We said goodbye to Dad today. Here he is summer 2008, back when he was still in better health. He was suffering from early stage congestive heart failure and diabetes.

Back in March 2021 he, my mother and aunt, all contracted Covid19. They all survived, barely. My father took it the hardest and his slow decline picked up speed.

He suffered from long term Covid effects and died peacefully in his sleep at the beginning of November.

I had forgotten about these photos until I found them again when I was searching for photos for his memorial service.

I don't remember what kind of film this was but I'm glad I took this shot many years ago.

Why do we take photos? Sentimentality I suppose, to keep a record of an interaction. Good or bad.

Just get out there and take photos of your loved ones, you'll never know when it will be the last time. Love is always a renewable resource but time is not.

Goodbye Germany, Münster and my church ..

Tomorrow I will move back to France.

The weather seems to match my mood.

Goodbye Hans Beck...

Thank you for all those little plastic guys that filled our childhood with many hours of happiness.

Rest in peace.

On thursday, a very bad storm fell on Mérida, and today, after 24 hours of being absent, we found our dear Arwen dead on the side of the road. Probably she was killed by some stray dogs. Now she's back to Mother Earth.

We already miss you, beautiful cat!

The sky is crying, so do we

You know we will miss the AEM-7s once the ACS-64s take over. With the opening of the West Haven station, some new angles are available to play with. Should be fun next summer with the P&W CT-2 runs.

I didn't take this picture. It was forwarded to me in an email. I have two relatives in the picture. This is part of what I call the 'Tuesday Morning Coffee Club'.

The California Quail is the state bird, so I thought this was a fitting goodbye photo. I'm moving back to the Midwest and will miss this area. But hopefully I'll find new areas to explore as time allows. I'll have to enjoy California from afar thru my very talented Flickr buddies. Wish you all the best!

Goodbye, cruel world

I'm leaving you today

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

Goodbye, all you people

There's nothing you can say

To make me change my mind

Goodbye

Goodbye, cruel world - Pink Floyd

Finally sold my old camera.... this friend of mine went with me to every trip I had... to 5000 meters above sea level, to the southest city of world, to the andes, to the beach, to the caribbean sea, to volcanoes and lakes.

There's time for everything... Now is time to make the next step... Now is time to let her go...

Its five o'clock this morning, and the sun is on the rise

Theres frosting on the window pane, and sorrow in your eyes

The stars are fading quietly, the night is nearly gone

And so you turn away from me, and tears begin to come

And its goodbye again, Im sorry to be leavin you

Goodbye again, as if you didnt know

Its goodbye again, and I wish you could tell me

Why do we always fight when I have to go

And if your hours are empty now, who am I to blame

You think if I were always here, our love would be the same

As it is the time we have, is worth the time alone

And lying by your side, the greatest peace Ive ever known

But its goodbye again, Im sorry to be leavin you

Goodbye again, as if you didnt know

Its goodbye again, and I wish you could tell me

Why do we always fight when I have to go

I already introduced this somewhere in my photostream: Remembering situations, happenings and circumstances when you arrive at (or come back to) certain places. To some of them we probably have to say goodbye forever, while others are rejoicing with anticipation for recurring events.

After three and a half years working at Danish Broadcasting I had my last day yesterday. Speeches and gifts and hugs and handshakes, not to mention a melancholy wander around the complex, already missing the architecture and the light and the design.

See the DR Byen set.

You told me, I see you rise

But, it always falls

I see you come, I see you go

You say, "All things pass, into the night"

And I say, "Oh no sir, I must say, you're wrong

I must disagree, oh no sir, I must say, you're wrong"

Won't you listen to me

You told me, I've seen it all before

I've been there

I've seen my hopes and dreams a-lying on the ground

I've seen the sky just begin to fall

And you say, "All things pass, into the night"

And I say, "Oh no sir, I must say. you're wrong

I must disagree, oh no sir, I must say. you're wrong"

Won't you listen to me?

Goodbye horses

I'm lying over you

Goodbye horses

I'm lying over you

Goodbye horses

I'm lying over you

Goodbye horses

I'm lying, lying, lying over you

DPS Weekly Assignment ~ Odd Numbers ~ Three Very Sad Little Girls

Scavenger Hunt 101 #99 - A Child Crying (well, actually three children crying!)

