Striated heron (sometimes called mangrove heron Butorides striata) hunts for fish by perching on a low mangrove branch just above the water. Gripping the branch with its large feet it catches with small fish in the water below. Note a couple drops of water splashed on its chest. This really is fishing without getting wet. CN / IC GP38-2 9614 leads three other standard-cab EMDs- a former Illinois Central SD40-2 and GP38-2, plus an ex-Oakway SD60- westward on the ex-EJ&E, now the Matteson Sub. The train is a Gary, IN (Kirk Yard) to Joliet, IL local.

Feeding time for the Elk Youngster in San Simeon, California.

Time to practice with some "dragonflies in flight". There were a few at the Albuquerque Botanic Gardens but will only increase in numbers as it starts to warm up.

She SOOOOO reminds me of the Gerber baby in this shot.

Got to visit one of my favorite places out in the Gorge on Saturday with my friends Greg and Jeff. Happy Waterfall Wednesday and thanks for lookin.

This Green Heron was seen in the Japanese Garden on Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys CA. It had slowly crept up to the water's edge, keeping low to the ground, and then suddenly dived forward to successfully capture a "tidbit" in its beak - such a small reward for all that effort !! It successfully continued its hunt for "tidbits" along the water's edge ! This "Greenie" did seem much smaller than other Green herons I've seen - hopefully it graduates to larger meals as time goes by !

I drove down from Perth to Busselton today. After checking in to my accommodation for the next two days I headed out to check out Sugarloaf Rock for sunset. This was my first time to this location, I got there early to have a bit of a scout around, the sky was looking promising for a colourful sunset early on, but then the clouds closed in. There wasn't much colour, but I think the overcast sky suited the location just as well.

A resident on Mill Lake feeds the birds. Usually I see lots of other birds going back and forth getting food. First time I spotted a Red-breasted Nuthatch and it's partner grabbing a treat.

spotted this fishing bobber in the water... maybe a fish took the bait...

The air I breath that you exhale,

makes me feel like something stale,

the room is filled with your smoke,

why do you have to smoke?

It gets in my lungs and up my nose,

you can even smell it on my clothes,

living with you is no joke,

why on earth do you have to smoke?

It annoys me when you flick your ash,

and all that wasted hard earned cash,

you borrow some money when your broke,

why oh why do you have to smoke?

When you have that craving for a fag,

and you search for a cigarette in your handbag,

for your lungs you need to stoke,

just why do you have to smoke?

When asked to quit, you always had an answer,

not any more, you died of lung cancer,

now in hell, the Devils fire you eternally stoke,

just why the hell did you have to smoke!

I crouched down and got this shot in a puddle of water.

This goes well with hot white rice! You've really got to try this sauteed with garlic, it's delicious!

I couldn't think of what photo to upload so I just decided to copy the 1 who tagged me. (Plus it's been a long time since I've done a mosaic. ;oP) Thanks Lette. I'll pay you back somehow. ;oP

I`ll be in and out of local shots and Northumberland for a while now.

This was taken early the Sunday before last, We wanted to get a dog walk in before it got hot once again and so glad we did too, I shot a number of images as the sky was amazing with nice cool spots of rain which did not come to anything.

We have a nice wild flower meadow near us which made a nice foreground to that amazing sky, shoot for the highlights . Always have your camera with you as you never know when a shot will present itself.
