Caterpillar portrait (Sabah, Borneo)

A high number on the ISO and a low number on the shutter, along with an early number on the clock and this is what you get. The actual scene was significantly darker than the camera captured, with the twilight color appearing like a sunrise as a Great Egret heads downstream for an early breakfast date on Armand Bayou near my put-in point at Bay Area Park.

Why did the caterpillar cross the trail?

... So that I can take a picture of it.

Flickr Lounge - Weekly Theme (Week 24) ~ Texture. Fuzzy Flowers

I say "Fuzzy" because of the photo quality, not because of the fox himself.

For reference, this shot was taken in the very late afternoon or early evening, so not the best ISO conditions. And this shot is 600mm at 1.6x crop factor (R7), plus with a 1.4x teleconverter. Hence the official focal length is 840mm.

So, I have used this 1.4x teleconverter very, very sparingly. It doesn't work with Auto focus on my 6D; it does Autofocus on the R7. But... the shot is not exactly sharp! ISO conditions don't help here.

But... this is the first time that I have gotten a shot of a fox here. We have photos are all kinds of animals here, but this is the first fox.

like this picture....that's how I've been feeling - the kid germ pool has begun, and I'm going on bug #3 in 2 months! wtf! ?^*$(#**%)#$*(@#!!!!

Still, the fabulous Jave had tagged me a while back, so I thought I'd play : )

I don't have the energy to tag anyone else, so if you want to play, please do. You know who you are ;-)

here's the quiz. Which of the following is NOT true?

1. I know all the words to Rappers Delight.

2. I waited til I was almost in my 40s to start a family.

3. My favorite cocktail is Vernors and Vodka.

4. I make signs for a living.

5. When I was a kid, I wrote Michael Jackson letters hoping he would want to meet and marry me. I was sure he would!

6. Cat and I have been BFFs for 23 years.

7. My Dad is a jazz pianist.

Ok, that's all I got, Happy Thursday! : )

Yes, I know it's way out of focus, but to achieve this shot I had to very carefully lift some boards and netting to one side. Then I had to squeeze my camera between some marsh marigold stalks which stubbornly remained in focus in preference to the frog. Clearly, Froggy thought my efforts were all rather amusing. Fuzzy focus or not, for me that smile was just irresistible.

Lime Tree Parachute and Seeds

A macro view of a calculator keypad depicting fuzzy math and murky numbers. The frame represents a span of one-inch.

This was one of the most boring-looking calculators I have ever seen in my entire life; I bought it for $1 at a Dollar Tree store. And when I put it under the lens it looked even worse. In fact, the closer I looked, the less photogenic it got. I have a theory that every subject has magic, it just needs to be revealed. Well, it took me more than 200 shots, with varying lenses and light configurations, to "reveal" this scene that you see here. I hope you like it...

Strobist info:

The scene was illuminated by one Nikon SB900 speedlight with snoot attached, placed 11- o'clock, slightly above camera level, and fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄32 power.

The SB900 was triggered by two PocketWizard Plus X triggers.

Lens: Helios 44M-4 f2/58mm with 20mm extension tube attached. (The aperture was f2, rather than the f3.5 that is listed in the EXIF).

Here is the Fuzzy Bud after it has started to open. I believe that this is from the female Poplar tree.

This is for the group Macro Monday's and this week the theme is "Pick Two".

You had to pick an item off of two list. For List A: I chose "Fuzzy" and for List B: I chose "Toy".

With two 1 year old kitties I have plenty of fuzzy toys around the house. These are little fuzzy "worms" that attach to a wand. And of course I ordered them from Chewy.com. Noah and Elijah prefer to play with these off of the wand.

Ever get an unexpected case of the warm fuzzies? Feels good, 'ya know?

;)

A fuzzy dupe that makes you wish you had a time machine...circa mid 1970s. Definitely taken from the Holiday Inn... no photographer listed, JL Sessa collection.