My daughter said goodbye to her two dearest friends today as they moved away to the other end of the country. She has spent many happy years with these two little girls who lived next door to us and they have been inseparable, playing together every spare minute. They are broken hearted today. We went to the station to wave them off and there was a very tearful farewell. This shot was taken through the train window as Lauryn's friends pulled out of the station and my daughter's waving hand is reflected in the glass. Oh my, she loved these little girls like they were her sisters.

Finally throwing these shoes away. They have taken me over 14,000ft, to hidden hot springs in the sky, through long runs down the beach, and leaping over rocks crashing with surf. They even strode me confidently about Burning Man for years. But the soles are worn through, the laces busted and repaired many times, and they have developed the funk of a thousand years. Goodbye, shoes!

Rest in peace dad, you suffered long and now it is time to lay it down. Don't say it, I know... you're not sleeping, you're just resting your eyes.

Thank you for everything you taught me, and thank you for working three jobs at a time so the seven of us could eat dinner every night, and there are a hundred kids from Hungry Hill who thank you for getting up at 4:00 in the morning and driving street to street to pick them all up and take us to hockey practice in the dark and icy winter mornings. Those were great days.

Of all the wonderful memories you've given me, the one that means the most to me is you grabbing the transistor radio every night after dinner in the summer, and sitting with me at the picnic table in the yard and the two of us listening to our beloved Red Sox together. I still listen to baseball on the radio to this day dad, and every time I do I think of you.

Maybe when I see you next, you'll finally tell me how you got the nickname Benny.

I love you!!

"...Mock & Toof are two London based producers, Duncan Stump (Mock) and Nick Woolfson (Toof), who record for Tiny Sticks (UK), Mule Musiq (Japan) & DFA Records. They were initially noticed with their remix for The Juan Maclean[2], which was quickly followed up by their re-edit of Madonna's Lycra Virgin. Following more remixes for the likes of Hot Chip, The Scissor Sisters & Maps, Mock & Toof strengthened their position with widely acclaimed singles for Tiny Sticks (Black Jub), Mule Musiq (Zomby) & Rvng Intl (Digits)..."

Holding the hand of my father on his deathbed at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina on Saturday, November 29, 2008.

He was on palliative care, only oxygen and pain medication to keep him comfortable. Except for a brief moment of recognition later that Saturday, he was already gone. His heart stopped at 5:15am this morning, December 1, 2008, after prolonged illness.

I was thinking of a Pietà when I took this shot. It turned out pretty nice but I think I'd like to revisit this idea sometime in the future >:3

Josephine enjoyed it so much being a part of the photo shooting last time, we both were happy to repeat that ; ).

This blouse is her fave piece from the new line and it looks just lovely on her, doesn't it?

My dearest flickr friends,

The summer finally is ending, so I thought “Why not celebrate the end of summer and the start of autumn with a lovely fashion collection” ; )?

This is “Goodbye Summer”, a cute little fun collection of new boho style pieces and some basics. As always, I try to create fashions that are highly versatile and easy to combine.

The new line is picture intense, so I’d recommend to go to my “Goodbye Summer” album and there you’ll find all new designs. My etsy shop has been updated already!

May your days be sunny and bright and the new season bring us all lots of beautiful memorable moments…

Dearest greetings,

Nina*

Harbin, China's northeast region

Ice Lantarn Festival

Having the most bitterly cold winters among major Chinese cities, Harbin is referred to as the Ice City (Chinese: 冰城) for its well-known winter tourism and recreations. Harbin is notable for its beautiful ice sculptures in winter and its Russian legacy, and it still plays an important part in Sino-Russian trade today. In the 1920s, the city was considered China's fashion capital since new designs from Paris and Moscow reached there first before arriving in Shanghai. On 22 June 2010, Harbin was appointed a UNESCO "City of Music" as part of the Creative Cities Network

Being the famous "Ice City" in northeastern China, Harbin attracts visitors from home and abroad by the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival it helds each year. It is a happy carnival which provides visitors a whole new world of ice and snow. The festival usually begins from January and last for over one month.
