I've always loved creating nature-themed spaces inspired by real-life places I’ve visited. Capturing stunning landscapes in SL has been both a source of inspiration and a place of refuge for me. This Saturday (February 8, 2025) at 12 NN SLT, some of my landscape photos will be unveiled at the Center for the Arts. The exhibition is called "Liminal." The idea behind the theme means capturing spaces that exist between worlds, transitions, or thresholds. I’d love for you to join me there!

The German name ‚HAUS-Rotschwanz‘ (= House-Redstart) is fitting in the truest sense of the word, as this bird seems to take a liking to our house. In summer, I enjoyed watching it fluttering around on the terrace in the evening, its typical funny ducking before it made itself comfortable under the roof by the gutter at dusk for its night's rest.

Variegated Flutterer (Rhyothemis variegata variegata) :- Very common dragonfly found throughout the year usually as large groups near weedy tanks, streams, paddy fields and marsh areas of low country. (biodiversityofsrilanka.blogspot.com)

Fennel plant and a visitor. Brennan has identified this amazing acrobatic little bird as a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, which is a new one for me. The mature male has the Ruby head, not this one.

Golden Grass Carpet Moth (Anachloris subochraria)

One of two new moths I spotted yesterday, I still need to ID the other.

I am way behind today, Flickr was down for a couple of hours earlier and I have meetings at the school. The STEM team, led by our Daniel took first place in the regional event last week and we are now, very quickly, organising a trip to Tasmania next month for the national finals. We, and the school, are very proud of Daniel and his team.

Happy Wing Wednesday!

Fluttering wing beats singing out in the spring, erupting in a continuous hum can mean only one thing, the hummingbirds have returned. Soon they will be flicking back and forth, standing guard over their favorite field of flowers, their best feeders, their hidden tea cup sized nests. Fast, furious, and fabulous. The royal guards of the avian world. This is one of my first visitors this year, small fast, and a little skittish, but happy all the same the strange giant remembered to put out the food they need to survive. This one has been working diligently to empty the bottle as soon as it arrived.

Happy Macro Monday!

Thanks for all your faves and comments everyone!

I really appreciate them!

Flag fluttering at Lynch shelter.

Zosterops lateralis. Reservoir. Out the back with a coffee and there's a bit of flutter in the fig tree. A pair were zipping about with a peck here and a peck there. Despite enough food to last them all day, they had appointments to keep.

It's been a while since I was able to get so close (approx. 20 m) to a hunting Black-shouldered Kite.
