Got to love photography bald eagles. They seem so powerful when captured in a portrait shot.

I'm not sure what type of Sparrow this little guy is. Anyone have an idea? I thought it might be a Golden-crowned Sparrow but I don't think they have yellow on the face, only on the crown.
For the Bird ID group, this fellow was seen at the mouth of the Dungeness River, Sequim Washington, USA on 4-14-12. Thanks for your help.

Another capture of the young Gyrfalcon at the horse market at Ludwigsburg. The birds were so wet after the heavy rain that the falconers only could go on with their show after about an hour when the birds had more or less dried off. They are able to fly when they are wet but it's difficult and energy sapping for them.

The Dakota, Missouri Valley & Western does.
At first look, yeah, it's a BNSF grain train, but in this shot at Stirum, ND, and it is not. It's a Red River Valley & Western grain train that was handed to the Casselton crew at Casselton, ND. They ran it south to Davenport, hung a right and went west to Independence. There they turned left and headed straight to Oakes, ND. Once there, they turned left again onto the line to Wahpeton. There a DMV&W crewman got into the DPU on the rear and then backed into town. Once there, the DPU cut off and two DMV&W SD40-2F's grabbed the train and pulled it onto their line toward Bismark. Once completely on the line, it was shoved back over the RRV&W diamond and to the Ategra CO-OP where it would be loaded. The RRV&W crew, originating out of Wahpeton in the morning, had brought along their power, (which I shot earlier), for the ride to to Oakes, trailing the DPU. They got on that power and headed east for Wahpeton. The BNSF power got put together and set aside for what you see in my shot.
Unfortunately, I did not witness the Santa Fe Warbonnet leading into Oakes until they were already there. The DMV&W was taking up my time. Things were set up for it to lead the next morning, however, as you see, the 777 became the trailing unit. The RRV&W crew must have turned the power at Oakes and this is what was handed to me.
So, Oakes, ND had a 118 car DMV&W train arrive and then bring in another 100 car from the RRV&W to be loaded there. They had their work cut out for them, but the BNSF train was loaded in 12 hours and out of town by noon the next day!
Many thanks to the DMV&W track man who said, "They should be leaving town, now"
There is a lot going on in these parts on the regional carriers, and one has to think just how long it will be before the "big guys" offer the "little guys" who made it all work, a ton of dough to take the over.
This was just something I got killing time while the big steam locomotive was laying over and was actually a nice fully lit scene...but alas the clouds didn't cooperate at train time.
In addition to the 2102 trip and all the regularly scheduled weekend trains and normal LGSR trips the Reading and Northern also had another special passenger train out running on this busy day. In conjunction with the Mahanoy City Community Days celebration they ran three round trip public excursions from that historic coal mining town to Tamaqua and back via the normally freight only Mahanoy and Shamokin Branch. The train consisted of five coaches and a caboose bracketed between GP38-2s 2014 and 2015 and operated as symbol JTMA/MAJT. The 3 PM third trip of the day has just departed on its way to Tamaqua as it rolls past some early fall color in Mahanoy City in this going away view west of the North 8th Street overpass near MP 108.9 on the branch.
Per Trains magazine: The M&S Branch was once part of the Reading Railroad’s main line from Philadelphia to Shamokin, Pa., and beyond to Williamsport, Pa., route of the onetime flyers King Coal and Williamsporter. [Note: technically the RDG main officially ran from Philadelphia to Pottsville and all other territory inlcluding this was considered a branch.] In the 1920s, 14 weekday passenger trains served the line and later many of Reading’s 51 steam-powered Iron Horse Rambles (1959-1964) also traveled this route. Scheduled passenger service on the M&S ended when the remnant of the King Coal made its final run on June 28, 1963.
