Leaves grow old gracefully, bring such joy in their last lingering days. How vibrant and bright is their final flurry of life.

This little butterfly wouldn't stop fluttering its wings for even a second. But I was still able to catch this pic of it in my garden.

This Yellow-rumped warbler (affectionately known as butter-butt because of the yellow "pat of butter" on its rump) was busy fluttering from branch to branch catching insects.

Took a picture of a pretty Monarch fluttering around a lilac bush.

Morning light on the Bailey Range, Olympic National Park, Washington

Morning rises like wisps of fog from a river valley, called by gentle mountain light. Softly it flutters on the breath of a rainforest breeze, bearing the day to life.

Image captured at Cattana Wetlands, Cairns, Australia

These wildflowers had dozens of Swallowtails fluttering about.

Happy Sliders Sunday

...pitter-patter and promises...

The sudden departure of a goldfinch caused a bit of a flutter.

I really like it when the feathers are fluttering in the breeze as the eagles descend towards the river.

I've always loved creating nature-themed spaces inspired by real-life places I’ve visited. Capturing stunning landscapes in SL has been both a source of inspiration and a place of refuge for me. This Saturday (February 8, 2025) at 12 NN SLT, some of my landscape photos will be unveiled at the Center for the Arts. The exhibition is called "Liminal." The idea behind the theme means capturing spaces that exist between worlds, transitions, or thresholds. I’d love for you to join me there!

floating on pheromones in a mating frenzy. A composite of 8 shots taken in quick succession.

Fluttering wing beats singing out in the spring, erupting in a continuous hum can mean only one thing, the hummingbirds have returned. Soon they will be flicking back and forth, standing guard over their favorite field of flowers, their best feeders, their hidden tea cup sized nests. Fast, furious, and fabulous. The royal guards of the avian world. This is one of my first visitors this year, small fast, and a little skittish, but happy all the same the strange giant remembered to put out the food they need to survive. This one has been working diligently to empty the bottle as soon as it arrived.

Fennel plant and a visitor. Brennan has identified this amazing acrobatic little bird as a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, which is a new one for me. The mature male has the Ruby head, not this one.

Golden Grass Carpet Moth (Anachloris subochraria)

One of two new moths I spotted yesterday, I still need to ID the other.

I am way behind today, Flickr was down for a couple of hours earlier and I have meetings at the school. The STEM team, led by our Daniel took first place in the regional event last week and we are now, very quickly, organising a trip to Tasmania next month for the national finals. We, and the school, are very proud of Daniel and his team.

Happy Wing Wednesday!
