Here you can see another photo from my morning hike up the Hoher Schneeberg in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. This time with an almost unobstructed view (that means there is no one sitting there blocking the view) over the sea of fog colored golden by the sun.
By the way, somewhere down there, between the trees and the mountain peaks rising out of the fog, lies the town of Děčín, which I showed you yesterday.
It's really impressive how different the atmosphere of these two photos is. And the two recordings are only separated by two hours and perhaps 5-10 kilometers. And of course a few meters difference in altitude too.

Here's a fun shot. As I was walking past the dock at Eagles Lake, I saw an alligator slowly cruising through the water towards to dock. As I knew he often sunned himself there, I prepared myself to catch him lifting up. I was able to click off several shots. I think this is the best one. Actually, he was coming out to meet me and say hello. See him smile in anticipation!
Here is the single image at f/2.8 that I took and used for overlaying the heads at f/22. The shallow DOF here alone works very well also I think.
Thoughts?
Happy Macro Monday
Here's another photo from our trip to the beach on Sunday. It is so completely "east coast" to me. You would never see houses like this on the beach in southern California and I don't ever remember seeing sand fences at the beaches when I was growing up.
We are expecting our first snow storm of the season starting this afternoon and continuing through the night. This is why we wanted to take advantage of the weather on Sunday. The calendar may say that winter is officially a week away but it sure feels like winter outside!
Here the capture is well after sunset, and what looks like sunset lighting is more residual lighting from the lights of Baltimore City on the clouds. Makes for a pretty effect at this time of day in the very late evening blue hour.
I liked this comp here where both piers are pointing to the groups of lights that are on the far side of the river.

I am still playing with the idea of flight and flying. This idea came to me out of the blue and then took some futzing around to pull together. I had fun and frustration creating it. The making of the image put a lot of stress on my computer and it slowed down a lot. I also broke my mouse and had to use my laptop sensor for the "cutting out" work. Regardless, I used a few techniques I haven't visited in a while on this one and that was kinda cool for me.
I thought this worked for the ODC- nature abstract on a couple of levels

Here's a view looking southwest from the Raven's Roost Overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Nelson County, Virginia. Despite last week's warm weather, the view was fairly clear that afternoon.
The sun comes back - The mountains are not only majestic but also have many faces. The weather conditions here can change in a very short space of time. This was also the case on the afternoon when I was on my way back from the ice to the valley. A beautiful memory of an eventful hike.
