Black-and-white Warbler [Mniotilta varia]

Fort Washington State Park

Flourtown, PA

1535*

Here are some glimpses of the lands around the town of Far Harbor, I have been enjoying exploring them on survival difficulty which makes the dangers that lurk in the mist all the more tense to face and the mysterious atmosphere is great. Among the mist one hears odd noises, glowing flecks dance in the mist, swirling on the wind that travels from the surrounding sea.

Here are another picture of the very nice cascades near Soubey (Jura, Switzerland). With all the snow melting above, in the Franches-Montagnes, it was a real flood.

As you can see on this shot, the framing is rather unperfect : the left side is kind of messy and blurry, there's this perspective in the upper right corner that could have been intensified. Moreover, it's not totally at horizon level : all I had to do was to go a little lower with the tripod rotate the camera. That was my first plan.

The problem was : I wore shitty shoes and I stood upon a slippery rock covered with moss. What had to happen happened : I slipped, the tripod slipped and my 100D fall directly in the water in a very nice "sloosh".

Fortunately, it remained in the water less than 5 seconds and the screen was still showing this picture when I removed the battery. It is now in a kilogramme of long grain USA parboiled rice, and will stay there until tomorrow evening. I hope it will manage to dry it completely. I have some hope to save it ...

However, saving the lens would probably be a miracle, but I try anyway with the same trick ... Now I just have to wait, pray and see ...

So I am happy to show you this very last shot of my (maybe) dead buddy. I hope I did not became a photographer without a camera ...

---------------------------------------------------------

This picture was explored on the 2nd of March 2016 ! Thank you really much for your kind messages !

And now : the end of the story : I tried the camera this morning. The body seem to work perfectly fine. The lens AF and stabilizer work as well, but there's some dirt on the lenses inside, so I'll probably have to make it clean. Then, it's always possible to have some rust on electronic components. I'll see in the future.

So the rice trick works, but I definitely think that what saved my camera is the fact that I removed the battery very quickly. What you don't want is some short-circuits on electronic components that heat and burn after a few seconds (they are small, so it can happen really fast). Without electrical power, much less risk to get damages.

Thank you anyway for your support !

Das Gut Schede im westfälischen Herdecke (Ruhr) ist ein Adelssitz und heutiger Bauernhof, der bis auf das 9. Jahrhundert zurückgeht und auch Haus Schede genannt wird.

The Schede estate in Herdecke (Ruhr), Westphalia, is a noble residence and present-day farm that dates back to the 9th century and is also called Haus Schede.

Here's my special gift for your 50s

Here's the national flower of Chile. A stunner called Copihue or Upside Down in Spanish derived from the Kopiwe of a native language called Mapudungun. It was first collected and described by Hippólito Ruiz López and José Antonio Pavón Jiménez, premier botanists of the Botanical Expedition to the Viceregency of Peru (1777-1788) in 1802. Though it is a very beautiful plant, it was only introduced to England in the middle of the nineteenth century. It was named for Napoleon's Empress Joséphine, whose earlier name was Marie-Josèphe-Rose de Tascher de La Pagerie. When it was first cultivated in Amsterdam I don't know; but this year it's part of an exhibition devoted to Empress Joséphine's gardens.

PS I expect to be more diligent on Flickr soon now that things are becoming less busy... Sorry for not having been able to post or to comment the last week or so...

Here folks we have the second in the changing places series and he did make it safely, thank you again for everything.

Continuing the Elegant Trogon Saga: After the male called from within the hole, he left to sit near it on a branch. he defended it from a hairy woodpecker, calling all the while, and I missed his takeoff. I was aiming at the male once he set down again hoping to capture a flight shot when all of the sudden he jumped and I swung trying to follow. Clearly, I missed him - his beak is on the top right corner in the first image and his tail in the next - but the female just swans by to inspect the new property and popped right into the frame! My luckiest shots ever!!!

Here I am once again out on a full moon in Erieau. Still waters, clouds gently moving over the moon, and believe it or not above freezing.

2 minutes at f5.6 100 ISO was just right for the bright moonlit night...

well, at least one.

"The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It is located on the Passeig de Gràcia in the Eixample district, and forms part of a row of houses known as the Illa de la Discòrdia (or Mansana de la Discòrdia, the "Block of Discord"), which consists of four buildings by noted Modernista architects of Barcelona.

[...]

It seems that the goal of the designer was to avoid straight lines completely. Much of the façade is decorated with a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles (trencadís) that starts in shades of golden orange moving into greenish blues. The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of centre, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, Gaudí's home), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon." (Wikipedia)

"Das im Jahr 1877 errichtete Gebäude wurde für den Textilindustriellen Josep Batlló i Casanovas in den Jahren 1904 bis 1906 im Stile des Modernisme von Grund auf umgebaut. Gaudí arbeitete dabei mit Josep Maria Jujol und Joan Rubió i Bellver zusammen. Darüber hinaus waren an der Ausgestaltung die Bildhauer Joan Beltran, Josep Llimona, Carles Maní i Roig, Joan Matamala i Flotats und Llorenç Matamala i Pinyol beteiligt.

