This Marbled Godwit was seen foraging at Malibu Lagoon. I was amazed at its success rate !

The nose and cab of a D&RGW GP40-2 show modifications performed in Rio Grande's Burnham Shops in Denver, Colorado. Additions include a roof mounted beacon, ditch lights, and replacement number boards. The 3124 is pictured in the old Rio Grande 'Transfer' yard in Ogden, Utah on May 1, 1993.
I got back Sunday evening from camping with some friends/photogs on Capers Island, SC near Charleston. We had a blast and the weather was darn near perfect. It was even a little hot on Saturday. The downside of being down there, near the forest and swampy water....bugs. We had a crazy time keeping the mosquitos, noseeums and even ticks off us. Of course I've discovered ThermaCell since I've gotten back, and I will be getting one before trying that again. I know I got bit at least a hundred times over the 48hrs. Anyway, from a photography standpoint, it was a decently successful trip and I think I'll have a few shots to share. This one was from Saturday evening, well past sunset. Earlier in the day, I kept looking at the high clouds, hoping it might explode later....and it eventually did.

I've been after a shot like this all summer. My first attempt at beards tongue failed miserably as, in my haste and excitement, I used the wrong soil and fertilizer. Discarding those dying plants, I let my dear wife pick out a more suitable plant, and behold - blooms that are lasting! The next step was sitting on the deck and waiting as Auto Capture does not work with blossoms moving in the wind. This little one made the rounds and luckily I was able to catch her in just the right position. Now....... I want more!

Today my neighbour Buikschuivers and I had a little Flickr meeting at the zoo with Edgar Thissen. It was wonderful to meet him and see him in action. We had a great time and we hope to meet again:)

The really unreal blue of the Shyok river...seen to be believed. I have seen it a muddy brown in my earlier visits in summer, but it was exceptional this time.
A re-visit from our plum stealing mule deer. Apparently he's got an itch that just won't quit and this vegetation variety offers the best relief. The eyes say it all 'Oh yes yes yes".
After trying for ten years and not successful in trapping this feral tomcat, homeowners called me to help. Thanks to my trusty "drop trap" we got him this morning and he is now neutered... Hooray!

Villa Bee Fly/Banded Bee Fly (Villa sp. (family Bombyliidae)
Not the first Bee Fly I have photographed but the first of this particular sub species, and the first I have seen in our garden in the 17 years we have been here.

Fiddler crabs sure look intimidating with their big claws, but if you are fast enough they are easy enough to capture.
I visited the Canadian Raptor Conservancy (CRC) for the 3rd time last weekend and got to practice shooting birds in flight (something I have never mastered before)! Such a treat to visit these well kept raptors.

Red Wattlebird (Anthochaera carunculata)
A small flock of Wattlebirds were launching out of a Gum Tree to catch passing insects. I am pleased to have got the shot as they are very quick as they hunt. And it allowed me to assess how my shoulder is working,

He's back! This picture stood out when I noticed the water droplet stream coming from the heron's beak. He had some strong head motion going on there as he tried to capture breakfast.

Was at Satay By The Bay looking for the common kingfisher. It showed and manage to take 4 still shoots. I was after flight shots of the Common King. Never mind another day perhaps.
Instead I managed to get two nice shoots of the Heron in flight with fish in this mouth. I am not complaining!
