...pitter-patter and promises...

Taken at Whipsnade in the Butterfly enclosure

Rhyothemis graphiptera

This little butterfly wouldn't stop fluttering its wings for even a second. But I was still able to catch this pic of it in my garden.

favorite part of the year is here...sitting on the portal and watching the hummers. Tomorrow is a travel day.

I've always loved creating nature-themed spaces inspired by real-life places I’ve visited. Capturing stunning landscapes in SL has been both a source of inspiration and a place of refuge for me. This Saturday (February 8, 2025) at 12 NN SLT, some of my landscape photos will be unveiled at the Center for the Arts. The exhibition is called "Liminal." The idea behind the theme means capturing spaces that exist between worlds, transitions, or thresholds. I’d love for you to join me there!

Variegated Flutterer (Rhyothemis variegata variegata) :- Very common dragonfly found throughout the year usually as large groups near weedy tanks, streams, paddy fields and marsh areas of low country. (biodiversityofsrilanka.blogspot.com)

Fennel plant and a visitor. Brennan has identified this amazing acrobatic little bird as a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, which is a new one for me. The mature male has the Ruby head, not this one.

Golden Grass Carpet Moth (Anachloris subochraria)

One of two new moths I spotted yesterday, I still need to ID the other.

I am way behind today, Flickr was down for a couple of hours earlier and I have meetings at the school. The STEM team, led by our Daniel took first place in the regional event last week and we are now, very quickly, organising a trip to Tasmania next month for the national finals. We, and the school, are very proud of Daniel and his team.

Happy Wing Wednesday!

Fluttering wing beats singing out in the spring, erupting in a continuous hum can mean only one thing, the hummingbirds have returned. Soon they will be flicking back and forth, standing guard over their favorite field of flowers, their best feeders, their hidden tea cup sized nests. Fast, furious, and fabulous. The royal guards of the avian world. This is one of my first visitors this year, small fast, and a little skittish, but happy all the same the strange giant remembered to put out the food they need to survive. This one has been working diligently to empty the bottle as soon as it arrived.

I love frogs and butterflies... among other things... this cute little metal statue sits in my sunroom, waiting for the real butterflies to arrive!

The Dragonfly is a beautiful thing to see with its soft transparent colored wings and how it hovers over the water to find a place to mate and lay its eggs..

She was a beauty to shoot (with camera, lol). But, fast and not easy to grab a solid focus. Once in awhile, I lucked out, though. hahaa

I was happy to see this chickadee fly in and start picking at a cattail. It let me photograph it for quite awhile before flying off

Prayer flags at Kunzum La at 4590 m. All vehicles do their ritual circumambulation of this spot before they move onward in their journey. This is also the first spot where I realized the altitude hit me. However, I could not miss this panaromic view of the Bara Sigri Glacier

She was ready to flee at a moments notice as lawn was being mowed. Constantly fluttering her wings and I just got really lucky getting the wings so still. Picture before and after wings are totally out of focus.

For #MacroMondays and this week's theme #Wing

Happy Macro Monday!