Before we went on vacation we had some beautiful hoar frost, so I had to take the dogs out to the park to play.

I was going to wait until I returned from vacation to post this shot, but I just found out that I was accepted into the "52 weeks for dogs" group and wanted to use this shot to introduce Oliver to everyone over there.

Here's a female Hooded Merganser with HER crayfish. You can see the object here is to break those legs off for easier swallowing. Her hood is a bit flat here but when fully fluffed, she's a knockout. The first sign I get for female vs immature/nonbreeding male is the yellowy color in her beak, while the male's is solid black. Second is the deep brown eye, vs. the male's golden eye.

The first time I eventually realized when I was looking at a nonbreeding male, he was with some breeders and seemed to be practicing his moves and I thought it was a misguided female. Only later did I get it.

Here is a car that my Uncle has owned for a long time and is one of his favorites.

This 1957 Chevrolet Corvette has been slightly modified and upgraded.

At one point he shaved the two faux vent scoops atop the front fenders near the windshield to give the car smoother appearance.

Maple Leaves,turning a Golden Orange.

Here is the color situation in Milton, NH as of Wednesday. Many of the area swamp Maples have turned color and died off already, but most of the rest is still pretty green. A solid string of painted 300's looked good behind the three 38-2's nonetheless.

Here in Florida we never have a bad sunset. This was a good ending to a Christmas Eve.

Dear Jasper,

An inferno is burning a forest 30 miles from where I live. This forest is dear to me. I found solace in her trails many a days. Here, I saw a fawn stare at me curiously. I saw red polka dotted mushrooms on her floor. I saw spider webs and I heard birds. Here in this forest, I saw delicate life thrive despite the cruelties of time. But now, she is burning. Firefighters are calling this inferno the ‘Pedro fire’. Pedro means nothing to me. The burning forest does. Nostalgia reeks when it burns.

But then Walt Whitman said, ‘the smallest sprout shows there is really no death’.

The circle of life watches over every forest. Grass grows on every grave. The end is just another beginning. Restoration of the scalded land by time and life is a thing of heavenly beauty. Everything starts over. Everyone therefore must start over as well. You too! Despite all you endured in the past couple of weeks, you too will find the strength to start over!

I brought you a gift, Jasper! Here is the photo of a place quite close to you. This place too was recently reduced to ashes. But see above, the fire could not stop her from flowing! As Whitman said, ‘All goes onward and outward–nothing collapses’. You too will rise from your ashes. Nothing collapses. Especially, when we hold and protect each other in our primordial communion, nothing collapses.

One more thing before I go. You are one of those few places that refuse to leave me long after I visit them. They stay in me. Like you do. If I close my eyes and think about your mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, forests, trails, and streets, I hear you softly whisper. “You are here!" And I find myself there with you. Now, it is my turn to whisper... Jasper, you beauty, You too are here ! Alive! And you shall flourish again!

With all my love,

Thuringian Woods in January. What a beauty. Especially in this region with less snow over the last years.

Here is yesterday's Coyote, stretching just prior to the strange head roll and bow and bizarre facial expression. She appears to have dried blood on the side of her face, not her own blood - she probably had a prairie dog for breakfast. She's just a messy eater, and her tongue won't reach that far back, and there's no dewy grass to roll in or open water to help her wash her face. She needs to find a mate to lick it off.

Happy almost Halloween! ❥

Happy Shocktober! 👻

edit: Halloween is my favorite holiday these days, but I'm off my game this year. Too much other stuff going on. Have a few fun pics I wanted to post for Halloween... Arg... Next year, I'm going to start posting Halloween stuff early October. That's the plan. ;-)

This is the second time I've photographed this house in New West and it has given me a thrill each time. I love the colour combo, it must look even better with blooming flowers in the window box, will try to visit it again in the Spring months.

Here are some new pictures of my "Skull´s Deamon" droid part sculpture, 99% made of droid parts.

I added some new details and made better pictures.

Wall art on Aberdeen market for the Nuart Festival

Here in rural Ontario we not only get black flies at the onset of spring along with mosquitos right through until fall but, we also get deer flies. They are a stupid insect as they land on you and before they can take a bite you have time to swat them. If they do happen to get a bite well, they take chunks out of you.

This fella was seen here on my little compost pail in the kitchen this morning and as it is macro Monday well, he was fair game for me. I managed to get quite a number of "portraits" of him before I took him on the lid and sent him packing out the door.

I may not always get to thank you for every fave or reply to a comment that you might leave here on my image but, just know each comment is read and very much appreciated.
