January 2016

My apologies for having been somewhat MIA lately. I have been a bit under the weather both literally and figuratively. Have been fighting a migraine headache off and on for about a week . It seems to have something to do with the fluctuation in temperature and humidity .

Anyway I finally felt like picking up a camera today and this little fellow was there to greet me. The lighting was a bit subdued but I did get at least a bit of feather definition and a tiny catch-light in his eye. And I sort of liked his choice of a perch.

Hope everyone has a pleasant weekend !

Taken on an overcast, but bright day in Goblin Combe woods. I had hoped for a host of spring flowers, but found the forest floor rather bare. Still, the young vibrant leaves made up for it and I decided to opt for a bit of panning (as I did last time I was here in the Winter) to disguise the empty ground a bit and draw more attention to the Spring leaves.

Way back in January, I was experimenting with DoF and this is the first photo that I was proud of.

A veiled flutterer (Rhyothemis notata) found on the floor some days ago. Very likely to have been incapacitated by the cold. It had been raining all morning.

This is my second close encounter with one of the flutterers. It is a rare privilege.

I think it always ugly when someone cries, but i do love the feel of wet eyelashes...... i like that i can flitter them and they are wet ..... I love that when my mascara runs, i look like a ruined charcoal drawing. I love the way my cheeks flush pink and feel red hot. I love the way after i have cried myself breathless my skin is salty from the tears..... Theres lots of things you can love about something that makes you feel pain or despair..... I love the way, now I dont cry instead I think of things that are a chore...... and when that change occurs ..... and the darkness descends the silence sings, i look for beauty, in the humming of innocent butterfly wings. And if there is none to be found i simply flitter my lashes and hold my breath and for a second I am a butterfly vibrating in the chaos of life

Female Cairns Birdwing, and Male beneath her.

The largest butterfly species in Australia.

The fraying edge of the butterfly's wing matches nicely with the slope of the hillside in Mont-St.-Pierre, Quebec.

If you view this large, you can make out the details in his wing feathers. That's why I like it.
