There is a lot of advice to be found regarding photography during the autumn season, but the primary visual difference of fall is the color of the foliage and to capture that color, one must GO OUTSIDE.

While that tip might sound simple, it is easy to sit in front of a computer or TV instead of making the effort to go out. You can DVR the football game to be watched later. Darkness comes earlier in the fall, so you have some time to catch up on the game or what is going on in the photography world after the light is gone. You can catch up on your post-processing backlog in the winter (what I'm telling myself).

A great fall location is Ricketts Glen State Park, near Benton, PA. With 22 named waterfalls in this park, along with many other photogenic woods and stream scenes, it is not hard to find wall-grade compositions. Located just below Waters Meet on the Falls Trails, Harrison Wright Falls, shown here, is one of my favorites.

Don't let the weather keep you inside. My favorite weather condition for shooting in RGSP is a light rain or immediately after any rain. The rain provides more flow in the stream, but it serves a couple of other important purposes. It keeps the other hikers and less-serious photographers out of the image (they stay home). It also makes everything in the scene wet, giving the surroundings a deep, rich color when photographed through a circular polarizer filters.

You will not capture images like this one indoors. Get out and find the colorful fall foliage. Get some exercise and breathe in the crisp air while doing so. Your body and mind will be rewarded along with your portfolio.

Stunning Sunrise over Durdle Door, Dorset by melvin nicholson

7.10am on a gorgeous morning at Durdle Door mid-September this year and having parked up by the roadside and walked the twenty-five minute walk down to this iconic viewpoint, I set up and waited for the magic to happen.

I see so many iconic scenes on social media that I have yet to visit that when I eventually do get the opportunity to stand there with the camera on a morning like I experienced here, I am reminded that I have the best job in the world. On this particular morning, I was alone for a few minutes until a couple of other photographers joined me to shoot Bat's Head behind me.

For those of you who have yet to visit Durdle Door, the sound of the water as it washes over the pebbles sounds so strange. There's a natural pebble shelf that has been formed over the years and the water rushes up to the top of it before rushing back down leaving the pebbles to clatter against each other.

A tilted lens

1:1 macro shot of a detail of my workhorse lens for architecture, the 19mm f/4 tilt-shift. I never realized the relief was so high... nor so dirty! It’s a shame, as I clean the lens thoroughly (or so did I think) after every shooting...

Composite photograph made up of 70 focus-stacked exposures, set using the built-in function on the Nikon Z7. Stack processed with Helicon Focus, Method C.

Shot for my Macro Mondays group, “Numbers and Letters” theme.

Strobist and technical: one Phottix Pro Indra500 monolight on a Profoto light stand in Rembrandt position to camera left, 1 meter from subject and 0.5 meter above it, firing at full power through a Phottix Pro 110–cm Luna octabox with double diffuser; white card reflector to camera right.

Strobe set and triggered via Phottix Pro Odin II radio controller on the Nikon Z7 hot shoe, manual mode. Sekonic L–858D light meter used to balance light sources. Gitzo GT3543XLS tripod with Arca–Swiss Cube C1 geared head. Nikon Z7 camera body, Micro–Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 S macro lens.
