Animal Kingdom Safari
Kilimanjaro Safaris is a safari attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It simulates an open-sided safari ride through the savanna of East Africa. The current story is a short photo safari aboard a safari vehicle through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve in Harambe, East Africa. It is 800 square miles (2,100 km2) of natural terrain, including Ituri forest, wetlands of the Safi River valley, and the open bush country of the Serengeti Savanna. African animals on view include real live elephants, giraffes, antelopes, gazelles, crocodiles, monkeys, hippopotamuses, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, african wild dogs, warthogs, ostriches, rhinoceroses, ducks, storks, pelicans, flamingos, wildebeests, okapis and zebras.
The game driver points out animals and provides entertainment. The zebras were removed four months after their arrival due to "acclimation" issues. Some reports claim that the zebras were fighting each other, biting at vehicles or each other, standing in the road, or just causing trouble. They were quickly replaced with addax. Recently, the zebras have been reinstated, and can be viewed during the course of the safari.

In looking through my photos, I didn't come up with anything closely related to Thanksgiving. So I instead present to you a sign that reads EAT.
To everyone in the USA, have a great Thanksgiving.

I'm not sure if this sign detail still exists outside of the Kilimanjaro Safari ride but I thought it was cool when I captured it on digital film back in 2011.

Animal Kingdom is probably my favorite Disney theme park and Africa is my favorite section. This is a photo of the lead singer of the band in the Harambe Street Party. The music is full of energy and the band really gets the crowd going. The Tusker House restaurant is across the street and they feature an outside bar. This is a great place to enjoy some adult beverages while listening to the band play and watching the people dance.
Enjoy the day!

OK, I think I'm finally done playing with this photo. While making the B&W version, I thought that this is really what I was looking for all-along.

This building in Harambe Village has always been a bit of a mystery. It looks like a tower that you might find attached to a castle. It has a silhouette of an elephant next to the letter A on the wall. It it perhaps a reminder of the days when the British Army occupied the area?
One of the biggest highlights for me on our vacation trip to Disney World this year was the encounter with the Lions at Pride Rock on the Kilimanjaro Safari at Animal Kingdom. This large male stood at this location and made numerous 'calls' just as our vehicle stopped. Absolutely amazing to watch and experience...

As I walked around Animal Kingdom during Extra Magic Hours, I was like a kid in a candy store. Everyone that was in the park that night was at Everest or Dinosaur. So, when I walked the path from Asia to Africa, then from Africa to the Tree of Life, and then to the front entrance, I didn't see a park guest for 45 minutes. I also only saw 7 Cast Members. 2 of them were nice enough to move to the side for this shot (they were blocking people from entering Harambe). Definitely a surreal feeling being there feeling like you own the park and have it all to yourself. Thanks for lookin', and have a great day!

Have you been to the new Harambe Theatre?
One of the places I go every time I come to Animal Kingdom is the Harambe Theatre to see the Festival of the Lion King. I love this show and it makes me feel so good after. This theatre is so beautiful. A friend of mine said this about it and I have to agree., "Even though it's quite new, it feels as though it's been here since day one." The are is very well designed.
