Got a bit carried away with this weeks theme of water.
I have done the classic water drop photoshoot before but always wanted to go back to it to try and improve my technique....
This little collection were all taken in 45 minutes before my batteries on my flash ran out for the second time.
Off camera flash fired at full power by radio trigger.

Late on a winter afternoon, a southbound Union Pacific stack train waits for a signal at the Columbia River Drawbridge. The ability to get up close and personal with Amtrak, BNSF and UP trains is a big factor in the railfan appeal of the passenger depot in Vancouver, Washington.
The really unreal blue of the Shyok river...seen to be believed. I have seen it a muddy brown in my earlier visits in summer, but it was exceptional this time.
Got a huge surprise when this wild turkey landed in my garden! I heard a loud flapping of wings & seconds later this gorgeous, wild turkey arrives! It stayed around long enough for me to take a few photos of it before it flew away! Lucky for him it wasn't Thanksgiving, lol =)
On Friday, I had not long got into work when Phill rang to say that Kaiser was very distressed and had huge amounts of drool coming out of his mouth. When I got home he had run outside onto the lean to roof and there was lots of drool still coming out of his mouth. It took an age to coax him down but eventually I managed. I rang the vet and got an emergency appointment, but not until 11.00am. The drooling had subsided a little but he was still very distressed. The vet check him out and said that although his teeth were in good shape, he flinched when she touched one of them. She said that he might have banged it against something (perhaps Pixie thumped him!) Or it could have been he ate something that was mildly corrosive. He was given a painkilling injection and some Loxicom which he absolutely loves. He seems totally recovered now and we are keeping an eye on him for any changes. The vet advised to take him back in a week or two if nothing changes and they will check him out again. It gave us such a fright. I have had Kaiser from 6 weeks old. He is now 13 and has never been ill. Oh his weight is back up to 7 kilos *sigh*
A re-visit from our plum stealing mule deer. Apparently he's got an itch that just won't quit and this vegetation variety offers the best relief. The eyes say it all 'Oh yes yes yes".
After trying for ten years and not successful in trapping this feral tomcat, homeowners called me to help. Thanks to my trusty "drop trap" we got him this morning and he is now neutered... Hooray!

In the trees by the Holme Observatory this Goldfinch was happily feeding on pine seeds sheltered from the winds.
Got up early to hike out to an overlook before sunrise. There were no clouds to speak of but the golden morning light across the long grass on the hillside was quite nice.

Not the first Bee Fly I have photographed but the first of this particular sub species, and the first I have seen in our garden in the 17 years we have been here.

I visited the Canadian Raptor Conservancy (CRC) for the 3rd time last weekend and got to practice shooting birds in flight (something I have never mastered before)! Such a treat to visit these well kept raptors.

A small flock of Wattlebirds were launching out of a Gum Tree to catch passing insects. I am pleased to have got the shot as they are very quick as they hunt. And it allowed me to assess how my shoulder is working,

He's back! This picture stood out when I noticed the water droplet stream coming from the heron's beak. He had some strong head motion going on there as he tried to capture breakfast.

Last autumn when Beverley and Colin were staying I got them to choose some tulip collections to remind me of their visit. They're flowering now and make a. great show of colour and look beautiful, especially when cut in vases. Gentle on my mind is by Billy Bragg and Joe Henry. Another track that Beverley introduced me to . Flickr has introduced me to so many wonderful friends. Happy Easter everyone.
Was at Satay By The Bay looking for the common kingfisher. It showed and manage to take 4 still shoots. I was after flight shots of the Common King. Never mind another day perhaps.
Instead I managed to get two nice shoots of the Heron in flight with fish in this mouth. I am not complaining!
