Fluffed Junco

This Junco fluffed up against the cold. Captured next to my birdfeeder. Another example of my "casual" approach to bird photography.

They are all fluffy after getting brushed! I can hardly tell which bum is which!

and Fluff was the cat that sat on the rug

This little custom micro fluff was loosely based off Chewbacca :)

My upstairs neighbour's cat had kittens when they weren't home and the mother killed all but one. This is Fluff, the only surviving kitten a few days after he was born.

Welcome to the fascinating world of insects...

Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) Beaver Trail, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

At first I thought the white fluff falling from the sky, blowing on the wind, and coating the ground was dandelion fluff, that didn't make sense. A friend from Texas told me she thought it was cottonwood, but I didn't think we had cottonwood trees here. Turns out cottonwood is a type of poplar, and this shedding of white fluff is something poplars do. I only vaguely remember it from past years.

This was along the side of the road.

Maybe I should have saved this for worm's eye view Sunday, but I wanted to post it at the same time as the one with the stuff coming from the sky! (see one photo over)

don't let the sunshine fool you- it was bone chilling cold this morning

Masses of white, fluffy cottonwood seeds cling to the vibrant green leaves of a tree canopy. The delicate fibers coat the branches and foliage, creating a soft, snowy appearance during the warm season. This natural phenomenon occurs when the tree releases its seeds to be carried away by the wind.

This fluff is a rare fluff. I've only made this style once before. He's shorter like a runt sized fluff, but wider.

He is about 2.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide.

He's made of a purple faux fur.

His face was hand painted by me using artist quality acrylics and sealed with a matte varnish.

Pocket Fluffs are able to stand on their own. :)

The Pocket Fluff Monsters are made from my original design.

As the only one with opposable thumbs in this pack, I get the fun of being head groomer. Unlike dogs with thick undercoats, poodles shed minimally. Their fur continues to grow and needs to be clipped regularly. There are many different clips and some require lots of care (Continental) and others not as much (Sporting). I keep my boyz in a modified Town & Country which means shaved close on feet, face, base of tail and main body while the chest, legs, ears, top knot and tail are longer. Because I do the grooming myself, I rotate the tasks to keep each weekend's work time to a minimum. This weekend it was legs and chest trims which is a whole mess of scissoring (at least in the winter when I keep it longer for warmth.)

Mercury Fact Seven:

He is stoic. If you notice in the bottom middle toe shot, I "quicked" him when trimming his nails. He never even told me I'd drawn blood. It wasn't until today when I opened the shots that I realized he had bled. Ouch.

I guess being beautiful is painful as well, sorry Merc.

Not sure what this is, but it blew out of all the pine trees at work. What I do know it that once birds discover it, they should be happy, as it's nice and soft
