During a DVC Member night at Disney's Animal Kingdom, there was a fantastic sunset that lit up behind Everest.
Why this is so special is, in my opinion, because normally the "best" sunset light in Animal Kingdom is over Harambe Village and the Lion King Theater, because that is the west side of the park. To get such fantastic color over the eastern-side Everest is an uncommon occurrence.
Animal Kingdom Safari
Kilimanjaro Safaris is a safari attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It simulates an open-sided safari ride through the savanna of East Africa. The current story is a short photo safari aboard a safari vehicle through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve in Harambe, East Africa. It is 800 square miles (2,100 km2) of natural terrain, including Ituri forest, wetlands of the Safi River valley, and the open bush country of the Serengeti Savanna. African animals on view include real live elephants, giraffes, antelopes, gazelles, crocodiles, monkeys, hippopotamuses, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, african wild dogs, warthogs, ostriches, rhinoceroses, ducks, storks, pelicans, flamingos, wildebeests, okapis and zebras.
The game driver points out animals and provides entertainment. The zebras were removed four months after their arrival due to "acclimation" issues. Some reports claim that the zebras were fighting each other, biting at vehicles or each other, standing in the road, or just causing trouble. They were quickly replaced with addax. Recently, the zebras have been reinstated, and can be viewed during the course of the safari.
Realized I had yet to post an Animal Kingdom shot since I got back. I took this while on a photowalk with Kiki, during which she had an idea. She said, "Let's stay within these parameters, and not leave until we have 12 unique shots." I kind of laughed at first, thinking 12 shots was nothing since I already had thousands on my hard drive at home at this point. Let me tell you something, this was MUCH harder than I imagined. It really made me think, and use my creative eye. And some of those 12 shots are some of my favorites from that day. So, if you ever get into a creative funk, try something like that out, and then thank Kiki. Thanks for lookin', and have a great day!

Seeing as it's 1:16AM where I come from, and I can't sleep, I edit photos. Until tonight, I hadn't touched my shots from Kilimanjaro Safaris. And as I was going through them, I noticed something. I take the Animal Kingdom for granted. And I know that a lot of other people are worse than I am. Some people say that AK is a "half day" park. And that kind of gets to me. I mean, it's not often that we get to immerse ourselves in the architecture of Asia or Africa, in which the Imagineers really outdid themselves. And secondly, where else can we be exposed to these beautiful creatures that share our Earth with us in such a capacity? I know that the zoos around me don't have any real open air exhibits, especially ones that mimic a real photo safari through an African savannah. So from here on out, I promise to myself that I will soak in all of AK that I can, and approach it differently than the other 3 WDW parks. And I encourage you to do the same!
As for the shot, these guys were literally just chillin' like 5 feet from the safari vehicle, completely not phased or shaken up by the gigantic vehicle passing. Thanks for lookin', and have a great day!

Architectural details in the Harambe Market at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Here in Florida, we sure have been getting an abundance of fresh water pouring from the sky accompanied by frequent and intense lightning.

"Your entrance into Africa is through the friendly, welcoming village of Harambe. Harambe is Swahili for “come together.” Interestingly enough, this village is a combination of a number of some of the favorite places in Africa found by Disney Imagineers whilst on a scouting trip for Animal Kingdom’s Africa."

One of my favorite bands to listen to in all of Walt Disney World is the Burudika band in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom. Burudika is Swahili for "to be refreshed". Check them out next time you are there. Thanks for checking out my shot!

At Animal Kingdom, we headed straight to Kilimanjaro Safaris, where we hopped in a truck for a guided tour of their Harambe Wildlife Reserve. It was like a mini African safari in the middle of Florida. We saw lots of animals as we drove through the preserve, including hippos
Enjoy one of our modern, comfortable safari vehicles for a day excursion into the beautiful Harambe Wildlife Reserve.
I really enjoy all of the little details at Animal Kingdom. The park is absolutely loaded with them, and they are aged perfectly to look authentic. I would almost say that may favorite part about Animal Kingdom is just being in such a detailed environment. Harambe is amazing, and the textures and colors make everything feel so real and like you really have been transported to a remote village while on Safari.
I also like how they use the attractions in the "advertising." It works well for Disney to get people excited for the attractions, and it works for the guests to continue to sell the story.

This is my new favorite view in Disney's Animal Kingdom (at least, the most photogenic right now). Ever since Harambe expanded to include the Lion King theater, the opposite side of the bridge with the view of Everest provides an at least equally and arguably more attractive vista.
This is a three exposure HDR shot, processed in Photomatix and touched up in Lightroom.
