But the destination was the fire lookout on the summit of Moose Mountain - far right. This was taken from the false summit.

Mount Evans is a 14,271 foot (4,350 m) peak in Clear Creek County, Colorado. It dominates the Denver area skyline and can be seen from over 100 miles (160 km) away. Echo Lake is a clear alpine lake which sits at the base of the mountain. It was formed by glaciers about 10,000 years ago. It is 40 miles from Denver but is part of Denver's unique mountain park system.
The area was designated as a historic site by the American Physical Society in 2017, commemorating the many cosmic-ray physics experiments conducted on the mountain between 1935 and 1960.

This landscape was taken from Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat, near Boulder Colorado. It is a reclaimed gravel/sand pit resulting in a series of adjacent small lakes, with their banks forested and replanted with native species.
Here, we see the Front Range, foothills, and the snow-capped Rocky Mountains.
Walden Ponds was named for Walden "Wally" Toevs, a Boulder County Commissioner from 1972 to 1980, who was instrumental behind the development of this area. But I don't think that Henry David Thoreau would mind the naming of this wonderful reclaimed natural area : )

Garden of the Gods is a public park in Colorado Springs, Colorado, US. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1971. The red rock formations were created millions of years ago during a geological upheaval along a natural fault line. The outstanding geologic features of the park are the ancient sedimentary beds of deep-red, pink and white sandstones, conglomerates and limestone that were deposited horizontally, but have now been tilted vertically and faulted into "fins" by the immense forces caused by the uplift of the Rocky Mountains and the Pikes Peak massif.

This perennial native wildflower, Prickly Poppy, has petals that "flop around" in the breeze. They were seen in several natural areas (i.e. not infested with subdivisions of houses, strip malls, etc) around Denver, Colorado
Their name "Prickly Poppy" refers to its stems and leaves that resemble those of a thistle. In fact, if the flowers were not present, they would be easily mistaken for a thistle.

This picture was taken at Red Rocks Park, into the sun, with a thick haze in the background.
The railing in the lower left corner gives scale to the picture. Morrison is the city in the midfield valley; and the Denver skyline is in the blue haze of the background, about 9-10 miles away ("as the crow flies") .

The path starts out in the right direction, but it would be a long walk to the Rocky Mountains hahaha. First you would pass the dark peaks in the background, "The Front Range", then the snow-capped peaks behind are about 65 miles from this walkway.
Pikes Peak is the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, in North America. The ultra-prominent 14,115-foot (4,302.31 m) "fourteener" is located in Pike National Forest, 12.0 miles (19.3 km) west of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The mountain is named in honor of American explorer Zebulon Pike, who was unable to reach the summit. The summit is higher than any point in the United States east of its longitude. The red rock formations are part of Garden of the Gods, a public park located in Colorado Springs. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1971.

Mexican Hat (Ratibida columnifera), is so-named because it is supposedly reminiscent of sombreros in Mexican festivals. It's also called Prairie Coneflower in some guidebooks.
This member of the aster family is a native species found along the Eastern base of the Rocky Mountains, and south to Mexico. This photo was taken at water's edge of Berkeley Lake, a small lake at the northern edge of Denver, Colorado.
Helen Hunt Falls is a scenic 35 foot waterfall located west of Colorado Springs in North Cheyenne Cañon Park. The falls can be seen from the parking lot or you can walk up the stone steps to the bridge over Cheyenne Creek for a great view of the canyon. The falls are named in honor of Helen Maria Hunt Jackson (1830 – 1885), a United States poet and writer who became an activist on behalf of improved treatment of Native Americans by the U.S. government.
