Summit Lake, elevation 12,865' on the Mt. Evans Scenic Byway

Prairie Land, Rocky Mountain Front Range, Colorado

The subalpine forest at Emerald Lake tapers to a few dense stands, revealing Flattop Mountain and Hallett Peak ahead.

At this elevation, the winds and heavy snowfall make survivability for most plant and animal life challenging.

As seen here, even in June the temperatures remain cold enough to keep ice floating on about 1/6th of the lake.

Mt. Evan Scenic Byway, highest paved road in North America going up to 14,000'+

Fountain Creek Regional Park

Here's a fresh from the garden bolt to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July holiday! ;-)))

Image Notes: mere moments after this was taken we were inundated with one heck of a hail storm. This was taken in the same vicinity as my previous post with a slightly different angle and after the sunset light had ended. This bolt was really close!
