The amazing and iconic Kirkjufellfoss waterfall and the peak of Kirkjufell rising beyond. Yes it is famous and crowded, but it is so for a reason.....it is an amazing sight!

I had made the Snaefellsnes Peninsula my first stop on my trip and spent 3 nights in the area. The was my first stop and I photographed it in the rain. It was raining enough that I had to wipe off the lens between each shot.

I liked the moody quality of this and it became a favorite shot. I was lucky enough to get to photograph the aurora here the next day and if you go you might still hear echos of how many times I said "wow!" there.

Solid silver and ivory fork coming from a set made in the 1850s. Always was in my Mom’s side of the family in Brittany. The fork is quite small, it is a dessert thing, or possibly used for small foodstuffs like snails or oysters.

Smoked trout with basil.

Single exposure with the Micro–Nikkor 85mm f/2.8 tilt–shift macro lens, tilted alongside the axis of the fork for increased depth of field.

Scale Force just happens to be my favourite waterfall in the Lake District. Partly because it is one of the quite incredible location it lies in (a narrow, 120ft deep, moss covered rock gorge an hour's walk up a large fell alongside Crummock Water) but also because it feels as though it has never been discovered by humans.

The green moss that lines the walls of the gorge is so vibrant that people will think that I have increased the saturation in Photoshop too much and the redness of the water actually does exist. It really is an absolutely special place of mine.

Behind the Scenes Info:

One of the challenges you will find shooting a 120ft waterfall like Scale Force is that it is actually three waterfalls and to climb up the incredibly slippery and near-vertical rock walls in order to reach the top one is dangerous and no mean feat.

The spray from the main waterfall as it drifts towards you and your camera means that it's a constant battle to keep the lens and filters dry. But if you preserve, this image is what you are likely to end up with.

I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did taking it.

The Saint–Martin basilica in Aime by Arsène Lupin

I recently had the opportunity to organize a photo shoot of the early Romanesque basilica of Aime, in the French Alps. Because of COVID, the church was closed to the public (it is not used for religious purposes anymore, only as a space for exhibitions), and that made things easier for photography.

Located on the Roman road between Milan and Vienne via the Great Saint Bernard Pass, the church was built as part of a priory during the so–called “first Romanesque age”, around Year 1000, over an earlier and much smaller church built during the 5th or 6th century. Remains of that church can still be seen, as future uploads will show over the next few days.

This basilica is an amazing and gorgeous piece, not only because it is very old, but also because it has been kept over the centuries in a very authentic and realistic condition, as you can see from photos of the inside.

The main apse and its two side apsidioles are slightly off–center and exhibit obvious signs of Lombard influence. Architects, masons and assorted stone cutters would regularly cross the Alps from Italy into France, and it is through their influence that the “Lombard” style spread into France during the 11th century.

Been having a hard time getting photos to up-load lately.

Some of you might recognise this area as I have shot many sunsets from here. Very close by and just across the river.

Shot with a D300 and 17-55 2.8 Nikkor lens. And of course a CF Gitzo tri-pod..

My friend the water buffalo man is camped about 500 meters to my right so I always stop by when over here.........;-)

Just about everyone who visits Zion National Park takes this shot in one way or another. While I and everyone would love to get an amazing shot of a thunderstorm or a rainbow at sunset, even the simple evening light makes this place look wonderful. This is a 62-second exposure with a B+W 3.0 (1000x) neutral-density filter on a Gitzo 3531 tripod. Nikon D810 with Zeiss Milvus 21/2.8 lens.
