On a quiet Sunday afternoon an Alaska Railroad GP40-2 (built new for the railroad in Jul. 1978) sits just north of the diesel shop next to the wheel garden on the back shop lead track. At this time the 3012 was still wearing the classic 'Alaska Bold' scheme that she was delivered in (albeit with a US DOT emblem on the nose) and was the last GP40-2 wearing this scheme when she was repainted into the modern image 'Baby MAC' livery in 2014.
The ARR buys wheel blanks of assorted sizes that are shipped up in boxcars and then pressed them on to axles in the wheel shop.

Got all my rolls back from various labs this weekend. Gotta scan the b/w rolls, and sort out all the xpro and C-41 shots, do some dust-busting, organise and upload them.....blah blah blah.....
...but in the meantime here's my initial pick of the bunch. Taken on a walk a few weeks ago - on a bit of a nothing day - around Frithsden and Nettleden, Hertfordshire.
Am gonna make a return trip later in the summer when the wheat(?) is all golden.

The Eden Project in Cornwall, England....Not a secret bunker where aliens are or out of this world experiments take place..... LOL
Here is the website of the The Eden Project. The place is well worth a visit. The Biodome you see here houses all sorts of tropical plants and the temperature in there is very hot. My lense steamed up as soon as I got in there. The other biodome (which is not pictured here but looks exactly the same), has a more mediterranean feeling to it.

I hiked Mauna Loa yesterday and arrived back at the car minutes before sunset. I rushed to set up my camera and big lens, and I got this photo of the last light hitting Mauna Kea. The blowing clouds frequently blocked the view, but they parted at the perfect moment and revealed this.

Buddy was bringing it today. I think it was the catnip, but he was more relaxed than usual, and often looked at the camera. It was hard to say goodbye to him, as he followed me toward my car, meowing. I had to give him some more catnip, to distract him.

Great Blue Heron - Florida Everglades

*[The great-blue heron stands in shallow water a few feet from the shoreline, completely 'motionless'. The fish does not see its long legs and swims near. With a 'lightning-strike' of a 'spearing bill-thrust' it jabs and rarely-misses! Quite a shock for the un-assuming fish! Then, for what-ever reason (and I have seen this many times), it walks around 'with it' for 20-30 minutes, perhaps waiting for the fish to succumb to being out of the water (and calming down). Then, it flips-it up in the air and swallows it whole (fish-head down - GBH's have no teeth). A lump appears in its neck until it is fully swallowed, and then the heron sometimes takes a sip of water to wash it down. Other times it 'just flies off', very, very satisfied!! Thanks for looking]

Many people ask how to paint muscles on figures.
I tell them the same thing every time, "Use an actual muscle torso for reference."
I made this torso (red) with the help of the Green Lantern torso. it's not perfect but it is very similar and does the job for what I want it to look like.
Just remember to use a thin tipped tool, whether that's a pocket knife or a tooth pick it doesn't matter as long as the lines are thin enough. :)

We got home from Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks yesterday. Jasper stayed with a family in the neighborhood since dogs can't go most places in our national parks. As is typical, I didn't shave over vacation so I figured since we're both furry faced and both have blue merle hair/fur I'd do a SWAD (Selfie With A Dog). Good to be back home with the boy. Native Masked Bee (Hylaeus Rhodohylaeus) female
While wandering around the garden today I spotted both male and female Masked Bees. Today she decided to rest for a while so I was able to get a shot, albeit from a distance. So this image has been cropped.
As our plans were ruined (a visit to Plymouth Hoe) on the weekend due to the weather we decided to take the girls up on to the hoe after school.
Bethany had bought herself some rollerskates with money that she had saved, she wanted to practice skating on the promenade and Imogen wanted to ride on her scooter that she got for Christmas.
When we got on to the hoe we got slightly windswept , we couldn't believe how windy it was, which also meant looking out we could see just how rough the sea still is.
It was a lovely but a very cold hour spent together.
