at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city.” It’s a beautiful church, both inside and out, and is visible from a great distance. If you’re brave enough to climb that hill, and then the many steps to the top of the church, the view of Paris rooftops and landmarks is breathtaking!
A happy couple at the summit of the rock at Haytor. They were brave to stand upright as it there was quite a blustery wind up there, however they didn't stay long, just enough to enjoy the panoramic views of Dartmoor before descending back to terra firma.

The North Face of Annapurna I (8,091 m), the 10th highest mountain in the world. First climbed by a French expedition lead by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal, who summited on the 3rd of June 1950 just before the monsoon storms arrived.
I took this shot just after sunrise, leaving a village called Ledar alone and hiking towards Chulu West to around 5,000 m altitude in order to see over the valleys seperating me from the Annapurna Massif. It was my first view of Annapurna I of this trip and it felt incredible to finally see the mountain about which I had read so much. Although I was so high and surrounded by ice, the sun was incredibly hot, the silence punctuated only by the cracking and groaning sounds of the seracs of Chulu West (6,419 m) so close behind me.
