Crossed paths with a cute (albeit grumpy-looking) juvenile Gopher Tortoise at a local park. He/she was busy munching away on greenery and was relatively unphased by my presence, pausing only for a second as I knelt on the ground with my camera. I snapped a handful of photos and quietly observed from a distance. And before I moved on, I made sure to tell him/her how cute they were. 😍
The Gopher Tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) is a native species to Florida and is protected by law. Although it doesn’t happen often because human development encroaches on their habitat, it’s always a delight to see these creatures in the wild. 🐢

18.5.15... littlest F had some friends round and despite my best efforts poor Tilly was getting harrassed by over excited four year olds. I put her outside in the rain to get some peace but she was not impressed! Tribute to Ginger Affinity
The full version of a 1954 chevy pick up I posted last time. I just LOVE this truck! It was shot at a gas station so I had to play with it a bit.
Edited using different florabella actions... also taken on a different day, hence, different light.
Due to a shortage in horsepower on the day, LVR owned locomotives 4716 and 4702 were quickly put to work to run a container train to Port Botany and back to Enfield for SSR on one of their Linx shuttles. T171 is seen here departing Botany after loading a few boxes.

This old man was sitting on the bench, I ask if I could take his picture. he said "Yeah, go ahead", and then gave me this grumpy face. He would not give me his name...
Grumpy only because this American Toad had to pose so long for its photography shoot, and it wanted to keep jumping away, but the darn photographer kept bringing it back for a few more shots! It finally did find its freedom and hopped through the grass and into the woods :)
I gave you two Fun Facts a week ago on this same species but here are TWO MORE FUN FACTS about American Toads:
1. They recycle their own "outfits"
As a toad grows, its skin doesn't stretch, so it must shed the old layer every few weeks. It uses its legs to pull the skin over its head like a sweater. To save nutrients, the toad usually eats the old skin immediately.
2. They have built-in chemical armor
The large bumps behind a toad's eyes are actually glands that produce a bitter toxin. If a predator tries to bite them, these glands release a milky substance that tastes terrible. This defense ensures most animals only try to eat an American Toad once.
With failing light (for landscape photography) I suggested to Iain that we made our last stop at Troup Head Nature Reserve to check out his new lens. Well out of my comfort zone, both perched on a cliff edge and shooting things that move, I have to admit to it being an enjoyable hour or so; I even managed a few half decent shots of these elegant birds in flight. My favourite image though was of this particular gannet who seemed non too pleased with my camera pointed at 'him'.
Piccadilly Circus, together with Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square, is one of the most famous squares in London. Regardless of the time, it is always pleasantly busy at Piccadilly Circus. It is best known for its huge video screens with advertising and dazzling neon lighting. The square is therefore regularly compared to another famous square with neon signs, Times Square in New York.
Because of its feather creases this catbird has a very grumpy look, and he may actually have been kind of grumpy on this day. i was photographing a painted bunting when this catbird landed at my eye level in a nearby tree behind me - and began making loud noises. He was louder than a cat and indeed seemed grumpy. So, i turned around and took its picture. The bird then got quiet and flew off.
What was it all about? i'm sure the bird wasn't calling me away from the bunting to take its pic instead.... or maybe ... aww.
